The carousel was playing The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" cover by Rockabye Baby. They do a lot of lullaby renditions of popular songs.

To think some people called ep 7 filler. The flashback offers great insight into Ellie's psyche:
    A) It shows you why she's scared of ending up alone; she'd been alone for most of her life and then she also lost Riley, and she likely lost more people she cared about along the way.
    B) Ellie had to watch Riley turn while she remained unscathed, and she had to shoot Riley after she turned (was heavily implied in ep 4), that must've truly messed with her mind. And that's where her survivor's guilt originated from, and Tess, Henry and especially Sam's death surely added to that guilt.
    C) It adds to Ellie's motivation to fight for Joel. As Riley says, "We fight. Whether it's two minutes or two days, we fight for every second we get to spend with each other. We don't give that up." She can't lose yet another person she truly cares about, especially when that person was also turning into a father figure for her, and she'd never had a parental figure her whole life

06:39 Yeah, he did watch the movie with Sarah.
Bella Ramsey's performance has been nothing short of exceptional. She absolutely nailed it. Also yeah, subtlety in the game is incredibly nuanced, but the lack of subtlety in this episode ended up elevating the characters and the narrative. Them making David's creepiness and motivations clearer evoke an even more of a visceral reaction from Bella's Ellie.
Tho the show is also subtle with some of the new additions, like for instance, one example in this episode; you can see James being slow to eat his food 'cause he knows it's human meat, whereas David gets a big portion compared to the others. Of course, only a few people in that religious commune knew about it tho, as it was revealed later in the episode.
Ep 8 was phenomenal. Can't wait for the finale! Looking forward to your reaction as well

Ashley giving birth to Ellie in the last episode will be epic. It will bring the story full circle to the moment that episode reaches its climax. Ashley giving birth to Ellie will also be a great metaphor showing how the actress helped to bring the character into our world.

I was in two minds watching this episode. On one hand, I was disgusted and horrified by the things David did, but on the other I was fascinated and impressed at how brilliantly Scott Shepherd nailed the role and how the writing for him was tweaked to make him even more despicable.
Kinda glad he was only in one episode cause I don't I could've handled more than one with him in it.

I dunno what it is. IRL situations I don't get emotional. I never used to get emotional during tv shows or movies either but recently especially during a lot of TLOU i've been tearing up quite a bit. I played the game years ago so everything is always hazy until it actually happens then i'm like "oh shit that's right". Anyway loving the reactions and your takes so far

HBO really doesn't bother with trigger warnings ... at least you knew going in basically what to expect, but man -- ep 8 is a rough one. Almost every episode has been traumatic in some way. In the game, did David try to sexually assualt Ellie?!

The one thing I'm disappointed about is that they didn't show the arcade scene from the game, because it's such a precursor of the one in Part 2. Storm Reid was an awesome cast for Riley though, she really nailed her character. I think I liked her even more in the show.
I think it always made sense that the Ashley flashback would be in the last episode, because that's the only place in the game where you get a tiny little bit of information about her mom.
And yes, It's funny that Joel, who always hated the name Callus, finally got revenge on it. :D And then he gets murdered by Ellie. :)
There's another parallel with David carrying Ellie, not with the ending, but the beginning. We see David carrying her, protecting her from the people who want to kill her - just like Joel carried Sarah, protecting her from the infected. I'm sure the ending will play into this as well though.
David itself is a good cast too. I love his character because he's certainly a good villain. Hopefully the actor doesn't get shit for that. I don't know how people can't get him in the game? The guy Joel tortures literally says that Ellie is his newest pet, and the hand scene itself was also very obvious. Although one sicko commenter recently tried to argue that it was romantic but not sexual… Like wtf? But hey, there's also people who didn't realize that Bill & Ellie are gay and that Bill & Frank were a couple. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've seen a lot of blind reactors already talking about revenge and grey areas though, so what they're doing with the show in preparation for Part 2 seems to be definitely working. We'll see if that changes perspectives of the masses though, but I'm sure the review bombing will happen either way from 'that' crowd.
Edit: Oh, forgot to act. The only reason Ellie was able to grab the cleaver was because David took one hand away from her to open his pants…
