11/05/2019 Yaphank Car Fire

Car fire in Yaphank, Tuesday November 5, 2019.
The engine compartment of a GMC Acadia burst into flames while being driven northbound on Yaphank Avenue, between Glover Drive and Suffolk Avenue, at approx. 10:40 a.m. just outside the SCPD Headquarters and the Suffolk Fire Academy.
Numerous SCPD units and the Brookhaven Fire Dept. and Yaphank Fire Dept. responded. Officers from the SCPD were able to hold the fire at bay using two dry-chemical fire extinguishers until fire dept. units arrived.
Yaphank Ave. northbound was closed for the duration. No injuries were reported.
