- Hootie and the Blowfish performs "Let Her Cry" with Willie Nelson at the Farm Aid concert in Louisville, Kentucky on October 1st, 1995.
Farm Aid’s mission is to build a vibrant, family farm-centered system of agriculture in America. Farm Aid artists and board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and Margo Price host an annual festival to raise funds to support Farm Aid’s work with family farmers and to inspire people to choose family farm food. For more than 35 years, Farm Aid, with the support of the artists who contribute their performances each year, has raised nearly $80 million to support programs that help farmers thrive, expand the reach of the Good Food Movement, take action to change the dominant system of industrial agriculture and promote food from family farms.

Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help - what can you do?
2024 and still listening to this great music. Will never get old.❤
Daily basis
So soothing and uplifting
Love♥ May all your pains be soothed in the coming year brother
@@matthewbond8874 brilliant!!
I'm 41 and Willie has been the same age my entire life
😂😂
I'm 68 , were closer.
I love Willie.
That’s a hilarious comment 😂
I’d like this comment. But want to keep it at 41 likes for ya
Hahaha yep!! I feel this comment.
We need to do another farm aid , and help our farmers again !!!!!
Joe USN 75....
They get like, 11 billion per from the US government. Sadly, the bigger farmers use their bigger payouts to gobble up the lower farmers.
Amen
Hootie defines for me the 90s when I was dating my wife, Charleston, Beaufort, Columbia and Savannah. Everywhere we went Hootie was playing on a store or restaurant radio. R.I.P Trisha, all of us miss you so much.
it’s so weird. i blare this song all the time, but the past year it’s become one of my favorite songs ever. what’s even crazier is i now work in all four cities you named… i work for a demolition company called DECO based in charleston. crazy small world.
The fact that his live vocals are on par if not even better than his recording is a testament to his talent!
Real music.
He sings effortlessly
You said it best, bro
His vocal range is amazing and he doesn’t need any effects layered on his vocals because he’s got the gift of a near perfect vocal pitch. God has His hand on Darius and Darius is a very anointed man. You can feel it in his presence and in his music. I am beyond blessed to know him
I noticed that immediately too. Most live versions of any band don't sound as good as the studio album.
I have loved Darius Rucker's voice since day one ❤
Darius is a natural talent. Just born to play and sing. What an amazing talent. He’s right at home on stage with a guitar and a microphone.
I totally agree! :-)
.....still in love with the drummer and his talent to set the base of emotion for this classic!!
His father was a singer too
Well all right 😄
Son of South Carolina.
He has such strong energy in his voice . He truly sings with his soul!!
@@Upurzz He has the best baritone voice in the rock world.
Fabulous musician. I have sung with him in the car 1000 times. I play it loud to drown myself out
America needs another farm aid to help our American farmers
2023...still here for this classic!
I love this mans voice ! What a gift .
David Smith gifted
Distinct voice
Me too . Great singer
What a voice, amazing,,,, I could listen to him for hours
My feelings exactly!!!
I would happily listen to Darius sing the yellow pages. My God what a voice.
iagree
lovehimtoo.
Amen the man has got a God given talent
What a great comment.
You aren't kidding!!
Im blown away....this man sounds better live than my old CD
Man this takes me back to being a kid hanging with my Mom and Stepdad my mom probably got sick of us both for playing this song on repeat and playing the air guitar. I grew up with Hootie, Bluestraveler, Bare naked ladies. The 90’s were such an amazing era for music! Love this song and the raw emotion it evokes ❤
I love you.. Idk what else to say
@@jeffreyk9970 ♥️ I miss music like this. It’s organic! I just wish I could have experienced the live performances for some of those bands back then.
Music brings people together...Much needed in the world today.
Hoodie/ Darius is a great musician. I like songs that tell a story which his always do. Keep on doing a great show or albums
all great bands, that you mention
I can't count the times I've listened to this song. But today want to listen to it"I cried. F****** addiction
Hope you’re doing good brother, addiction of any sort is tough. No matter how far apart we are I send my aloha to you friend. Hope you choose yourself above your addiction cause you are worth it champ.
