I see this game is coming out for the Switch & I didn't even know it was already out years ago. On the website there is no gameplay & wanted to know what type of game it is. So seeing how it looks I'm still on the fence & wonder if the other trials games coming out will look like this?

not gonna lie, I literally squealed like a Schoolgirl when Estelle showed up in the Bracer Guild. My first thought was, unironically, 'oh my god, Estelle, I am your BIGGEST fan I played like 100 hours of your games'
With both Crossbell entries confirmed for Nintendo Switch, a compilation of the Trails in The Sky games would fit very well on Nintendo's hybrid console 🥳
@@HellFireRPGs The big problem with that is that GeoFront are merely the editors, building on an existing (but formerly extremely rough) fan translation with some of the people involved in that having dropped off the face of the earth. In order for a commercial company to use a fan work, the fans have to officially sign over ownership of their work to the publisher since legally a publisher cannot sell something they do not own. If one of the former team members would not want to do that, then their work would have to be stripped from the project and replaced. In commercial projects, team members declare their hours so project leads know exactly who did what, which makes a fair distribution of financial compensation possible. In fan teams, where members don't keep track of that, that's not possible. I guess you could still try to negotiate a compensation distribution between a group of 19 people, but... I personally have no idea how to resolve the issue if one of the members felt the proposal was unfair to them. Aside from, again, stripping their contribution from the game and replacing it, but again, who still remembers who did what? So with a commercial adoption of the fan translation not really possible, the only way for a commercial publisher to bring this game to the west would be to do the whole thing from scratch. And Zero's script is HUUUUGE. You've noticed it yourself; a massive city (plus two villages, plus a hospital, plus two border outposts) whose NPCs all change dialogue after every plot event. It's a massive project for a game that's on the technological level of a mid-budget PSP game. Even before a fan translation was made, XSeed (who did the Sky games and Cold Steel I and II) mentioned how these factors would probably mean they'd lose money on the localization and now that a fan translation IS out there, Falcom, NISA or any other publisher will assume that a significant part of the Trails fanbase won't buy the game right out the gate, but will wait for a big discount since they've already played the game previously. Which makes it an even bigger financial loss. And that's why the game hasn't been brought over yet.
Just played Zero and Azure for the first time a few weeks ago. Truly fantastic games. It’s a shame the hoops people have to hop through to play them. Like you said, though, the Geofront’s translation patch for Zero really was phenomenal, and it’ll be nice once they finish the patch for Azure. Luckily the existing translation for Azure really wasn’t too bad. I regret playing Cold Steel 3 without playing them first.
Geofront really did such a great job making such a fantastic experience more accessible. I'm pretty excited to hear your thoughts on Azure too! Who were your favourite characters coming out of Zero, out of curiosity?
Chapter 2 and absolutely loving this title. As a serious person, I identify with serious characters like Lloyd and actually enjoy this cast a bit more than sky, other than the epic Joshua (sasuke) plot.
Nice review! Its a shame you dont really like Lloyd. His character development gets better in Azure as well as the quartz system. Have fun playing Azure, allready looking forward to your review of it.
I like Lloyd, what makes you think I don't like him? But I do think that that Josh/Estelle were more interesting, though. I think I may be half way through Azure. Loving it so far :D
Also Cold Steel 3 is the best Cold Steel game out of the Ereboniaon arc from what has been officially being released to the west which ive played my opinion may change when i get my hands on Hajimari and Cold Steel 4
I'm confused. The Geofront did Zero (the first game) and that's what I reviewed. They are currently working on Ao. Nothing official from Falcom has been announced for either.
I was also a bit underwhelmed by the main antagonist of Zero. They felt like just a diet version of the main baddie of Trails SC, and when you get to the final dungeon the party remarks "wow look at this douche, he's just as bad as (SC Main Villain)!" which felt kinda forced since they were comparing a solid 5 to a 10
Sorry I can not stand j - Dub ..... So i definitely need a English release but still thx to that fan translation. But looks like it will be translated and release next year on epic store And i would really need a turbo mode because the battle animations are so slow :(
for me, the Antagonist thing could be said about the whole Legend of Heroes Series. I really HATE those infantile Ouroboros Clowns, showing up in EVERY installation of Trails of Cold Steel, spouting their stupid, self centered lines and - of course! - getting away at the end ("well, time is over!..."). I mean, come on! Mc. Burn, the Stahlritter, the Fool, the Phantom Thief... they all overstayed their welcome and, as a result, every time they show up and put me to sleep with their endless monologue - those are the worst parts in the Trails games BY FAR for me! sometimes I long for the more laid-back scenario and scale of Trails in the Sky 1. I seriously hope, they can take a step back from the overblown (and ridiculously overpowered) cast of Antagonist in the next part of the series. and, I know it`s vain hope, but please bury this whole Ouroboros-Travesty where it's the deepest. thank you!
I mean, they are literal random people gathered in a secret organization. Of course they have different motives and goal's especially when GM herself let them do what they want unless a high member like Weissman give them direction told by GM to achieve. Also by Hajimari there is few Ouroboros member than it used to be like in Sky FC-SC.

HIGHLY recommended you play or watch playthroughs of Zero and Ao before diving in to Hajimari no Kiseki.

Hajimari is where the Crossbell arc concludes, and CS4 sort of sets the start of it so you're all good to go now. :)
Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure are two best jrpg experiences I had in my entire 40 years life.

Zero is great, Ao is fantastic. It retroactively made zero better game for me. Still my favorite.

From what I hear, the PSP translation is horrid. Geofronts is basically perfect, so there's no comparison there.
Pc version of Azure with mods is very good and comes with translation fixes its almost good as the Geofront
