As an American living in the UK I think it’s funny that when I ask for the time I never get an exact time. It’s always quarter past, half past, ten to, etc. Americans usually give you the exact time whereas brits always seem to round it and don’t mention what hour it is. I know it sounds funny but sometimes I’m busy for hours and don’t know the hour so when my wife says half past I’m like, “half past what?” 😂
You are amazing, I teach Mathematics in English and I always exert effort to speak like a native. I love you very much. Big thanks and love to you from Egypt

hi Anna!your videos are really helpful.can you make other videos on how to make an appointment with GP and how to book a cab and useful phrases when asking someone about their health and problems?
You forgot to teach what "Half eight" means! My Liverpudlian mom used to speak like that and all the American neighbors and friends had no idea what she meant!
Englishmen say: What´s the time? Americans say: What time is it? There´s too much influence of american english throughout the media nowadays! Englishmen say: it is a quarter to ten. Americans say: It´s 10, 45. Englishmen say: it´s half past four. Americans say: it´s four thirty!!!
im looking on your cutie face...and you make me smile....i love all about you....your eyes ....your angelic face...your mouvement...and your gorgeous smile...thanx angel ...you a good teacher
Hi, I have a question suppose someone asked me, how much time will it take? Answer is suppose, one and a half hour. Does this one and a half hour mean 90 mins or half of 1 hour i.e., 30 min?
English Like A Native Thanks a bunch Anna😊 was my bad, I heard u said "do u know what time it is" and "what time is it" I didnt recognize that u used "do" in ur first question😁✌
I'm a Malaysian and I've been learning English for my whole life and now I realized that I totally will lose my mind if I speaking English with British people...
So Americans don’t say half past, etc…? Just the exact time? I had no idea about it until now! Also, 8.34 in UK would be 8.34, not 26 to 9, right? I don’t recall it being so fancy with ‘broken’ minutes.
thanks, you said that we ask about the time in different ways one of them, what time it is? but shouldn't we said *What time is it?* because we are asking??!! thanks again
Do you know why i'm watching this video ? It reminds me when i got ZERO score in english exam because i forgot to changed it to British style. I used american style to read the time 😥
So, if it 4 : 55 am i should say fifty five to four and if it's 4 : 12 am i should say quarter past four? I'm so confused please someone correct me, thank you ❤️
4.55 is said 5 to 5. Generally you round to the nearest five if you don’t need a precise time so would normally be said as just after ten past four. If you need a precise time you would say it as written so either four twelve am or oh four twelve if using 24 hour clock which is common.

The way you present it is absolutely fantastic, so learners could easily follow it.

Hi Anna, It's nineteen past nine. Thanks for this explanation
Thank you now I know how to tell the time in English😇🕐
Lovely, I want to learn
Englishmen say: What´s the time? Americans say: What time is it? There´s too much influence of american english throughout
the media nowadays! Englishmen say: it is a quarter to ten. Americans say: It´s 10, 45. Englishmen say: it´s half past four. Americans say: it´s four thirty!!!
Quater to 10 is 9:45, quater to 11 is 10:45
Oops. You tripped up in your little complaint about there being "too much American influence" 🤣
Also, "half past 4" and 4"30 is equally correct. You just don't like how we Americans speak 🤣
Really I am enjoying watch you, you are awesome 🌹
Great teacher!

Does this one and a half hour mean 90 mins or half of 1 hour i.e., 30 min?

which one is grammatical between "what time is it?" and "what time it is?"
What time is it? - Correct

14:28, it's the twenty eight past two pm, isn't it?
I'm a Malaysian and I've been learning English for my whole life and now I realized that I totally will lose my mind if I speaking English with British people...
do most people in the UK use military time?
I have an online best friend and he is in uk and he always says a non existing time for me as in 10:21 so that's what I'm Here for
So Americans don’t say half past, etc…? Just the exact time? I had no idea about it until now! Also, 8.34 in UK would be 8.34, not 26 to 9, right? I don’t recall it being so fancy with ‘broken’ minutes.

The thing I still don't get is: If people say "It's half eight", is it half past eight or half past seven?
Half past eight
@@EnglishLikeANative Thank you🙏🙏🙏
Well
Pretty Anna!
Is it correct if my friend says half to seven, Ms?
I love you.. really you a graet 😍😍
I had someone tell me to meet them "the back of five" which I took to mean *before* 5pm. They turned up a lot later than I expected... :-(
So what did they actually mean?
AND sometimes people skip the "past" and go "It's half three"
+MarCuseusFX absolutely, in fact I said exactly that to a student just yesterday.