I became a fan of "Hootie and the blowfish" the first time I heard them. Forever in my heart and soul.
They we're one of a kind!
Me too!! ❤️❤️
Absolutely love this. I mean Darius Rucker?! And the way he steps back to Wilie, but Willie makes it obvious "naw this is all for you" like the legend he is, so Darius returns to the mic and finishes his song but still graciously calls out Willie at the end. Respect to the talents of both of these greats
My favorite Hootie and The Blowfish song.
Went to college with these guys....saw them 50 times over the years. First time was at Green Streets for a dollar. Great memories....better band
Brian Armstrong Damn you’re lucky to of went to college with them and heard them before they got big!
Not quite 50 years....earliest you could have seen them were 1986. I am from,Columbia too. Still wonderful.
Damn Brian. Thats cool. Just regular dudes that ended up playing and putting together good songs
five points!
Angela Cook he didn’t say 50 years. He said 50 times! You must be a Clemsux Tater!
His soul is unreal! This dude can mix it up with all genres around the world. Damn good music.
So true years later he is rocking country!
Una grande performance per una canzone molto bella! 😊😍😘🎶🎸🎸🎶💘❤️💋💯💯💯🌅
No smart phones in the air. Just pure enjoyment and love. Can we please go back????
his voice is one of a kind awesome
What a song . The deep well of pain this must come from brings tears to my eyes whenever i hear it . Someone suffered to much to create this masterpiece . You know there are real people out there suffering and I hope they find the help they cry for and find peace in their soul .
I love your comment. We need more people like you in the world now.
He wrote it after hearing She Talks to Angels by the Crowes. He wrote it as a dedication to Bonnie Raitt
Thank you so very much I really needed that today. ♥️
Can't tell how many times I found my loved one blue or just not breathing.....it seems to rip a piece of my soul every time....pray i have seen the last of it. God Bless all who suffer and their families.......so much sadness for all involved
I got talked into playing drums (it was a Wed or Thu night) for their opening band about a week before cracked rear view came out- a little over a year before this Live Aid show. I didn’t really know who they were. Essentially, right before they broke big. I was one of very few people in the club when Darius did a soundcheck. He belted out Let Her Cry a cappella as I sat 10 feet in front of him. Holy moly what a voice. The hair on my arms stood up. I will never forget how down to earth they were. One year later they were back in town playing the big arena.
My brother knew them they webt to u.s.c together.
Cool story, Comfortably Numb!
Lucky you!
Such a cool
Story. Jealous
What a story!
Let her sing if it eases all her pain, my motto in life
I play this song whenever I'm depressed, and I've been thinking about the only man that I've loved, and still loved. He's an alcoholic, and he got sober after I left, and I haven't talked to him in years, and I want to so bad, because he was also my BFF. I'm just scared that he doesn't want to talk to me, and I'm also scared that he's started drinking again, I heard from people who think that he has, but I pray to GOD that he hasn't. It's hard loving someone with an addiction.
If he is the love of your life just try to talk with him by phone, message something like that....try to see him one more time.
You will regret when he dies not doing it.
Youve got to contact him, life's too short to live with regrets and you only regret things you don't do👍
His voice slays me to this day.
Steffanie M
The voice. He’s the man.
I've always liked hootie...the raspy country style vocals, the bluesy solos and fills, the harmonies...just touches my soul!
Me too!!!
a men u
I was a never a Hootie fan when they first appeared, but the older i get, the more ive come to appreciate their talent and how good Darius is....
Ditto. when its on the radio in the 90s I'm like turn this. then I learned. and also heard modern music which is junk
Same
Real music.
