25 years ago today, I received this and Godzilla vs Monster Zero for my 6th birthday, thus kickstarting my love of Japanese kaiju films/TV shows. My world has been far better since
I remember when I got “Godzilla’s Revenge” on VHS (which was my first Godzilla movie) but I’ve also seen Godzilla 1984 .. Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 1&2 on tv .. but it wasn’t until the Godzilla revenge VHS introduced me into more other Godzilla movies .. specially this one
I owe this trailer for introducing me to get the vhs copy of Godzilla King of the Monsters. I don’t remember the narrator sounding this cheesy and over the top though.
+Heartless Vanitas The Japanese version of Godzilla had strong antiwar and antinuclear messages, and these messages were eliminated deliberately in the American version because an antinuke sentiment was a very touchy issue in the United States.
I watched both version. I do agree the Japanese version is superior and it had a well let me say a "Akira Kurosawa" feel and motive in it. When I watch the Japanese version, I felt like I was watching a Kurosawa film rather then a sci-fi film which would make sense because Ishiro Honda, Gojira's director worked under Kurosawa and even adopted some of his technique. Although the anti-war and anti-nuclear was removed from the US adaptation. It wasn't completely eliminated, I found some scene in the American version where some anti-nuclear theme are left in but not too overt. But I was impressed the US adaptation kept almost a lot of stuff from the Japanese original. Interesting fact: Terry Morse, the director and editor for the American adaptation was so impressed with the original Japanese version that he had a copy of the Japanese print in his private collection. That may explain why Terry Morse kept some of the anti-nuclear theme in Godzilla. I don't think he didn't wanted to completely remove the anti-nuclear message in the American adaptation. That may explain why almost a lot of the stuff from the Japanese original was left intact for the American adaptation.
@@MrEjidorie HEY! If it wasn't for the american version, the japanese version would have been lost, Yes, believe it or not. At the time, the original 54 Gojira was the subject of immense controversy in Japan due to its premise bringing up the ugly aftermath of World War II while they were in the midst of recovery, and as such, the movie didn't do all that well at its initial release. However, the recut version of the film downplayed the connection between Godzilla and nuclear weapons, sidestepping a potential controversy over the film. As a result, the movie was seen as a typical monster movie in the United States and became a huge success. The popularity of Godzilla: King of the Monsters led to a release of the recut in Japan◊ in 1957, which fared better the second time around. so if it wasn't for the american version. there wouldn't be any godzilla movies cept that one.
Not to hate on the classic but this version looks so boring from wat the newer version has like i just no saw that there was a classic version of it i looked up the trailer an its just godzilla destroying the place i was expecting war seeing an very old version then wat my dad brought me up to cuz i like the evolution of movies but it just being godzilla sadens me 😟
because unlike other monsters at the time Godzilla was something different the film gives a powerful message about nuclear destruction and other movie monsters would get killed by the military but not Godzilla the japan's military could of did nothing against the monster thats hes the king of the monsters

Same for me but it was Christmas and replace Vs. Monster Zero with Mothra vs. Godzilla.
I saw it at the end of Godzilla Vs Monster Zero. Only I rented the video from Blockbuster a long time ago in the 1990S.
Fun fact. I bought a specific copy of Godzilla King of the Monsters on DVD purely for the trailers (this included)
Mothra vs Godzilla was my favorite VHS cuz the trailers at the end would get me hype every time!!

it's Godzilla 1954
I don't get why they called him king of the monsters if he didn't do anything in this movie to become king
You tell him he is not a King.?!?!
What's different with Godzilla Revenge despite he doesn't have anything to revenge on
because unlike other monsters at the time Godzilla was something different the film gives a powerful message about nuclear destruction and other movie monsters would get killed by the military but not Godzilla the japan's military could of did nothing against the monster thats hes the king of the monsters
He destroys Tokyo, I wouldn't call that nothing. I didn't see King Kong destroy New York City.
