I don't remember the first time I heard the hurdy gurdy. I have visited many "medieval" events with my family when I was a child and usually there were bands with the hurdy gurdy and other medieval instruments. I love the sound of this instrument and in the future I would love to own one :-) Congratulations on 100k subscribers! ❤
I first heard the hurdy gurdy when I started listening to Eluveitie over 10 years ago. I ordered my own hurdy gurdy from the Ancestore (the one from your Slipknot riffs) and can't wait to start practicing it myself. Your music is amazing, keep doing what you do!

The first time I heard hurdy gurdy was the first time I heard Eluveitie about 6-7 years ago. I was totally in love with the sound in a flash! I still adore how different the music played with hurdy gurdy can be, and it's always breathtaking. And Michalina is a real virtuoso hurdy gurdy player, talented and hardworking.
The first time I heard the Hurdy Gurdy was actually a medieval band suggested to me by a friend a couple years ago and I've loved it ever since. Your channel has been amazing in opening up my understanding of all the ways the instrument can be played!
The first time I heard hurdy gurdy was on Metallica's "Low Man's Lyric" on the Reload album. Remains a fascinating instrument to me, and I would love to learn firsthand how they're built!

I had never heard of this instrument until today but I love it. Such a great unique sound!
Pierwszy raz spotkałem się z Lirą Korbową jakieś 2 może 3 lata temu na You Tubie. Dokładnie zaczęło się od tego tytułu - "The Longing" - Patty Gurdy. Od tamtej pory muzyka w której pojawia się ten wspaniały instrument (Hurdy Gurdy) cały czas w jakimś stopniu przewija się przez moje życie. A jako że jestem wielkim fanem Metalu wszelkiej maści to niemożliwym było nie natrafić na twój kanał. Ale dopiero dzięki twoim coverom poznałem drugie, diabelskie oblicze liry. Połączenie jej z metalem, ach coś pięknego. Jako już przeszło 10 letni gitarzysta (11 lat temu zacząłem się uczyć gry na gitarze) chciałbym pewnego dnia zobaczyć ten instrument, dotknąć, spróbować swoich sił. Może dzięki temu znajdę zaparcie w sobie i uzbieram fundusze pozwalające na zakup takiego dzieła sztuki :) Gratulacje 100k. Oby tak dalej :) Pozdrowienia z Katowic ;-)
The first time I heard this beautiful instrument didn't know what it was, I thought it was some kind of fiddle violin or something. Years and years after (almost 15) I saw the gurdy in one of the Eluveities videoclips, but even then I thought I'd never see any in my whole life. And then I found this channel and Patty Gurdy's and could watch by myself the instrument, listen it separetly
she may not know the emotion that it gives me to see that she uploaded a video of my favorite band, but it is incredible

The hungarian verison of the Hurdy-gurdy (called Tekerőlant, or Nyenyere) is a quite common folk instrument. I played the violin when i was in the elementary school, and at some point in the begining a guest teacher came with a bunch of instruments and we learnt about the relatives of the violin: the viola, the cello, the double-bass, and of course: the Hurdy-gurdy. :)
First time I've ever heard it was HERE!!! And Muse is my favorite when Plug In started you melted my heart.

The first time I knowingly heard a hurdy-gurdy would be when I was visiting Quebec City and a street entertainer was playing one. After a song, they took the time to explain to a very fascinated 10-year-old me and my classmates what it was.

I 1st heard the Hurdy Gurdy in 2008 during the folk festival part of New England Metal Fest. Ensiferum, Turisas, Týr, Eluveitie were doing a joint tour. After a weekend of mostly the same these bands really stepped it up. Ill always remember that sound and where I was....became a fan instantly.

