You combine growing up in Pennsylvania's snow shovel capital of the US with the Space:1999 comlocks, and you got yourself an episode. EVERY snow storm was an opportunity to take these awesome walkie Talkies outside for an episode adventure. And I mean EVERY time it snowed. And the glorious door open/close sound FX it made. (IF Sixteen-12 doesn't make their forthcoming Comlock with a dedicated key to this it will be a HUGE mistake). I so LOVED these Walkie Talkies.
As a kid i loved space 1999 i recall thinking 1999 is so very far in the future. I had and still have the remco raygun it was the one and only space 1999 toy i saw as a kid.
I had all the LJN ships and loved them. Never had the water stun gun but wanted that so bad. That design was just too cool. I recall seeing all those. The parachute Martin Landau is what you frame on the wall behind glass for art.
I had the 2 foot Mattel toy. I still have my Dinky 1st release Green Eagle in excellent condition. I also have the Enterprise Toys 12 inch Eagle MIB. Love 1st season Space 1999!
I was introduced to Space 1999 and the POTA tv series in 1985 through compilation movies that aired during late nights or weekends. I have no memories of any toys for them, but have seen ads in old comics for parachute toys that were no longer around when I first started seeing the ads in the early to mid 80s. I think said ads also had something came in squeeze tubes like toothpaste, but I'm not entirely sure what those were.
I had the space suit parachutist, but none of the other toys. The ad brings back memories though, we had a Child World at the local mall. I miss the days of having entire stores just devoted to toys and kids' stuff. Today, you're lucky to find 2-3 isles in a store like Walmart.
Ah, this brought a lot back. I had the squirt gun stun gun and loved it to death. I got the giant Eagle for Christmas, but it had a bad door and had to go back... and there were none at the store to replace it with, argh.
I really miss my green metal Dinky toy Eagle I had as a kid. I have one of the more accurate versions today but, I would love to have my old battered one again.
The series had much more advanced effects than star trek and the thoughts of the moon being propelled through space wow. TV monitors in the communicators and CRT monitors everywhere for communications.
I had the space 1999 stun saucer gun that shot those propeller shaped discs from AHI. I loved that gun and played with it a lot as a kid. I think as a kid I found the show pretty dry but loved the toys.
Much as I loved 1999, there never seemed to be ANY fun rack toys from the show in my area when I was little. I think the only thing I ever had (other than the more mainstream Mattel giant Eagle and the Eagle model kit) was Zantor's ship, and the tiny Road Stars Eagle, because there was literally only one of each left at whatever stores I had encountered them at. Zantor's ship came from a HILL'S store, and the Road Star Eagle came from a GC Murphy's. The fragile Road Stars Eagle didn't last long before it lost all of its plastic parts. I recall Zantor's ship fared very well for many years, eventually losing the decals to water from landings in a wading pool (It was neat how it always landed on its feet when dropped in the pool!), and the top protuberance only after a fumble down some concrete steps.
I missed show the first time around but after watching it now I think I would have tuned in for it. ;) Other than the space parachutist lol those are some good solid merchandise for that show.
I had the water pistol. Beyond that, not exactly ‘rack toys’, but loved the 2 Die-cast Eagles by Dinky. And the Airfix kits Eagle and a similar looking ‘Hawk’ scout ship (?) that appeared in one episode.
Great episode. These days, I don't collect anything beyond KISS, but your videos always make me want to dive back into toy collecting. Great review once again. Have a good week!
Had none of these but did have the disc-shooting Star Trek phaser. Still wish I had it... I do, however have a restored Mattel Eagle. One of my most prized possessions...
I had an electronic Space 1999 stun gun that took batteries in the handle and little up when fired. It didn't look like the one from the catalogue page you show, but much more resembled the water pistol. I don't think it was commonly available, and would have been something picked up on a seaside trip or through one of those thin Christmas catalogues that appeared in the Mail here in the Autumn...
oh yeah, remember that episode where they parachuted to the moon from the spaceship? lol. Ironically, they didn't make parachute Star Trek toys for the 11th movie (the reboot, where Spock went through a wormhole chasing romulons) that actually had parachuting in it.
I tried colouring water with red food colouring hoping it would make the water shooting from my Space 1999 water pistol look more like a laser. It didn’t work.
Why do rack toy lines contain so many parachutists but never articulated action figures? Surely real figures would have sold more, even if the price were a little higher.
It can't be Martin Landau under the space suit parachutist. Laundau always had suit 1. Alan Carter had 3; Suit 2 usually went to Dr. Russel in the first season and Maya in the second. The other suit numbers (such as suit 5, the parachutist) were never consistent and often went to extras and guest stars. I had both water pistols. The Eagle water pistol was lame (and green for some reason) but the laser pistol was awesome. That was a great prop anyway, and unlike most of the Star Trek phaser toys it was done in a reasonable scale. My only complaint with the laser water pistol as a kid was that it had a conventional trigger rather than being fired with the thumb, as the "real" props were. There is a thumb button on the water pistol but it's just part of the mold and not functional.
@@BrickMantooth True to the series then! They insisted on putting numbers on everything and it was a continuity nightmare, especially the interior set Eagle numbers that were on all the doors.
I’m 51 years old and I’m loving EVERY video you put out!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Aw man thank you!

I grew up outside of Toronto, so I can relate to moonscapes!
I remember Space : 1999. Used to watch it back in the 1970's. I always liked the Eagle one ship.

I loved the series I only remember the stickers and the due cast airship..i was born in 73
Loved the squirt gun as a kid! I also had the eagle die cast vehicle. Both got a lot of play time.
I had the water pistol, circa 1976/77. A very accurate toy. Loved it.
I had all the LJN ships and loved them. Never had the water stun gun but wanted that so bad. That design was just too cool. I recall seeing all those. The parachute Martin Landau is what you frame on the wall behind glass for art.
I had the moon buggy. Cool show
I loved the stun gun and comlock toys.
Great review! I love Space 1999😁👍

Another great episode
Strange and wonderful are the paths and starts of collecting

Los paracaídas son espectaculares¡¡¡

I love the series and it's look.
I had a spinning disc shooter version of the laser pistol. I played the hell out of that thing.
I had a space 1999 stun gun but it shot little plastic discs. Loved it.
If it came on an AHI card back, it's very rare.
Brick Mantooth pretty sure it did. Also pretty sure that my 9 year old self ripped off said card back in less than a second, lol
wow, both water guns are amazing!!! i'd want them in a heartbeat.

Great video! BTW, the series was just re-released on Blu-ray and I've started watching it from beginning to end. I haven't seen most of the episodes.

I had the squirt gun, which I loved, but which did not stand up to much play in the backyard. Broke in half in about a week. :(
I had the squirt gun, the eagle, the little blue bad guy ship, and I want to say one of the paratroopers but don’t quote me
I had the electronic stun gun. It was huge and, fully loaded with batteries, way too heavy for four-year-old me.
Of course they made Captain Zantor toys! I mean he was Christopher f'ing Lee! One does not ignore our beloved eternal undead overlord.
I tried colouring water with red food colouring hoping it would make the water shooting from my Space 1999 water pistol look more like a laser. It didn’t work.
good try though.

Actually the numbers go all over the map on those, since the video I've noticed 3 different numbers.
