    Man, your garage area is immaculate! I’m impressed. I’m currently running a We:Boost system on my Tacoma Trd off-road. I love it so far , I routed it to a button /switch next to my left steering wheel side cluster. It’s an great addition to any off road or overland vehicle, especially if you’ll be going into the mountains or Desert areas. Also a Rugged radios 2-way radio system is a must-have 👍

    Could this be installed on the roof of a Travel Trailer? It looks like you could unscrew the knob and lay it flat during hwy travel, and then raise it when stationary. I know weboost has an RV version of this, but I also saw they advertise the Overland version as having their best signal, and it's only $30 more than the RV version. Maybe the Overland version doesn't come with enough cable length that would be needed in a Travel Trailer? Just curious if anyone knows about this idea.

    I know Clay gave a pitch on different Comms, but I would love to hear bout you set up.

    I have the next step down from that one, I use it in my Hiker camper off grid and in my Jeep. Works great other than the phone has to be in a cradle. Wish I would have got this one you put in but I would have been limited to either the trailer or the Jeep.

    Pro-tip: Why drilling the body? Just run the cable down in behind the tail light and route it through the existing grommet. You're welcome!
    Oh and in regards to the internal antenna: Just put it onto the headliner, right in the middle of the vehicle. Best position and stealth.

    • @Tanner_Johnson

      Good idea on the headliner! I wasn’t feeling ambitious enough to route it that far but may tinker with it down the road.

    Hey Tanner, my lift gate started to wear through the antenna wire so watch for that. I ended up running it up the aft pillar (D) and out the shark fin antenna housing. Small hole with a step bit, grommet and weather sealant. The plan is to actually add a dual solar port to the roof for the added light/WeBoost antenna cables. Nice build!!

    I’m glad to see this install, we have been discussing getting one for our own 4Runner. Why did you not mount the emitter antenna in the center console? That seems like it would have been the obvious pick for location to service all occupants?

    • @ExpeditionOverland
      @ExpeditionOverland  Год назад +1

      Inside the center console will create some interference due to having plastic, leather, and arms. We tried to keep it open as possible to reduce loss of signal!

    Can you get a “Y” splitter for the emitter? So you can have one for the cab and one for the camper? Rather than having to buy two systems.

    • @JaredMcLuhan
      @JaredMcLuhan Год назад +2

      While yes, one could do this, I wouldn’t recommend it for a few reasons. First, any additional connectors will attenuate the signal by about 3dB per connector (one male + one female = 6dB of attenuation) Second, by splitting the signal, it cuts the amplification (and in return, the ability to receive a signal from your phone) in half. If one wanted to be particularly thrifty, buy two external antennas so be hard-mounted, but make the amplifier and internal antennas transferrable between a cab and a trailer.

    • @ericschmidt3759
      @ericschmidt3759 Год назад

      @@JaredMcLuhan Thank you. It’s an aluminum slide in truck camper. So the best bet would be to maybe mount it close to the back window of the truck and hope it gets through the aluminum wall, or but two units. I appreciate your input. Thank you.

    Great video and I have done this mod differently with running the cable along the edge of the windshield & securing it with black weather seal. Did you notice any adverse affects of connecting to the switch pros directly? Wished that weboost provided a relay for that alt power source. Do you think hauling cargo cases or a tent above will affect your signal without the antenna extension? I love new Mount with the antenna, nice!

    • @ExpeditionOverland
      @ExpeditionOverland  Год назад

      Thank you! No issues so far. Putting stuff on the roof will affect the way that the antenna can reach, but we have held on to the extension to use in those cases.

    I wouldnt recommend wasting the money for one of these. I have ran 1 on my truck by Weboost for 2 years now and 1 on my house mounted to a flag pole way up high and both are mehh at best. The truck mounted one ive had some luck with but not with making phone calls it only allowed me to text. The phone one i have had zero luck with a have tried 3 different mounting positions and use open signal app to find my nearest tower yet still no luck. Its not worth the 300+ price tag IMO.

    • @Tanner_Johnson
      @Tanner_Johnson Год назад +1

      They help for sure in areas where it’s low signal or it’s just out of reach. It won’t grab signal if it’s miles from any. They are regulated by laws that if it’s more powerful it’s considered a cell tower

      @@Tanner_Johnson worth the price of entry?

    • @JaredMcLuhan
      @JaredMcLuhan Год назад +5

      These work great, with the correct expectation. Signal boosters only amplify the connection between your device and the cell tower so that they transmit and receive better. They *do not* increase the connection throughput between the device and the cell tower. As in, installing one of these doesn’t make your connection speeds faster, they just allow for an improved quality of connection. Further, if there is no signal for the amplifier to boost, there is nothing boosted.