I got into folk metal in 2011 and one of the first bands I started listening to was Eluveitie, and I researched so much about the band and then I got acquainted with the hurdy gurdy. I also started following your covers of bands I like and I’m impressed of how versatile that instrument is.
The first time I've heard a hurdy gurdy was 4 years ago and I've heard in Eluveitie's songs, Omnos was my first song and I fell in love with hurdy gurdy. Then I found your covers of Elu's songs and I decided - I just have to have my own gurdy. Hey! The first time I heard (and saw!) hurdy gurdy was in the video of the "Inis Mona" group Eluweitie. Then Anna Murphy had this unusual musical instrument.It was probably 12 years ago.
I remember the year of 2017, my brother in law just started to put music on RUclips and I was enjoying it so much and when he told me the band is Eluvietie I just remember I love the sound of the instrument I couldn’t identify, that’s when he told me about the hurdy gurdy and ever since I’ve been learning about it and hopefully learn and have one, one day✌️
My parents took me to a lot medieval markets and stuff like that as a kid, so I probably heard the hurdy gurdy there first, but the first time I can actually remember was a few years ago. Somewhere in the wilds of the internet somebody posted a link to a certain cover of Lamb of God's Grace played on hurdy gurdy. Loved the video, but quickly forgot about it again. Fast forward to just two days ago when I randomly stumbled upon this channel. Watched a couple videos, including a Q&A where you showed a picture of your first gurdy and I thought "Wait a second, I know that screenshot". I scrolled all the way down to your oldest videos and it *was* actually you! It felt so fucking awesome, like finding a long forgotten relic of your past. So yeah, thanks for making me a fan of both Lamb of God and Eluveitie and congrats on the 100k!
I first heard the hurdy-gurdy from Anna and Eluveitie like many, technically with ''Inis Mona'' but it wasn't until I listened to ''Brictom'' and ''Thousandfold'' that the distinct sound of the instrument caught my attention and made me want to read about it. Now after all these years I just ordered a Saphona back in march and I can't wait to get my hands on it and see the instrument in real life.

The first time I saw the hurdy gurdy was when during my first concert ever seeing Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in the "No quarter" tour in Cleveland, Ohio US. I was 15 years old and Nigel Eaton did a hurdy gurdy solo during their song "Gallows Pole". To this day, it is absolutely the most amazing instrument solo that I've ever heard live. It was such an amazing show. Video exists of his solo online and I'd recommend it to anyone. :-)

First time I saw hurdy gurdy in the russian thematic village "Mandrogi". I saw it in a workshop and asked "oh, what is it?". A craftsman said "I'll show you If you wait a little bit". He tooks hurdy gurdy and started play and sing. That was great. I heard sound like a bagpipe. The craftsman "Lirnik Vasya" creates and sales hurdy gurdies.

The first time I heard the hurdy gurdy was way back in the 70´s in a folk-band. I remember that I was very in love with the sound....a fiddel yet not a fiddel, then I learned the name hurdy gurdy
I dont remember for the first time, but I raised up in folkmusic culure, so this instrument is well known for me since kindergarten. Unfortunately I never learned to play on it, but nowadays I like to listen hurdy gurdy music.
I live in the middle of Siberia and there are a lot of indigenous people (native tribes) in there, who still preserve their culture to some degree. This results in regular cultural/folk festivals. Most of the music played on those festivals is obviously local stuff like throat singing
, mouth harps, percussion, etc; but you can also encounter people who are not indigenous yet play some folk, so are allowed to perform some music on those festivals, too. Said people use wider variety of instruments - violins, guitars, flutes, hurdy gurdies, even bagpipes sometimes. So that was how i first heard the hurdy gurdy, in 2013, in the middle of the forest 500 km away from my city, during a really cold August evening, and the fog from a nearby river even made things worse. Everyone was freezing. The poor musician could barely play, lol. Still liked it.

The first time I heard a hurdy gurdy (atleast live) was at a concert in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2012. I came to see Sabaton, the main act for the evening. Yet the best part of the concert was discovering the to me at the time unknown support act Eluveitie. They took me by storm and I've loved their music and of course the hurdy gurdy ever since!

If my memory serves me right, the first time I've heard a hurdy gurdy must have been at my first live concert of Eluveitie at Paganfest I believe in 2008. The most memorable time was at a small vikingfestiveal in Norway called Midgardsblot, played by Kati Ran accompanied by Folket Bortafor Nordavinden. Still gives me chills.

The way the light reflects off your glasses is pretty cool! So, the first time I listened to hurdy gurdy was right here on RUclips! It was when I first discovered Eluveitie, with the song The Call of the Mountains. I think this was shortly before Anna, Ivo, and Merlin all left. I was certainly intrigued, because I had never seen anything like the hurdy gurdy before. I feel like the instrument has been getting more and more popular the past few years. So far, I only know of you, Anna, Patty Gurdy, and the girl in Storm Seeker.