@@ficknoti this was modern music when it first came out. One of the early examples of "yarling" vocals
just found out one of my friend's passed away and this was one of his favorite songs and always had me sing it for him when we were at the bar when they karaoke.....R.I.P CAPTAIN JACK you will forever be missed and remembered and I'll always sing this song in remembrance of you.....til we meet again dear friend..
+Alex Lemos Amen brother. We are partying and listening to tunes on youtube. You just had 30+ people tip their bottles and pour a drink in memory of friendship and loyalty.
+jdh023 thank you so much to you and all your friends that really means so much to me that was a very touching gesture and i know my friend captain Jack would have appreciated it so very much as well again thank you from the bottom of my heart..😊
+jdh023 very cool, man. All the best!
dude chill out captain jack is dead
Alex Lemos I'm So Sorry for your Loss
I'm sure there are amazing singers that could cover this song but Darius is the only one that can take this song and bring a tear to your eye. This song was gifted by god directly to Darius.
It's sad that there are so many comments about colour. The ears can't distinguish between black and white so why not just enjoy the enormous talent of this great musician?
For the longest time I never knew he was black. To me it doesn't matter. He's a music legend in my heart!
It is a shame. One of my close friend and still remains that. Is black. My wife and went to dinner with y buddies and his wife😎. We switched wives, heads out of the gutter and went to eat at a place that has great food but should have KKK on the sign. We walked in as two mixed couples, arms around each other etc..Now both Rich and I are no light weights about handling ourself. This was in 79 . Racial crap was abundant. You should have seen the faces and snarls we got. Turned out we probably shouldn't have tempted fate like that.it was fun though. Getting to Hootie. We played let her cry almost nightly when we did gigs. High request. We have a singer that gigs with us that has that type of voice.Always makes the Lady's cry. Great band in its time. I would drop in to see Darius whenever his shows were feasible. I think we should be past all the race crap. People are People. Said my piece.
Dave
Blackestblack666 music is not jugdementel... It's the people that listen are ... No colour or creed please ... just music . Life too short ... 👍👍👍
righteous words
He is SOOO talented. He's my favorite contemporary Country artist. The odd thing is my favorite older artists are Charlie Pride (straight Country) and Ray Charles (who is more crossover). Personally, I do think genetics do have a lot to do with talent and voices. It's not meant to be good or bad. Just fact. The best singers are people of color. Hands down. Just listening to Tuskeegee by Lionel Richie and watching the DVD. What a talented man. I LOVE that CD. Good music is just good music. The world is blessed to have Darius Rucker.
God I miss this band, Darius is awesome but the whole band was so terrific.
Martin Duquette yes the other guy was so into playing the blonde hair guy who is he?? He was feeling it
Hottie is god
Darius wrote the songs he still going
Love this dude's music!
Yep. The were the 90s
one of the best artists to ever write music
I swear I love Darius. I am a huge fan of his. How pure his voice is
This is an unbelievable timeless masterpiece. The singer signs with a deepening emotion that moves the audience magically. Incredible talent and endless memories from this song and it’s musical era.
Hootie has one of the best voices in rock.
Rock, country, soul, a little jazz, blues
So few people can reveal their soul through their voice. Darius can, and it is beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful! I've been with him since day one. Willie I've been with you since my teens n now 60's. Music together is amazing to my soul!
My nephew died in a car accident by little brothers only son child he is has been on life support for a month he was brain dead it's been an awful thing and I miss him dearly my brother is having such a hard time I love him more than all the stars in the sky things will be the same ever again the stars in the sky play a good miss him dearly we all are
this was possibly the most necessary band of all time ....
His voice is still this strong live in 2024. I was lucky enough to be a stagehand and help set up the stage in Hartford Connecticut. And I got to hear him play!! AMAZING!!
Such an amazing song. Killer performance!
Beautiful song. He definitely puts his heart into every word. What a voice
Hello Judy how are you doing hopefully you are doing good??
Darius is absolutely talented. He writes the best songs.
Hello Linda how are you doing hopefully you are doing good??
I dedicate this song to all the women I loved that had addiction. ....
