🗻HIKING MOUNT TEIDE, TENERIFE FOR SUNRISE ☀️ - Teide National Park (4K)

  • If you go to Tenerife, one of the main spots you definitely want to go to is the Teide National Park with it's famous volcano Mount Teide.
    Of course, the main attraction is the Mount Teide volcano as it's the third biggest island volcano of the world. But you will also find very beautiful trails around the national park.
    I did that at first and after I knew the Teide National Park a bit better, I decided to hike the volcano over night to see the sunset. Most people use the cable car to go to the summit, but that requires a permit (it's free but limited) and if you want to see the sunrise, you would need to drive up at around 3-4pm and sleep at the Altavista Mountain Refugio. So to do that you would need to get a permit, book the cable car and book the Altavista in advance.
    Way too much planning in my opinion.
    So I kept it easy and went up over night. I started around midnight at Montana Blanca and arrived at the top of Mount Teide with a one hour break at the Altavista Mountain Refugio. So the whole trek took me around 7,5 hours.
    The way up is pretty easy, as it's an actual path. But I strongly recommend to use walking sticks as it makes going up a lot easier. I didn't even had sore muscles after the trek and I'm not trained and my last hike (only 1,5 hours) was around two months ago. It was the hike to Mount Ijen. See my video about the trip here: • 🌋 MOUNT IJEN & MOUNT B...
    Also the break at the Altavista Mountain Refugio was very nice as you can get some coffee, soft drink and snacks there. They also have a kitchen and a water cooker if you want to bring some instant soup with you ;-)
    So the break is very good to warm up from the cold outside. It's actually important to do a break there as there's a lot of cold wind at the summit of Mount Teide. So you don't want to wait there too long for the sunrise.
    When you arrived at the top and see the sunrise, you know that it's worth it. The view is incredible as you are over the clouds and on a not so cloudy day you can see the other canary islands. Even with clouds I was able to see the whole island of Tenerife from the top. Absolutely amazing!
    There is also a phenomenon at the opposite side of the sun as there you can see a shadow from the volcano in the form of a triangle. Mount Teide doesn't actually have the form of a triangle. So that looks a bit like a wonder.
    To go down again, I used the cable car. I didn't buy a ticket in advance for that and it worked fine. When I arrived down I also had to walk three more kilometers as my car was at the starting point at Montana Blanca.
    Altogether it was a very nice and not too hard hike compared to my hike to Mount Agung on Bali one year ago. The only real challenging thing is the cold up there. So be prepared ;-)

    Very nice movie! Are you a professional videographer? Also, did you request a permit to fly your drone there? In Masca for example there were drone prohibition signs everywhere..

    Richtig tolle Aufnahmen, vorallem beim Sonnenaufgang!

    Very nice shots!
    I wonder if you remember which route you took for the first hike. I am going to Tenerife next week and I want to hike a little through the park to find some great landscapes. There are too many routes on the internet and i don't know what to choose. I like the one in your video and i would like to try it.

      Thanks, I don’t remember the route. But it was one of the shorter, 3km routes. Very close to the cable car.

    Thank you. I am going to do the exact same walk when I arrive in Tenerife, straight from the airport to rent a car and drive to mout blanc. Was the refugee open or did you have to get someone to open for you?

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  6 лет назад

      It was closed when I arrived. After around one hour someone opened it. Enjoy the hike 🏔

    Should I dare hiking teide at night as a beginner hiker ?
    Im not afrsid to do it but i know thats its physically tough
    Im planning on going to teneriffe on my own so I won't have anyone with me except for maybe some fellow hikers whom I randomly meet
    I really wanna do it and challenge myself but maybe an experienced hiker would say "don't take a sledgehammer to crack a nut "
    Whats your oppinion

    Nice alternative way! Did you meet the permit control personnel on the way down? I read that to go up without the permit you need to stay at the Altavista refuge overnight and prove it on the way down at the permit control. Just considering whether it's a problem to go up before 9am and meet the control on the way down without staying at the refuge as we leave super early morning. Thanks

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  4 года назад

      No, you don’t need to stay at Altavista. Had no problems going down.

    I'm tempted to buy the Zhiyun Crane Gimbal! but it is so expensive, everything is so expensive. I just bought myself a DJI Spark drone which i am not allowed to open until Christmas :P did your gimbal help you a lot with your footage?

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  6 лет назад +1

      Yes of course, the Zhiyun Crane is amazing. It makes it a lot easier to get smooth shots. Some wouldn't be possible without it. I also use the Zhiyun Rider M with my Hero6. That's also a beast.
      Well, try to make money with it, then it's not an expense anymore ;-)
