I'm 67yo and grew up listening to the Sons of the Pioneers singing this. I have to admit Geoff does it so GREAT! The same with 16 Tons and Big John. If anyone out there hasn't checked him out, DO IT NOW!
Thanks, Marian! I love his deep voice too! I've never heard of Sons of Pioneers, just the Rock group that did it. (The name is escaping me at the moment) Although, I can hear it in my head! lol
Since they were around in the late 1950s to mid 1960s I can understand. I grew up on country and they were one of the oldies, along with Hank Williams and Patsy Cline.
My dad was a big Hank Sr. fan. I know all the words to most of his songs, as my dad would come home after a night out (Drunk, OMG) and play Hank on the 8 track, and they would just repeat over and over. I can sing, "My bucket's got a whole in it" to this day! LMAO!
Now I've got that song in my head! Of all the old singers, my favorite was Jim Reeves.
Haha...Didn't Jim Reeves do "Young Love"? That's what popped into my head when you mentioned his name. That was before my time, but I remember his name and seeing at least one album cover.

It is done in a piano lounge setting with Geoff playing piano. His wife Kathy is the one who passed him the note & took him away at the end. It was originally done by the Mills Brothers in 1944 so you may want to familiarize yourself with that one first. Geoff takes it to a whole new level
Loved your reaction. VoicePlay released TWO extraordinary halloween performances this year: The first, In the Hall of the Mountain King, is absolutely hilarious - they honor they original orchestral piece by keeping it that way - a halloween story told without words. The second is Hide and Seek, and spooky. Both have the music you expect from them - lows from Geoff and all of the runs and amazing harmonies from the group. Both are outstanding.