Big-time fan of Darius & all his ventures. ❤
My nephew turned me onto this song, and right now, he's going through everything. I just want the best for him and his wife and family 😢
Hootie came in a time of troubles for me and they helped me through it. Love them
We're from the keys,,,, this is our singer. We all love him.
When Hootie first got big I played the cassette tape so much I wore it out and bought a new one. I love their music and Darius Ruckers voice that much. I played it over and over in my back yard while tanning and it was a HOOT!
Thanks HATBF ♥️
The best halftime performance ever!
This man's voice is flawless? The sun will always come up like this!
I had the chance to hear this live in nashville acoustic it was amazing he is truely a great artist
What a talent he is!
You know he was smoking in the back with Willie before this 😂❤ so glad to be a 90s baby and grow up listening to legends like this
This touches me so much.I was in that same postion of the girl hottie sings about. Its like he created this song for the true depth of my life.
Hello Joyce how are you doing hopefully you are doing good??
Was never a fan much back in the day, but realise now this guy has the most awesome voice. Wish I could sing half as good
What a beautiful song, love his voice, wow and Willie is playing backup, awesome to listen too!
I was at this first Farm Aide in Louisville, Ky and what I remember most was the beautiful and gracious soul of Mr Darius Rucker. He seemed to have really enjoyed himself with all us white people, as there were few people of color, but it was a great concert and Dave Matthew's Band also rocked the house. It was a nice show!
I love this song even though it makes me cry. Hootie and the Blowfish so rock everything they do. Hugs to all of you!!!
Love e this song
@@tammycole5050 u just
Thank you for bringing so much joy in to my family through out the years. You are the truth Darius. We appreciate you!
One of the best male voices of our time
Agreed
That was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen
Darius is so good he broke some of those barriers that are part of some of the disturbing comments I read here. Too bad for you guys because this guy deserves credit for being so much more then a musician he is a great human being. Love Him.
Hello Hootie & The Blowfish,,,,,,,, This Song is Amazing & it Reminds Me When I was In Tucson Arizona a Long Time Agao ,,, &Iwas in A Bad Relationship & This Song Played Over My Cassette Tape Player & Made Me Happy For A Few,,, Thanks,,, ‼️🎶🎶🎵‼️🎵🎶‼️☮️‼️
dude can do anything he wants to, he's that good.
as for the color thing, you guys are about 60 years too late, I listened to Charlie Pride singing country music back in the late 60's early 70's the man was every bit as talented as Darius here is, and as talented as many of the white singers in country music were (many by their own admission) back in his era.
music only knows the color the haters paint it with, Charlie proved it, the Beastie boys proved it, more will come to again prove it.
music knows emotion, It tells a story. Darius is a story teller just like Willie who was on that stage with Darius
Well said
AMEN
Yes sir. I was raised in that era. I remember asking my mom why blacks needed to march for equal rights when our constitution says all men are all equal. The innocence of a child
Thank you!
Charlie Pride!!!!!
I hear this song and i think about riding with my dad to my coaches pitch baseball games when i was a kid. He had this cassette in his S10 pickup and it stayed in there.
Walking down memory lane at 2:40 am on a Friday morning (insomnia), not sure how I ended up here, but damn…this is great! I sure wish I could have seen them live. REUNION! It’d be insane!
Did you see their comeback tour in 2019?
I grew up with Country, Blues, Rock from the 70's to the 80's .Country has always been my go to. Although my best "News Year's Eve was sitting in BB Kings bar in Memphis..I was in Aww..
I love how Darius is visibly and audibly inebriated and yet his performance is spot-on, slurred speech and all. Master entertainer.
I guess with Willie behind ya it's all good, lol. I still loved it!
Kevin Roeske he is with Willy, you’d have slurred speech to 😜
Not sure about that. Darius is pretty straight edge
I thought it was just me thinking that LOL
Let me introduce you Also to ozzy....
