Nikau & Nivarna's Story

Vanessa is a strong mum and grandmother - she always puts whanau first and treasures her tamariki. She is a warrior and a cancer survivor, who has lost precious loved ones along her way. In 2022 she was diagnosed with cancer again - a pain that too many New Zealanders are far too familiar with.
The WaterBoy has worked with Ness and her kids Nikau and Nivarna for over two years, and we are honoured to be able to tell their story. We know that through sport, they will continue to find joy in life, and create stronger bonds with one another, and with their community.
