I never buy into the narrative that a driver would intentionally drive in retirement mode. It's always the team and the car that made the driver look bad. Just look at Alonso, when the car delivers, he can still score podiums in his 40s. And Valtteri is probably at his prime in terms of physical and experiential conditions. The Sauber team has just been a backmarker small team that always screws things up (as Kimi said in a TR message in Hungary 2021).

As soon as he got back to familiar territory in Alpha Tauri, he started being more like his old self again. I mean, were you even awake during the Mexico weekend? But being down 19:2 in the quali duel, with those two wins being Max having issues in Saudi Arabia and Miami where Max didn't set a time... and also, only being in Q3 13 times in total, in one of the most dominant cars the sport has seen in recent history, while someone like Hülkenberg managed Q3 a total of 8 times, or Albon with 7x Q3, and that in WAY inferior machinery, just doesn't speak too well for Perez. He's not a bad driver, but he's also not a good fit for RB. Luckily Max can carry the team on his back, but if RB suddenly gets more competition while Checo continiues to qualify P13 or P17 in this Rocket of a car, then he's just doing harm to them. He'd be better at another team honestly. It's not about being biased, it's about seeing the bigger picture. And that bigger picture is that Danny, while having had a hard time at Mclaren, is still not a bad driver, while Checo, while not being a bad driver, is incompatible with RB. With that being said, Ricciardo is the only logical choice. Lawson is too inexperienced. Norris is really good with the Mclaren, and given the differences between Mclaren and RB, he'd probably also struggle at RB (and with that in mind it's smart for him to not be tempted to go to them). Albon already was with RB but cracked under pressure, and is no longer a part of the RB family. I don't think he'll go back. And Perez, as I've said, just doesn't work. Other drivers have better options than the environment of RB where everyone gets smacked by Max, so I highly doubt it's gonna be anyone else other than Ricciardo, as he seems to be the only one who is actually aiming to get into that second seat, while most other drivers prefer to stay in their current team like Leclerc, Hamilton or Alonso.

But being down 19:2 in the quali duel, with those two wins being Max having issues in Saudi Arabia and Miami where Max didn't set a time... and also, only being in Q3 13 times in total, in one of the most dominant cars the sport has seen in recent history, while someone like Hülkenberg managed Q3 a total of 8 times, or Albon with 7x Q3, and that in WAY inferior machinery, just doesn't speak too well for Perez.
He's not a bad driver, but he's also not a good fit for RB. Luckily Max can carry the team on his back, but if RB suddenly gets more competition while Checo continiues to qualify P13 or P17 in this Rocket of a car, then he's just doing harm to them. He'd be better at another team honestly.
It's not about being biased, it's about seeing the bigger picture. And that bigger picture is that Danny, while having had a hard time at Mclaren, is still not a bad driver, while Checo, while not being a bad driver, is incompatible with RB.
With that being said, Ricciardo is the only logical choice. Lawson is too inexperienced. Norris is really good with the Mclaren, and given the differences between Mclaren and RB, he'd probably also struggle at RB (and with that in mind it's smart for him to not be tempted to go to them). Albon already was with RB but cracked under pressure, and is no longer a part of the RB family. I don't think he'll go back. And Perez, as I've said, just doesn't work. Other drivers have better options than the environment of RB where everyone gets smacked by Max, so I highly doubt it's gonna be anyone else other than Ricciardo, as he seems to be the only one who is actually aiming to get into that second seat, while most other drivers prefer to stay in their current team like Leclerc, Hamilton or Alonso.
