Other than the engine, the 450-c uses J20A spec Transmission and Hydraulic Oil everywhere else. The transmission, hydraulics, finial drives and steering clutches all use the same oil. Something like this: amzn.to/3mRIPTk
I have a 1976 450C. My original Operators Manual says the plug in your video is the (A)Filler Plug. The one lower is the (B)Oil Level Check Plug and that's where the oil should be at its highest. My oil level is at the (A) Filler Plug. So its either grossly overfilled or the manual is wrong. It works, so I'm not sure. How is yours steering? Thanks!
Hi SeidelRandh - I have a JD 455E trackloader "Need advise on" single footbrake pedal adjustment. My footbrake does not move at all footbrake does not work. Any advise and or video how to fix / adjustment? Thanks in advance. Albert D.
Hi Andrew Stewart, you are right. Mine is a dry clutch and NO oil should be added. I watched this video and added oil in that plug, everything worked great before. Now steering doesnt work and it doesnt have enough power to even go forward. I drained the oil, used 20 litres of varsol, then drained it again. But still doesnt work right. Please suggest what should I do? Thanks
Thanks for sharing. Older units were dry clutch until they switched to wet clutches. Always check the manuals for the machine before you put in any fluids. I have heard people use acetone to clean a dry clutch, but remember everything you read on the internet is at your own risk.
@@SeidelRanch Hey brough a JD555 out to my property this morning to cut a new road, a friend loaned it to me. Was working fine for about an hour and then lost a lot of power at my tracks, at rpm it wouldn't even move under it's own power. I saw that the trans pressure was below 50 what I'd assume to be psi. Transmission was full, didn't even know about those fill ports on the sides for the clutch packs. Do you know I'd tell if they're a wet or dry system? I'll be replacing the transmission filter tomorrow morning, might be caked up with gunk. Do you have any other ideas why I've lost transmission pressure? Thank you.
I wouldn't put fluid in the clutches if you don't know. It would be odd that both would stop at once. I would think it has more to do with the pump getting weak with the fluid getting hot and thin. Did you ever find the issue? Did it work again once it cooled off?
@@SeidelRanch Thanks for getting back to me, I really appreciate it. The clutches are wet and full. Changing the filter didn't fix the issue and it has not been resolved. It's currently stuck on my property. The friend who loaned it to me says it hasn't done any hard work since the mid 90's and has just sat leading me to believe that the fluid is rotten, getting too thin and frothing post pump. Will likely need to change the fluid and possibly change the pump since the friend also told me the reason that it has sat so long was because it was losing power at the tracks. -_- Would've been nice to know before I hired a trucker to haul it two hours to my off grid property.

Uh, sorry to pop your bubble dude but you don't know much about the tractor or making a decent vid. Clean that poor JD. If you have one of these great tractors get the Tech Manual. I can't believe the manual has no instruction for changing the fan belt(T24473). Mine has the awesome Drott 4-in-1 bucket. I have cleared 9 acres of brush, huge redwood stumps, lifted huge logs, leveled ground, and more. love this thing.

I just find a good person he told me how to adjustment remove the cap right next to the plug to the To the front side it's a pin but in side you can see a bolt i thing 3/4 just tie that all the way then go back 1/2 turn and that it good luck
I appreciate the videos , but you put to much detail in tools etc. Keep it direct and to the point . If you look at a plug and can't tell that you need a half inch ext. they will probably never use one . So the guys who want to learn real stuff get crazy waiting for real information .

I don't know the 455 very well. The 450C has hand brakes that adjust under the seat.

What are you using in the steering clutch for fluid or oil ?
My 450c will not move forward or reverse when fluid gets warm/hot. Any suggestions?
I am no expert on all that, but you may have a reverser going out. The oil gets thinner when hot and could cause it to slip. Just a guess.
How do you check the RPM's after relacing the throttle cable ?
Use something like this: amzn.to/3DNmn56

It needs a repair for sure. The seals blew out.
Do you fill to that plug level?
Yes, fill it up until you see it come out of the plug hole.
SeidelRanch with hydraulic fluid?
Great video. Can you show the backhoe getting connected? Thanks!
Where is the drain plug located for the steering clutches?
It should be on the bottom of the clutch housing near the inside of the track. It may be dirty and need to be cleaned off to see it.
They run a dry clutch , final drive is all you need to change occasionally i

Those are not fill plugs do not put oil in there they run a dry clutch
What year and model do you have? Older ones had dry clutches and newer ones had wet.
