  • The scene is set in Mols Bjerge in a sun-drenched Djursland, where over fifty cyclists of all sorts have set out to conquer the climb between two local villages, Vrinners and Agri. Each determined to conquer their own Mount Everest. Each their own mountain. Each their own Mols Everest. They are attending a worldwide cycling event, where riders in now 116 countries participate and strive to reach up to 8848 meters of elevation within a confined area, in this case, 2.1 km repeatedly going back and forth. Back and forth. Up and down. Up and down. Up and down. Again and again. Like an endless game of ping-pong between determination, passion, and self-awareness.
The whirring sounds of bicycle wheels approach from the distance like determined cicadas in the scorching heat under the southern sun, fiery rhythms from the sound system in the background, and the characteristic tour horns fill the atmosphere. Excitement and an encouraging mood rise towards the top of Mols Bjerge this first Saturday in June. The fight to reach the top not once, not twice, but up to 101 times on the bikes is underway. In various categories and goals for the ride, we also find Mads (aged 32) bikefitter and professional coach and Martin (aged 55) Founder of the largest network of entrepreneurs in Denmark, the extreme cyclist, and the recreational athlete.
Spectators cannot help but notice the two riders' motivation, energy, and approach to the race - or perhaps rather the differences. While the athlete, Mads, is a machine, calculated and with exact timing duo to his experience in sports science, conquering the heights with the help and cheering of a team of family and friends who, without doubt, know his every need - and Martin, who with not only his age, his many years of experience, and determination stands alone against the heat, the piercing sun, and his own vulnerability, but also has to pull himself up the climb and instill the necessary energy in his willpower and to say the least - his legs.
Two individuals united and yet each in their own struggle to reach the top, where only their own will and perseverance can bring them victory - and honor. The shared passion that drives both them and the entire field is captured magnificently by film producer Thomas Toft Nilsson, who is the driving force of the documentary, where especially the beautiful and adventurous surroundings in southern Djursland set the stage for perhaps the world’s toughest cycling challenge. A cycling race that, despite only running for the last two seasons in Denmark, stands out as unique and inclusive in its participant lists. Race organizer Uggi Kaldan Heuser, together with the riders, manages to create a magical atmosphere characterized by courage, overcoming, endurance, and victory. A perfect cocktail wrapped in beautiful images and with a touch of deadly realism not only on the screen, but also among the riders and their formidable performances.