These guys put on one best live shows you can see
this is genuinely a great song. Great musical sense and a very talented singer. I'm no expert when it comes to vocals but i can feel that he knows his range, i say he had mastered it. this type of song don't come out anymore, i wish there was more of this kind. New generation should learn from this because all they know is
By any band name he is amazing. What a voice
Ive allways liked this song . However when i watched this video and saw the emotion he puts in it...i swear i can feel his heart and soul...THATS THA JAM
I love this with a passion
I could listen to his awesome voice 24/7
I'm going to look that up..Thanks Matthew
you can feel the emotion ...like he lived it....classic
Hootie and the blowfish you have helped me so much with this song in my life. My depression and suicidal thoughts so deep I need songs like this to tell the world how my mind speaks to myself.
You are loved!
I love this song. It makes me cry. Joyful tears though. ❤❤❤ Can't forget about the songs we grew up on.
I still remember the concert you performed at Fresno State. I drove my son and his friend back to Cal Poly where they were in school so they did not miss your fabulous performance. I will always remember Darius, Hootie and the Blow Fish. You guys Killed it!
Ineffably beautiful voice, so beautiful it pains and soothes your heart at the same time.
My best friend growing up is one of the peopleI respect still today !! One of best family I ever have been around his Father was my track coaches , football as well and encouraged me to get to another of accomplishments in my youth to help me out today never give up on my self Joey charals great friend His folks too
Some people are born with voices that cant be duplicated and just have to be a gift or talent from God. The lead singer for Counting Crows, Aaron Lewis, Waylon and George Jones all very unique crooners!
Tracey Chapman, Jonny Lang. The hooties :) lush
What about Roy Orb?
aaaaa0000000000 Holy shit you said my favorite Aaron Lewis, but how about James Hetfield, what you think of him?
Adam duritz is a hero of mine but they’re pretty bad live. He’s got a good studio voice but struggles bad live.
Van Morrison, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, John Denver, Pavarotti, Whitney Houston, 2Pac
I'm listening as long as yall keep putting out creed. Anytime anywhere
I LOVE when Willie plays with other bands! He's so awesome, I wish more musicians did that too!
I gotta say this is absolutely one of the best versions I’ve heard of this song. From his raspy voice and the passion and emotion that he puts into this song. Way better than any other live version and way better than the album version.
His voice is second to none !
I love this, I love Darius n Hootie. Imagine, having Willy n trigger behind you, what an honor
Darius Rucker said this was the day of his life when he knew he made it cuz Willie Nelson played backup for him
Love it and I love you Guys!
Except for the fact that he either had no audio or he had the volume down all the way on purpose
Always a pleasure to hear Darius sing anything at all .
Any time Willie Nelson sings or plays with you that means you made it.
Has to be an awesome feeling
Wow! Didn't notice the grand old legend Willie! Goodness me!
I miss this kind of music. The music today does not have the same harmony or lyrics. These were back when the lyrics had soul and meaning. Today's music all sounds the same.
Sydney, Australia in the house! This band such a huge part of my life! Thank you!
it's a shame this has only been viewed 1.1 Millon times I could put it on repeat!!!!
Dam..he can bring it..no matter who u are or what kinda music u like..this song hits home for all of us. For so many reasons.
Oh I remember going to this concert with my parents ...oh the joints were flowing!!
We don’t get music like this no more these days ❤
Touched my heart instantly! An Amazing performance, first time ever hearing of them, so inspired how I could feel hear and see the hurt and the acceptance from deep in his soul.
it's time for American Politicians to listen to the music...from a Canadian who grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas
When I heard this song, I looked up the lyrics. I went on to listen on repeat for hours. I lost the love of my life to bad choices and drugs when we were young. The story told in this song is exactly what we went thru. this will always be a special song to me. It took a long time to move on, and at times I never have. "If the sun comes up tomorrow, let her be" are how I feel now. The second verse, I've lived so many times.. amazing song, this is real song writing.
