Today was a lesson in respecting (and placing!!) corner marks and what happens if you don’t. I was sailing along and got totally stalled. Had to start watching your video and about 2 minutes in you mentioned claiming 8s and I just smacked my head.
Good puzzle! Well-solved, thanks. I got stuck and tuned in just before where you found the 4 in box 4. That cracked the puzzle for me.
Took me about an hour today, but got there in the end with only sound logic. A tricky one!
I was stalled after 40 mins. I just could not see the 4 in column 1. I watched your video up to where you found this 4, said a few bad words, and then literally sailed through in a further 6 mins due to extensive markings.
That's mostly how it goes for me too! Including the few bad words! 😂
Yeah I was stuck on the single 4 too, i completely missed the claiming 8s or whatever they were lmao
But like you i'd literally done everything else so the rest of the puzzle basically fell into place
This one was quite tough for me as well. I found the triple in row1 the hard way -- after staring at the puzzle for 20 minutes, I finally saw the quad in r1 that left behind the triple. Because I do so much brute-force pencil-marking, my solve collapsed after that.
Thanks for another great episode.
Tough puzzle!! Fun as it started to come together. But I kept getting stuck after I thought I had it cracked! Thanks.
A HUGE MISS when you didn't see the crossing in b7 to get the claiming 5s already at 04:50. "Five doesn't have a buddy..." :)
I got stuck for a moment after the basic scanning. Few double and triple-valued centermarks later I found that naked single 9 in b1. After that the puzzle collapsed completely. Although I really loved how you found that 567 triple in r1 giving you the naked single 9. It looks like today you took a scenery route.
I agree the 5 was key for me also but it still took 25mins. A tricky puzzle today.
Well, that was a tough one. Had to actually put it away and pick it up the next morning.
That's when I spotted the four in row one, box 1. There was already going to be an 8 in that box in row 8 and either a six or a seven in row two or three, so a nine had to go in row 1, which in turn resulted in a 4-9 pair in box 1.
27:24 to solve. Very tough one today for me.
Wow, when you found that two in box 9, I solved it with the fives restricted in the bottom left box, pointing at the 45 pair in C4. Interesting that there's more than one way to skin the proverbial cat. I used the "hint" though, so your sudoku skills are superior. #bow
Normally I take about twice your solve time. I am still stuck on giving up too early and reverting to pencil marking everything once things stall out. Today, that strategy actually paid off and I finished at 18 minutes.
Honestly fully marking can be pretty fast for puzzles like these, but it's also kinda boring to do. I don't really think the goal of solving puzzles is to do them as fast as possible, but rather to enjoy the experience of the solve. Do you agree?
19:10 but I kept confusing myself by incorrectly restricting cells and going back to have to fix them. I need more coffee lol
I still get stuck on some of these and need your help 🙃
Tricki, missed the 8 in the 89 in the top left corner, thanks rangsk, as allways !
Super
I still don't understand how you concluded that cell six in column one was 4. Coudl you explain some more?
It's just a naked single 4. Through the placed digits in the row/col/box it can't be anything but 4 or 8, but the corner marks we have in the box tell us it can't be 8 (claiming 8s from row 4, if it was an 8 then row 4 would not have anywhere for an 8).
My solve was a horrendous mess of levels of bifurcation, solely because I made a single blunder: I didn't notice that 8 in block 1 was constrained to row 3, so that R1C1 was a 9. (Sigh...)
Hi Rangsk, the NY Times Hard Sodoku are too easy, average solving time for me 15 min. Can u showcase more difficult ones.
I haven't had the time to finish it, but I featured a whole series of difficult classics, which you can find here: ruclips.net/p/PL7B_esJLNuKOpoNtTiSkimR4abXoQsAZz
i could not for the life of me see the triple at 8:00
Took me 11:20 😊
