This song basically sums up the end of my marriage, and the first year of life post divorce. Down to the fact my ex was an artist (I still have a piece he did for me when we first got together, just because it has so many good memories attached to it) and a writer/philosopher, and I see so many of the feelings I had in our last year together reflected here. I kept fighting, and fighting, and well, recent things I've heard through the grape vine, the line "I can't love you anymore" really hit me hard.
I saw Blaqk Audio in Chicago a few weeks ago, which was actually a few days before the one year of my papers being signed. I was hoping for this song, and even though I didn't hear it, the whole night was magic. It reminded me that life really does go on, and everything will be alright.
That's why I fucking love Blaqk Audio/AFI so much. They fucking get it.

Can someone explain what the lyrics mean
To me it sounds like it is about a girl who is an artist and he adores her artistic ability but she is either obsessive with it or doesn't pay him as much attention as she does to her artistry "I demand that you put down your pen." Basically, he is saying "it is me or the paintings." The other lyrics suggest he is leaving her paintings behind (some that she gave him) and is leaving her (towards the door).
