I love fried sardines, I don't flour or batter them, just pan fry the ones packed in oil after blotting them off a little. Then I like a honey mustard sauce on them.
My dad taught me to eat sardines and saltines when we fished. Love mustard, ketchup, and plain with added salt. Great memories of fishing and sardines 🎉
@@FrugalRVGal funny, When I saw what this video was I was thinking how I have always thought of sardines as "yucky stuff my dad ate". I'm not sure I've changed my mind about that even after all this time. I love most seafood but have never cared for sardines.
I love sardines in olive oil. I decided to try the ones in water - ughhh I couldn't eat one - fortunately my dog still loved them. I had no idea there was such a huge difference. The extra cost for those in olive oil was so worth it
Here is my homemade tartar sauce recipe….very simple, ratio of 2 to 1, Mayo to yellow mustard. No pickles, dill, etc. plain and simple and it enhances any fish recipe! Love it, learned it from my momma!
Wow they cost a $1.14. You must be in CA. They are .75 in KY. I put them juice and all in my Soy flavored Ramen noodles and add oyster sauce too with a little lime juice. Yum!
You want more oil than that. They are delicate and you don’t want to flip them. You want to deep fry. Put them in the pan and apply weight to submerge them to cook.
I made these a few weeks ago made it just like salmon came out so good had one can in water one in oil one in hot sauce mixed them together fried them up and they were so good
My son like sardines. Several years ago my x-hubby and I would get them once in a while and have with ritz?? or similar. Now I can’t say I like them. Maybe try this and give a try. Not got ones but will Shop. 👍
Looked good to me, Jana! But, I grew up in a household where there were always cans of sardines in oil in the cupboard. My dad (from the South) loved them with mustard. Over time I developed a taste for them! Thx for sharing the recipe!! Stay well!! Hi, Sami.
Boy, that was a herculean effort! Trying to bread fish that is already cooked has gotta be hard. What made you decide to try this? I think I would have just used the egg and crumbs to make fish cakes and fried those.
I saw a video and thought do people really do this. I wonder if I would like them better than just out of the can. And I can say that I think I do. LOL
We we're up on the Yorkshire coast for the weekend, no fried sardines but plenty of fish & chips about in Bridlington 😉😆 Hit snow once we got back into Lincolnshire, but was slushing up due to rain. We've changed the tyres to "Comforser" brand all season. MPG has gone up a bit, but feels a lot more grippy in wet & ice 👍
I never ate sardines. You said you still like the fishy taste. Do they taste real fishy? Have you ever watched See Mindy Mom or Mamma Mel’s Kitchen? I enjoy those channels too. Maybe you could use them in a taco?
It tasted real fishy in the beginning but they tamed down or the hot sauce took over. They definitely grew on me as I ate them. I am going to do it again but with a different sardine.

You definitely picked the worst brand sardines to fry beach cliff are always mushy. If you want an affordable one that holds up a but better try the chicken of the Sea ones.

Mash them up and fry them like a salmon patty
I've eaten sardines from the can but never thought to fry them. Looks good.
You should try it sometime. They were pretty good!
My dad taught me to eat sardines and saltines when we fished. Love mustard, ketchup, and plain with added salt. Great memories of fishing and sardines 🎉
My dad ate them as well when fishing. That is so funny! I just never really did.

Me too❤
I love sardines, but have never heard of them fried. Looked super good to me. I am this trying asap. Thanks Jana!
I have some smoked and some kippered sardines in the cupboard to try. Should be fun! Thank you for sharing this with us, Jana. Stay safe and stay warm
I buy 12 cans of Sardines packed in a mustard sauce at a time. I have them as a evening snack on weekends with Triscquites and cheese
Sounds like a great snack!

I will try the ones in olive oil, the spicy ones were pretty good (fried). You might want to try those if you want to eat them.
How did I miss out on this? LOL. I don’t think I’ve ever had sardines but it looked yumalicious frugalicious! 💥
I was just an afternoon experiment. LOL I will do it again and let you taste them. Let's go sardine shopping, you want too?
Dont know about Sammie but my mouth was watering!🤣 I love sardines! Im going to try that.👍✌️
Love sardines! They are a top 100 food
I know they are really good for you, but they are really fishy. I was able to enjoy them fried as I kept sampling them.
Thank you! Got to try several different canned fishes this way!
I am going to do that again and be a little bit more picky on my sardine selection.
Sami raised a paw as a volunteer taste tester. I stocked up on sardines for emergency food. Now I know a few ideas to make them.
I’m so glad you stocked up! Good thing to do!
I eat them occasionally, never thought of frying them, Interesting.
Fired sardines sounds good.
I fry them just like it is with bunch of butter and sop it up with toasted bread. Yummy 🤤
Sounds yummy! Butter would make them really good. I will have to try it.
Here is my homemade tartar sauce recipe….very simple, ratio of 2 to 1, Mayo to yellow mustard. No pickles, dill, etc. plain and simple and it enhances any fish recipe! Love it, learned it from my momma!
Just eat them as they are 😂😂😂😂
I love cooking experiments!
mayo and a little of the juice from the can mixed would be a great dip, maybe add a pich of sugar
You can make anything taste good, Frug!!
I don't know about that! LOL

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a try next time.

I might do that next time. Make a sardine cake out of them.

“How many people have already clicked off this video?” 😂
Sammi Jo gives it two dew claws up!
Try smelts.
They are delish! 🍽️
Smelt is so good! No restaurant serves them! 😢
The date on the can is the best buy date. They don't expire on that date.
Daddy made smelts alot! Hey, do I know you?😊😊😊
@jillwwhere do you buy smelts???iegand4257

Reminds me of fried oysters. Those are good. I would probably love these. I eat loads of Loisianna HS
That looks good

YAY for the fish and chips! Glad you changed the tires and feels more safe.
I get them at dollar tree for $1.25
I doubt you'll ever make them again (LOL), but if you do...skip the egg. Hot sauce is commonly used on fish as a binder for breading before frying.
Good to know. I think I will do it again, but maybe with a high quality sardine.
@@FrugalRVGal Try "Polar" brand (German).
Get regular sardines in olive oil could that work instead of saucy sardines.
Next time try a slotted spoon, maybe. I bet it's good
It'll probably be good with Jiffy Mix and just put your Savory dressings on top if you want to
Good idea!
👋 This is Laverne 🥰 I'm a new subscriber 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Very interesting!😊😊
Looks interesting 😃
Now we eating….
Boneless/Skinless are the best with Red Hot!
I will have to look for them. Thanks
Only you would fry sardines! lol I would let you fry them and give them a taste, with tarter sauce or ranch.
LOL! You never know what I'm gonna cook!

Think I'll try that. Lol n make a cornbread cake from wash n cornmeal lol.
I'm still watching lol
