Thank you for getting back to Tom. I was a little white kid growing up in NYC in what used to be called a slum in the 1960’s. I was called everything you can imagine and some things you can’t imagine. It all comes from a place of ignorance, power and it all starts in the home and at school. The whole idea behind "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" is a lesson that just because you get called a name doesn't mean you have to defend yourself verbally or physically. The temptation in childhood is to react physically when someone calls you a name because depending on the situation/circumstance names can cause you to feel harmed in some way but the idea is that a verbal assault is not a physical assault and doesn't require a physical response. Important for children to learn this or else everyone would be fighting all day every day at the local elementary schools. Learning how to respond to confrontation both verbal and physical is very important and many people never learn. Today many people think a verbal assault is the same as physical assault and our schools and political correctness are at the center of this. If you cannot reason and guage your way through being called a name without reacting violently, then any one at any time can completely control you by setting you off at the right time they can cause you all kinds of trouble if your response is predictable. Don't give people that level of control over you where you're just exploding and an emotional ball of fury. Stay calm and understand those words cannot break your bones. A calm calculating individual is a formidable opponent that eventually gets respect from those who have no respect to give. Learn the lesson and control your own future
It's also to not give the other person power to hurt you. The saying was never meant to be taken so literally. Of course, words hurt, that wasn't the point. The point is to not give the other person that power, to rise above.

This song reminded me of a good friend...her parents had two daughters & her sister was very petite...so her parents referred to her as 'the fat one'...y'all this girl was NOT fat...but she believed she was her entire life...and still does! When words are used as weapons they can start a war within a person...sometimes it's a war that person doesn't even realize they are fighting...so the conflict goes unchecked and the damage becomes permanent. Great video, guys. Damn, I remember back in 2013, before he passed away, having a conversation with my pops. This was almost 10 years ago obviously. But I remember posing to him the question 'if the terms racist and bigot continue to be thrown around without discernment, not only does it embolden the actual racists, but how long before the words lose their actual meaning?' Well, it's been a slow-drip process but I'll tell you this: any time the MSM leads with stories about 'racists' or 'white supremacists', I automatically tune it out bc I assume it's bullshit to feed their agenda. Do I believe there's racists and white supremacists? Absolutely there are and we should all stay vigilant. But this narrative in the media propagated by the White House that there's white supremacists hiding under every rock... It begins to sound like the narrative used around terrorists and Communists...just change the name of the boogeyman. Well, it's been a slow-drip process but I'll tell you this: any time the MSM leads with stories about 'racists' or 'white supremacists', I automatically tune it out bc I assume it's bullshit to feed their agenda. Do I believe there's racists and white supremacists? Absolutely there are and we should all stay vigilant. But this narrative in the media propagated by the White House that there's white supremacists hiding under every rock... It begins to sound like the narrative used around terrorists and Communists...just change the name of the boogeyman.

Glad you caught "anything that society has taught you to say". Isn't that the truth!!! I was taught, 'Don't say anything if you don't have something nice to say' and 'respect your elders', 'respect authority', 'treat others as you want to be treated', etc. What on Earth are our next generations being taught?! I have been called many names over my years. I am who I am and so are you two. I was affected earlier in life due to those names; but as you grow older it has no affect. Then as you get older and brush it off; the system will label you as an enemy.
Words are powerful. They can build up or tear down. We need to be careful how we wield that sword upon others and we need to keep proper perspective when we hear and internalize words from others.
