- Here's the complete broadcast of a Summer repeat of a pilot movie for the very short-lived TV series "Future Cop" as aired on the ABC Monday Night Movie over WLS Channel 7.
This pilot film - which was first broadcast on May 1st 1976, and served as the basis for a TV show which ran for five episodes, aired between March 5th 1977 and April 30th 1977 - starred Ernest Borgnine (McHale's Navy, Airwolf) as a veteran cop, Officer Joe Cleaver, paired with a robot - er, "bio-synthetic android" named Haven (Michael Shannon). Also co-starred John Amos (for this he left Good Times?).

I absolutely LOVE the intro to the ABC Monday Night Movie. You can tell it was played by a real orchestra and sounds so majestic and lively that it's one of my favorite movie of the week intros. I do know them all by heart. There was something about those beautiful orchestral themes, intros, and outros that made me want to watch the movies more. My childhood was certainly rich because of 70s television. ❤❤❤❤👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Agree! I would grade the movie itself a "C", but with the ABC intros, promos, news breaks, etc , and original commercials, the overall experience was a "B+".
@@olddisneylandtickets The song's title is "Nikki", written by Burt Bacharach. It was named for his daughter Nikki Dickinson who suffered from Asperger's syndrome. Her mother was Angie Dickinson.
I miss those prime-time movie intro's every station had. It made you feel like you were about to watch a blockbuster movie!!...Now, sadly, there isnt any intro's like that any more, that are made to get you into that 'we're gonna watch a movie!!" Mode...
Absolutely agree.. even orchestras playing scores meant for the visuals, instead of modern CD’s releases. the cheapest way of putting in a musical background. Movie business can’t be going so bad that they scrimp on an orchestral benefit .

When you hear that siren blaring, just close your eyes. You could be watching streets of San Francisco, The Rookies, Police Story, Swat or any show produced by Quinn Martin. Oh, the 70's cop shows. Brings me back.

How the heck did I miss this movie? I use to watch the ABC _____ Night Movies almost all the time. Sunday nights usually shown the "Blockbuster Movies."

Look, that's Vivian "Ethel Mertz" Vance of "I Love Lucy" fame hawking Maxwell House Instant Coffee"! I met Vivian Vance in the summer of 1977 at the Cherry County Playhouse in Traverse City Michigan where she was starring in the play "HARVEY" - early one evening I saw Vivian Vance heading toward the playhouse parking lot and she was carrying a huge WHITE STUFFED RABBIT to her Ford Granada. I approached as she was struggling to hold the huge rabbit and get the keys from her purse and I said, "Hello" and I told her that I was a big fan and she smiled and said, "Honey, I'm so tired" and I offered to hold the giant rabbit while she got out her keys and opened the door, took the rabbit from me and smiled at me & said "Come see the show, Honey" in that "Ethel Mertz/Vivian Bagley" kind of way. She was much shorter in person and her hair was "snow white" but she just oozed charisma. I never got to see the show but I did get to exchange a few words with one of the all time greats. And that was the last time anyone ever called me "Honey".

Used to be another channel that had over 200 of abc and nbc movies with commercials. Went private in Nov.

Ernest used to hang out with seemingly random people he didn't necessarily know. I remember a road trip to San Diego from the valley with some acquaintance I met, tripping. The acquaintance said he knew some celebrities, made a call, and next thing I knew we were on our way. So surreal, but I have pictures. I got the feeling they were related, but never asked. I was silent the whole time for all intents. I never did get my head around the whole thing, as I said, so very surreal.
Ernest was driving his luxury motor home around the country and living all over right near until his death not long ago..
Their is a RUclips video were some random people honked at him on the road and he pulled over and showed them around he van.. Showing he marble flooring..

There sure were lots of good shows in the 1970’s. It was fun seeing this with all the original commercials intact,especially the one with Claude Akins in it. He had just finished starting in “Movin On”.

Oh yes! The Friday/Saturday/Sunday night movies were a big thing at our house when I was growing up too. I remember the networks saved the most popular movies for the weekends. Ah the memories...popcorn, pizza and root beer.😊

July 12, 1976 , I can about %85 say exactly where I was , what I was doing, just by looking at the Calendar and TV Guide, have all my 70s Calendar and have June and July TV Guide Detroit News.1976 my father was finishing up the basement with paneling etc and we had moved our 1967 RCA Color from the living room upstairs to the basement in June, we were watching the parade of Tall Ships on the 4th of July and my father was making barbecued spareribs, burgers on the patio and we brought it in the cool basement and set it on the antique Large Wooden Table with the Potato Salad our mother made.
That's great, and a great collection of nostalgia.
We were traveling around that week somewhere on the Eastern Seaboard...
We were at an backyard Italian barbecue. First time I had ever had Italian barbecue chicken.
Right afterwards we loaded up and went to a Bicentennial concert at the Washington Monument.
I saw Dizzy Gillespie perform.
I know that we were in Washington when the Redskins played a pre season game that I watched with the family that we were visiting, and the huge tin can of Charles BBQ potato chips.
It was also the first time that I had ever heard of and saw the legendary John Matuszak play.

The commercial for the '76 Summer Games refreshed my memory.
We weren't on the trip across the country until after the closing ceremony.
So we didn't start our state hopping until August/September.

This reminds me of a show from a few years ago called “Almost Human”. It starred Karl Urban and Michael Ealy. Human cop with robot cop partner. Very good.
There was also another Sci-Fi cop showback in the 90's, it was called Mann and Machine.
The human cop was male & the android cop was female.

Yes, it was amazing the places you could "FLICK YOUR BIC" lighter back then! And for the record, if one of the only things I ever came up with in my entire life was the saying "FLICK YOUR BIC" I could die happy. Someone made bank coming up with that one!
This is such a nostalgic post. As a teen in 70s I fondly remember a simpler time and the shows were wholesome. The intro was Such a great 🎶 musical score 🎼 ABC !

