    replace the regular starch with undiluted sta-flo i used that on my cover and was throwing it at walls without it bending or losing shape at all

    Excellent resource for learning how to starch any (street, civilian) hat that's been made in this style. My teenaged son has a hat similar in looks to this hat - and it had white sweat stains around the brim so I hand-washed it and it looked great afterward - except that it completely lost it's shape!
    Soooo glad I found your video for re-shaping! Now I can get it fixed up before he sees it - and says, "WTG Mom, my hat is really clean but it looks ridiculous now!"

    When I was in the military we used heavy starch for uniforms for garrison use, many did, but would use different uniforms for the field

    I think sharp covers give a more disciplined and military appearance. That's what they did in the old days; starch their hats. Now a days people are like "oh it's just a cover, I don't care if it looks like smashed shit on my head, cuz it ain't supposed to be pretty." Yeah, you do that, and I'll keep starching mine, soldier.

      Xavier Cavalier you arent supposed to use it in the military becaude starch lights up under night vision. Using staff invalidates your cover for combat.

    I'm honestly more an eight pointed cover guy but I'm not gonna lie, patrol/fatigue caps don't look half bad when they are properly creased and shaped!

    It is a bit difficult finding the hat shaper (aside from the supplier online store). I plan to do this but with hair spray so it would still technically be in regs.

    40 years ago we left it wet and put the starch on with a 2 inch paint brush. We painted both sides of the top and the bill.

    I prefer a thin coating of Flex Seal. I can use it as a cover or canteen or a boat.

      The reasoning is actually not due to the starch itself it’s because the heat it takes to set the starch normally

    There are hats out there where they have already done this...it is permanently hard and perfect.

    Not really no, obviously since you'll be wearing it around everywhere you'll need to keep maintaining it to keep it looking sharp. However, there are hat inserts available for purchase that you can put inside of your cover to hold it's shape.

    I'm confused as to why everyone is freaking out about the starch. Yes it can be seen through night vision but only certain Air Force MOS' go into combat and even then wouldn't you wear a bonnie or helmet? Great video though my cover looks very sharp and professional.

      Every AFSC has the opportunity to go into combat when deployed, and everyone is susceptible to being deployed unless they’re on a waiver.

    You can buy inserts to make your cap 'stand up'. Starching the cap or any other ABU item is out of regs.

    I'd use hairspray on my BDU hat and it wouldn't fade like it would with canned starch or sta-flo. AquaNet is the best.

    If you ranger roll it in your cargo pocket, won’t it ruin the whole form of the PC? I’ve been trying to form mine like yourself, but I’m afraid that it will just ruin the whole form. Got any tips?

    And congrats Airman, your hat is officially out of regs, no part of the ABU (or OCP uniform these days) is supposed to be starched or heavily ironed.

      @@wadeo_0 the problem is people leave their uniforms balled up or on the floor, hell some airmen don't even regularly wash their uniforms, if you actually hang up your uniforms when you take them out of the dryer they look alright.

    I understand the feeling of being right and knowing the Air Force uniform regulations, but of course only a few should notify him. He must know the regulations since he is in the service.       Starch glows in the dark under Night Vision Optics not a very good idea . Even though I'm guilty of useing it to pass inspection :)

      If you are trying to make your uniform inspection perfect, you probably won't be using it for utility. Personally I have 2, one for utility, and one for inspection

    Well i never really thought about ironing our starching my 8 Point because you can't ware your Cover inside a building they tell you to put it inside your pocket than it gets bent wrinkled crushed and smushed and looks like shit anyway.
