    I really liked the Sgt rock 3 3/4 figures that remco made. They were somewhere between Kenner star Wars and Hasbro 3 3/4 gijoe. Oh remco.....😎 Love your videos Sir.

    The phaser at 3:22 brings back a lot of memories. That and the Mr. Spock Mego are the only Star Trek toys I had. When "The Wrath of Kahn" came out I dug the old phaser out of the toy box and played with it constantly for months.

      Funnily enough, you often get the impression that life back on Earth, superficially, does not always look as futuristic as it does in Star Fleet, so maybe that stuff is canon and just shows what they experience during shore leave. ;)

    I still have the Remco StarTrek Phaser. It's actually my brother's Phaser, as a Christmas 1976 photo states. He also saved the communicator from a model kit. I keep it on a shelf next to the Remco and AHI phasers and the Galileo model. My Mego Kirk, McCoy, and Spock also survived.
    As for the parachuting figures, I now have several of the super heroes and Dr. Zaius, but no Star Trek. The only parachuting figures I had in the 1970's were the generic paratrooper figures.

  • @nvmbrsdoom5
    @nvmbrsdoom5 4 года назад

    Those parachutists were some of my favorite childhood toys, the Trek ones and the Marvel/DC ones. I went through tons of them because they either got stuck in trees or would break upon landing hard on the concrete sidewalk!

    Wow, thank you, another great video! Mind, I had to smile at the Star Trek label - slapping on the train and plane in particular - the photo they used for Captain Kirk on the packaging says it all for me, as he looks on in disbelief at this amazing piece of licensing! Gotta love Remco!

    I was born in 74 so I don't have a frame of reference for TV before that, but did Star Trek pretty much stay in heavy syndication constantly after the series ended? It seems so many of the best Star Trek toys of that era came out between the series end and before the 1st movie. I know I watched it in the 80s well before ST:TNG premiered.

    • @BrickMantooth
      @BrickMantooth  4 года назад +1

      Syndication began for the show around 72 and a phenomenon was born amongst young people. The show was a huge hit, achieving ratings that it didn't when it was a network series.

    • @MrDrokkul
      @MrDrokkul 4 года назад +2

      @@BrickMantooth Wow. I never knew that. Only 3 years after it was ended it became a big hit. Kind of sad. If it had been a different time in TV media they probably would have revived the show (although current TV media seems to not even know how to handle ST). I guess they did do the animated series though, so that's something. I like the movies, but there's a certain charm to the TV shows that lacks in the movies.

  • @thestorm99

    I had most of the toys you showed in this video, including the Space 1999 AHI toys. That blue Phaser squirt gun I still have in a box, somewhere. And I played with that utility belt til it literally fell apart. Then my dad and I built the AMT Exploration Set kit, and I had all three pieces again. Kids today probably look at these as "junk toys", but they were a great, cheap way to have a piece of your favorite TV show. The closest thing to them today would be Happy Meal toys (if those are still a thing). Great video! Thanks!!

    • @BrickMantooth
      @BrickMantooth  4 года назад +1

  • @theuberbob
    @theuberbob 4 года назад

    I had the flying saucer gun - the one that looked like a phaser but you would attach a disc that looked like a wheel full of slanted blades. The hub of the disc had a hole which fit on the end of the phaser, you twisted it around a couple of times until it clicked, then pointed it to the sky and pulled the trigger. It actually worked fairly decently from what I recall. I don't remember it being very sturdy and I think mine eventually broke. The discs were also fairly easy to lose. Thanks for another great video!

      @@BrickMantooth me too. They remind me of all the stores that have disappeared. Shopping was fun in the 70s and 80s. Sure you were stuck in your local town with whatever it's stores had ordered but there was always promise when you went to a different town or city and got to look through stores you had only heard of on tv. Often many toys were different than your home town selection! Now no matter where you go its all the same.

    Normally I just watch your videos on AHI toys and chuckle. I don't remember ever having any of them and I doubt that I would have wanted most of them. But I love your enthusiasm, especially when you talk about those parachute toys. They were really your thing, weren't they? I had a few of those kind of toys that I'd get as stocking stuffers for Christmas, but always generic skydivers.
    But in this video? I totally had that utility belt set! I loved the crap out of it! I remember when the strap broke on the tricorder using a couple of screws and some string to fix it! And using testors model paint to restore the silver highlights! I'm also sure that I'd gotten another single carded phaser! Good stuff!

    I believe I saw most of these on spinner racks growing. up. I don't recall owning any though. I had very little discretionary spending money since we were quite poor. My parents gave me an allowance and I usually saved up for something a little more substantial. They also were not too likely to buy me a toy from a rack just because I wanted it. It wasn't that I was deprived. I had lots of toys. But the toys came mostly at Christmas and Birthdays and when I had saved up.

    Would you do a video on: those crazy little paratroopers from the 1970's that were in bubblegum colors (Blue Purple Orange Pink), Zowies given at Shell gas/petrol stations tiny toy car premiums, non knock-off action figures of the 1970's they were mostly 3.75 inches but there were other sizes and they were mostly kresskee (IDK how to spell that word so I spelled it phonetically) carded some that I know of were in Tootsie type boxes though (but not made by Tootsie).

    I am still mulling this over, but could the parachutist be the quintessential rack toy? the quintessential 70s toy? THat last one may be a bit of a stretch, but I remember toys being kind of cheap, but amazingly functional when I was a kid. I'll keep mulling...

    Does anyone remember the sport games that were like a pinball game. It had a ramp you would launch steel bearings and would collect as your score for hitting different zones on the play field. It was self contained and I had a basketball version in the late 1970s or early 1980s. I would like to find one if they are available. Best Regards everyone...