That was when Kentucky Fried Chicken tasted great, not greasy oily stale chicken taste like these days. Dam commercials were better made than any shows we have on television now.
1976 must have been a breakout year for Tony Burton; this pilot, Assault on Precinct 13 and his role in Rocky.

That was when there was great stuff to watch on television , including Commercials, better than our programs we got now, also Kentucky Fried Chicken tasted better back than,all greasy and nasty these days specially for the price they are now .

Borgnine was one of my favorite actors, although I doubt anyone ever said Future Cop is my favorite movie of all time....
Earnest Borgnine would then go on 4 years after this to play an almost identical role again as a partner, but this time a Sergeant, to actor Terrence Hill in the movie "Superfuzz" which hit the theaters in 1980, who instead of being a cop robot like in this tv movie above, was instead a regular cop that came in contact with radioactive material and then acquired super powers, kind of like a superman cop. Well worth the watch if you enjoyed this tv movie and can find it.
In the future, new technology functions perfectly and impresses universally!

Hot Seat replaced the daytime Let's Make a Deal while Family Feud replaced Rhyme and Reason because both Deal & Rhyme ended Friday, July 9th. As far as Rhyme and Reason goes, we all know what happened on the finale and I'm not saying it. 🤣

@@TheRealPynkPanther Since you asked, on the Friday, July 9, 1976 finale of Rhyme and Reason, the set got trashed. The gameplay went on as planned where June Penrod the champion played the bonus rhyme and got $4,000 after getting 2 for 2,000. But Brian Biro (s.i.c.) became the last champion leaving June with a total of $4,250 after 2 matches. In the final bonus round of the series, Terry Carter guessed all three rhyming words that rhyme with "Gipper" where the final champion have to say the bonus rhyme from a movie line from Knute Rockne All American.
After all that said and done, Brian Biro's total was $5,500. At the tail end of Bob Eubanks' speech, the trashing of the set starts as he says goodbye. Some of the poets got help from the staff in destroying various props, busted out the neon lights, tore the carpeting apart, and breaking the podiums where the contestants stand and the poets sit and even knocking down the host's podium.
And no one knows how the finale of the daytime Let's Make a Deal played out, but Monty Hall's farewell speech was very heartfelt, to say the least.

Some time back I bought the DVD for this series which I had not see since first broadcast. I got home and found the case had two of the second disk. So I got my money back since they didn't have another.
Interesting thing about this authors (Harlan Ellison and Ben Bova) of Brillo sued ABC and Studio because they claimed it was based on their story "Brillo". They won.
The second original Cyborg TERMINATOR the first was the Six Million Dollar Man. 1973

Science fiction writers Harlan Ellison and Ben Bova sued Paramount studio claiming it had used an idea pitched by them which was based on their short story "Brillo".
Saw this when it first aired
'Android cops accepted on the street in fifty years'. Made in 1976, & we have now arrived at late 2023. Hence, in a little over two years we'll be there!
Here's a bit of background information. Science fiction writer Harlan Ellison pitched this idea to ABC, with the idea of adapting his short story "Brillo" to the screen. The premise was the same, but ABC said it wasn't interested. When this movie came out, the plagiarism was so obvious, Ellison sued ABC and won a settlement. It's a shame, because I liked this movie when I saw it, and wished ABC had played fairly with Ellison on this matter.
Ellison apparently had a habit of suing everyone for plagarism. Was he that good that everyone stole from him or did he just think he was so good? Maybe some of both.
@@RedSiegfried LOL, a little of both, I think. I've read "Brillo" and in this case I believe he was justified in this case, because it definitely deals with the same subject matter.
Ellison also Sued James Cameron. He said the Terminator was Based on one of his Stories called Soldier. He eventually Won his Lawsuit and was given a Credit on the Movie.
It is based on caves of steel by azamov.
@@dogwalker666 Sir, it is Asimov. Dr. Isaac Asimov, one of the greatest science fiction writers of all time. I've read "Caves of Steel" many times. In an article, the good doctor explained that the people at ABC contacted him, in the hopes him supporting them in the lawsuit, on the grounds that his story was similar to "Brillo." He refused support, explaining that he was certain any similarities in the stories were pure coincidence.

I RECORDED A LOT OF THINGS THAT INTERESTED ME OFF OF T.V. From the late 1980's Thru 2015 onto 300 VHS tapes I still have. I think everything I recorded, other people did also. I don't think I have anything that can't be found on RUclips. One thing that comes to mind though, is. . . .
I had 3 brand new blank VHS tapes ready to record on Sept. 11th 2001. As soon as I heard on my clock radio that a 2nd plane hit the twin towers, I leapt out of bed & popped the 1st of 3 VHS tapes in, & pressed record set on 6 hr mode as I turned the channel to CNN. I stayed home from work that day.
I was afraid to leave the house for 3 days.
I didn't know if there was going to be widespread panic, looting,
toilet paper hoarding,
"Sleeper Cells", "Manchurian Candidates" or if that event was going to "trigger" people that were already "on edge" or what. I just kept recording & flipping channels thru every NEWS station until those 3 tapes were full!
The Spanish channels actually showed people jumping out the windows of the towers to escape the fire before the calapsing started.
I also recorded building #5 calapsing around
5pm. Like a perfect demolition.
(That's the 7 story office building that contained all the files of financial records that wasn't hit by a plane or anything). . . .
(That was weird).
I don't know If any of these tapes will still play after being in a metal storage facility for over 20 years in California weather.

When this was repeated, I was in summer camp in upstate New York, and wouldn't have seen this anyway.
