    View on Amazon in your region: amzn.to/3Z0i7r1 (my affiliate link). Check for the Intel Celeron N4500 processor model (as shown in this video) but also compare to the Intel Pentium Silver N6000 version, worth going for if it's not much different in price.

    * UPDATE * (September 2023) - Since publishing this video, Google have increased the AUE date (the date up to which the Chromebook receives ChromeOS feature and security updates) to June 2031.

    Im too considering to get this laptop at some point. Because i am pro cloud gaming. While having nothing against local gaming. I am pro. Because speaking from someone like myself who throwed alot of money out of the window on expensive pc parts. Where on some point i realized that i needed those money on something else. Because its like comparing buying vs renting a house both got different pros and cons. If you buy the house you always have it. But downside is when you find out that you no longer want to live at that area. You have issue with selling it. Losing sometimes on it more than you did when you bought it. Also because i am mostly a casual type of gamer rather than competitive one

    Grabbed one of these for 100 bucks to play with ChromeOS, and oh dear......starting with the good, its fine for youtube or spotify, light web browsing, and some light document work (just not all at the same time), and just needing USB C to charge is very convenient. Now for the bad. The screen is large but doesn't have good viewing angles, 4 gigs of ram just isn't enough for a workload in 2023, the CPU is very old and struggles with many of the available apps and games (Magic Arena and Hearthstone are incredibly laggy). It has a paltry 64 gigs of storage, but thankfully there's an SD card slot. If you can find it for 100 or less and just want to use it as a web appliance it's fine, but the 200 plus MSRP is insanely overpriced.

      @@afterglow-podcast This will apply to all Chromebook manufactures and the same for laptops. You have to go to the part level, e.g. CX1500CKA-EJ0017 featured in my review. Agree, not ideal. I always include the exact model/specs in my review and description. My quick tip to everyone is Google the processor name + "release year" to get an initial feel of what you might be looking at if you're not sure, and better still look into some reviews, hopefully like mine, that may help. It can be a pain when the same name is used over the years, but it a way you can liken it to cars, like the Toyota Camry....until you know which year it's from, what engine and level of trim it has, the high level model name doesn't tell you enough.

      @MergeDroid  Месяц назад +1

      I'd imagine you can do better than this, I'd especially want an IPS screen rather than this TN one for reading a lot of documents. Where are you based?

  • @patrickfitzgerald6081
    @patrickfitzgerald6081 5 месяцев назад

    The cheap plastic around the hinges cracked and the screen has detached on my CX1500. It has the Intel Celeron 4500 which is not a great performer, browsing a bit sluggish and you don't want too many tabs open.

    • @MergeDroid
      @MergeDroid  5 месяцев назад +2

      Oh wow. Are you able to go back via ASUS with a warranty claim or complaint here? Would you say you gave it quite a hard life, or just normal use?
      I think the Celeron N4500 is still fine in 2024 for casual users, but where possible there's normally a Pentium Silver N6000 option of the same model , like there is here, to look out for and that would be the better choice if not too much different in price.

    • @patrickfitzgerald6081
      @patrickfitzgerald6081 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@MergeDroid The hinges broke because of sort of rough handling, opening and closing the lid. If I had put lubricant into the hinges it would have lasted longer. A less brittle plastic would be good. Purchased 3 years ago so beyond warranty.
      I am trying to get it to boot from Linux USB. I've gotten root privileges for Chronos and executed dev_boot_usb=1 dev_boot_altfw=1 so the welcome screen offers to look for chrome kernels and alternative(Linux/Windows) but does not see the Live Linux USB keys that are plugged in.

      @@patrickfitzgerald6081 Good context, but still disappointing. Had you been opening mainly from the sides rather than the middle?
      I can feel your pain with the Linux install too, I've not gone down that route before but seen some of the battles people face. So if you get Linux on is it still usable in terms of the screen/hinges - just always open now(??) Good luck getting it sorted, hopefully you can share an update here. In the meantime if you're considering another Chromebook, perhaps there will be some inspiration on the channel.

    • @MergeDroid
      @MergeDroid  10 месяцев назад +2

      That's the quad core Celeron, came out the same year as the N4500 (dual core) Celeron and Pentium Silver N6000, so the same model of CX1500 as the video. The specs of all the screen options are described as 'LED backlit' so I think they're all this TN panel as far as I can see. The chassis would also be the same....so I think not too different. See the latest video I published on the equivalent competition from Lenovo, I'm liking the build quality more and although I have the base model with a TN screen there are options for IPS - ruclips.net/video/KEIDsrPfISs/видео.html

    • @MergeDroid

      A bit hit and miss from what I've seen so far. Ultimately if they give you a high spec Chromebook, it should be good news, but the price tag may also reflect this!
