How many people play games from before that? I grew up in the 80s and a couple of my favorite games were Dungeon Master and Sundog. Sundog was a space game with a few side things you could do. One of the first sandbox game but with very simple graphics. I doubt anyone from today would go back and try to play it. Thats the thing about games, its not like shows or movies. Its a pretty big investment to play old games. Another favorite is Mafia which came out around 2000 and only works on Win 98. Lots of good games from win 98 days. The remake was not nearly as good.
@@tomm1109 Mafia was playable beyond Win98. I have played it initially on an XP machine. Even today, with just a few fixes, it runs on Win10. They don't have to go super old and include now-obscure games for the PC gamer cred but in the same breath, it's disingenuous to call their list best RPG of all time and just include games from the last decade. It's a total disservice to the games that actually shaped the genre to what it is now. There are still old but playable games that still continue to resonate with players.

After becoming very disappointed playing Starfield , started playing the Mass effects legendary edition and then could really appreciate how good of a game Mass effects 3 is.The series is truly legendary.

Yes they are. There were a lot of solid RPGs from that era - Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, the Lunar series, Breath of Fire 2 and 3, The Legend of Dragoon, Suikoden 1 and 2, the Front Mission series, Valkyrie Profile and the SaGa games to name a few.
This is my first video of GamingBolt, and that felt like a video made from a guy who googled "top RPGs" and read the descriptions of every games, 100% generic, 0 thoughtful, It sounded like that person didn't completed more than a handful of RPG titles. Whether the picks were well deserved or not, the rational felt like the work of a highschooler doing a school project on a book he never read. Yeah, it is hard to argue. Horizon gets me with the masterful telling of the Apocalypse and story. Each their own, but the thought and realism amazes me. I am a story guy. For me, a game player of 40 years plus. Off the top of my head because that's what is truly memorable. BG3, Witcher 3, FF7 all versions, Horizon series, Wasteland series, Rockstars, Ubisoft's, Bethesda's, Diablos, Skyrim's Crags like dragon age, divinity 2, and fallout series. All the Yakuza, games that are awesome but mess with y depression like Elden Ring and all the demon/blood-borne stuff. Turn based X=com 2 is awesome. I am sure I forgot some, but the Max Payne remake has me excited, back in the day its series was awesome. Almost forgot the Mass Effect series. With all of this, there are games I have forgotten and have not played.
sorry i'm goin to have to disagree about Starfield. that NG+ loop kill several of it's features with "why should i do that when your gonna take it away anyhow?" Outposts: only useful for Exp and Credits after setting up a base to mass produce something. then wait in a loop. Collecting Uniqe weapons and armor: most of that is RNG and Once more gets wiped so no point in hording. which in the end leaves you with Collecting magazines for perks and temple powers while looping the main story. LOOP:NG+, get cash, get gun, get armor, get ship, spec ship, loop story, collect temples, rinse repeat. gettinng cast takes like 15 -20 minutes of neon controband theft loop from security @1000 Mass and your set for the rest of the game.
Almost all of these aren’t RPGs in my opinion, these are hybrids. If you can’t create your own character and have the freedom to do anything and any quest line that makes sense for your role play. I still play Elder Scrolls Oblivion for this. Starfield is also underrated, it’s a fantastic Mass Effect like, RPG sandbox that allows you to play how ever you want.

The title is misleading, it looks like they are ranking action RPGs and not RPGs. I enjoyed Starfield, but I would rank Morrowind or Fallout 3 much higher than Starfield. I was unimpressed with Diablo IV. Knights of the Old Republic is a much better game. You can only justify placing Final Fantasy sisteen ahead of nine or seven if you are limiting the list to the last few years. Mass Effect 3 is a cover shooter with RPG elements, ME 2 is a thousand times better. Other than Skyrim, the list skews heavily to recent games. Several series have better games than the ones listed here.
At 06.10.. Witcher 3... Geralt is Male.. HE is on a quest to find HIS adopted daughter.... Its quite a good list, but you missed Kingdom come Deliverance, Ghost of Tsushima, AC Odyssey, Origins and Immortals fenix rising..

Almost 50% aren’t top 100. Many weren’t top 15 games during their year of release. Prime example: Starfield is egregiously mid. Was it a top 15 game this year? Tough to argue in its favor. I preface my second point with this caveat: Those people who gate keep what an RPG is are very annoying. With that said, they’d find a home on this video because there are 5 videos, minimum, that one could argue are not RPGs. Very interesting video!

Yeah, it is hard to argue. Horizon gets me with the masterful telling of the Apocalypse and story. Each their own, but the thought and realism amazes me. I am a story guy. For me, a game player of 40 years plus. Off the top of my head because that's what is truly memorable. BG3, Witcher 3, FF7 all versions, Horizon series, Wasteland series, Rockstars, Ubisoft's, Bethesda's, Diablos, Skyrim's Crags like dragon age, divinity 2, and fallout series. All the Yakuza, games that are awesome but mess with y depression like Elden Ring and all the demon/blood-borne stuff. Turn based X=com 2 is awesome. I am sure I forgot some, but the Max Payne remake has me excited, back in the day its series was awesome. Almost forgot the Mass Effect series. With all of this, there are games I have forgotten and have not played.

sorry i'm goin to have to disagree about Starfield. that NG+ loop kill several of it's features with "why should i do that when your gonna take it away anyhow?"
Outposts: only useful for Exp and Credits after setting up a base to mass produce something. then wait in a loop.
Collecting Uniqe weapons and armor: most of that is RNG and Once more gets wiped so no point in hording.
which in the end leaves you with Collecting magazines for perks and temple powers while looping the main story.
LOOP:NG+, get cash, get gun, get armor, get ship, spec ship, loop story, collect temples, rinse repeat.
gettinng cast takes like 15 -20 minutes of neon controband theft loop from security @1000 Mass and your set for the rest of the game.
Almost all of these aren’t RPGs in my opinion, these are hybrids.
If you can’t create your own character and have the freedom to do anything and any quest line that makes sense for your role play.
I still play Elder Scrolls Oblivion for this.
Starfield is also underrated, it’s a fantastic Mass Effect like, RPG sandbox that allows you to play how ever you want.
That’s a unique list, there are a few unexpected games listed.

Cyberpunk2077 well over 1000 Hours into base game and many,many more in Phantom Liberty DLC that made a good game great..
Witcher 3 is 1 of the best games i ever played if not the best(when i put 2 dlcs w base game its the best game ever)
Ni No Kuni 2 is another great game i love n played that i didnt think i would like much,But oboy was i wrong....

The title is misleading, it looks like they are ranking action RPGs and not RPGs. I enjoyed Starfield, but I would rank Morrowind or Fallout 3 much higher than Starfield. I was unimpressed with Diablo IV. Knights of the Old Republic is a much better game. You can only justify placing Final Fantasy sisteen ahead of nine or seven if you are limiting the list to the last few years. Mass Effect 3 is a cover shooter with RPG elements, ME 2 is a thousand times better. Other than Skyrim, the list skews heavily to recent games. Several series have better games than the ones listed here.
"Of All-Time" is a bit of a stretch. Or rather the opposite of it... A squish?
At 06.10.. Witcher 3... Geralt is Male.. HE is on a quest to find HIS adopted daughter.... Its quite a good list, but you missed Kingdom come Deliverance, Ghost of Tsushima, AC Odyssey, Origins and Immortals fenix rising..

Got to strongly disagree with Diablo4. One of the worst maybe.
This is suppose to be of all time yet it doesn’t include any older titles. Where’s FFVI or VII, or Chrono Trigger. And half these games aren’t even RPGs. I don’t think I’ll be subscribing, but I will be adding the channel to my “do not recommend me this channel” list.
I feel like Monster Hunter World is better than Rose. Also Mass Effect 2 was better story and choice than 3. You can't just pick the newest version of a game and say it's better than the previous games in the series because it's graphics or what not are better. And to say final fantasy 16 is the best in the series... that's just poor rushed fishing for a spot on the list. Don't even get me started on Starfield 😂

Almost 50% aren’t top 100. Many weren’t top 15 games during their year of release. Prime example: Starfield is egregiously mid. Was it a top 15 game this year? Tough to argue in its favor.
I preface my second point with this caveat: Those people who gate keep what an RPG is are very annoying. With that said, they’d find a home on this video because there are 5 videos, minimum, that one could argue are not RPGs.
