"There's something strangely inconsistent about a nation and a press that will praise you when you say, Be non-violent toward Jim Clark, but will curse and damn you when you say, "Be non-violent toward little brown Vietnamese children."" And which one are we taught in school today when we learn about MLK and the 60s - the view that was praised, or the view that was cursed?

In times of great pain and confusion in this country, we must remember that courage and integrity moves people to greater times. The words of MLK must keep us grounded and purposeful at retaking our country back to the image in the liking of our founding fathers and visionary men like these. Keep your head up folks!
It is a real shame to read such foolish comments in regard to the awesome truth Dr. King has revealed in this speech. Instead of addressing such stupidity, I am so impressed with the character and courage of a real American that loved his country so much. We are a lost country and when the masses remain silent in face of tremendous disparity, between the rich and the poor, one can only hope that God's mercy stays with us. I will continue to share Dr. King's message of love and hope to others.
Great speech from a great legend! I teach high school writing, and one of the things we do is rhetorical analysis, using SAT Essays as examples. This speech is one of these examples. When you analyze the logos (logic, reasoning), ethos (credibility, trust), and pathos (emotional appeal) of this speech you really get an understanding and appreciation of WHY Dr. King was such a phenomenal speaker.
11:01 "And who are we supporting in Vietnam today? It's a man called General Ky, who fought with the French against his own people and said on one occasion that the greatest hero of his life is Hitler... Oh our government and the press generally won't tell us these these things, but God told me to tell you this morning. The truth must be told."
The truth must be told. He saw then what we still see today. I'm convinced that we must go through a revolution of values as well. I definitely agree with his stance on all of these issues. Anything less would be uncivilized.
This is one of the most powerfull speeches ever given. In 1967, Dr King was already analyzing the war in south-east asia in a way that "official" history has not caught up with yet (and most likely never will). Truely inspirational. The only sad part is that he deemed it necessary to pack political and human truths in religious terms in order to get his message across.
This speech rings loud in my ears in today’s world. 2024 as the US projects her power to protect her interests in the South China Sea, the Middle East, Ukraine and increasingly Northern Africa. The stage is slowly being set for large and widespread war, possibly WWIII. I ask every American, especially parents and guardians of middle and high school age children, look closely at what is happening in far away places and decide now, are you willing to bury your sons and daughters for whatever reason the military industrial complex provides? Will the drums of war beat to the sound of the “eradication of terrorism”? Will the banner of war be flown in the name of protecting Taiwan? I don’t know. I do know that the generals around the world are already sitting at the table drawing lines on maps. Lines that will be drawn in blood. And once again the war profiteers will fill their coffers with Tyne loot and treasure obtained through the wholesale slaughter of our nation’s sons and daughters and some foreign people who will be demonized by the juggernaut of the American propaganda machine. Critical thinking has never been more important than it is now.
America died in 1968 when MLK then RFK were assassinated. With their murders the CIA coup that began with JFK's murder was complete and America has been run by the CIA ever since.
I started drinking when I was 16. I would drink at parties, but I also started drinking alone because I was unhappy, and I was in a lot of emotional pain all the time. My mom was very aggressive when I was younger, and my brother hated her and so did I. He started hanging out with shady people, he started failing all his classes, he was never home, and my parents fought all the time. I also ran away several times. I was always trying to figure out a reason as to why I was here or what the purpose of life was. So, I started looking at different philosophies, religions, and beliefs. When I was 18 after I was hungover, I got on my knees and I prayed for the first time. I asked if God was real that he would show me he was real because I couldn’t take it anymore. I was crying when I prayed for this. At that moment I felt a presence come over me like a wind. It was barely noticeable, but it was unlike anything in my life I had experienced up until that point. I was surprised when I felt it and I remember saying “what was that?” after that experience I pretty much forgot what happened and kept partying, until my senior year when I got arrested. After my arrest, my parents lost all their trust in me and I was expelled from high school. I was told never to come back. At that time, I felt afraid and hopeless. That’s when I started looking for God, and I prayed that he would reveal himself in my life and that he would give me signs. My prayers began getting answered so consistently that I couldn’t deny that God was doing something. It was mysterious and compelling. I ended up in Church and started reading the bible hours a day. I stopped hanging out with all my other friends because they were continually getting arrested. I was able to forgive my family and myself and to ask to be forgiven. I noticed how at Church people were judgmental and how they formed cliques but were afraid to be around anyone else different from them. It increased my faith because I realized Jesus was not like that and ever since I was young, I saw people as people regardless of who they were. After a while, it’s like I could see God's presence was in my life and then it felt like he wasn’t, and then he was, and then he wasn’t. One day I woke up and felt more depressed than I ever have in my entire life. I felt like I was dying on the inside. That night I prayed, and I said, God, I don’t see my life five years from now I'm going to die Jesus save me Lord, please save me. I was weeping when I said it and when I asked him to save me, I felt a presence inside of me like a heartbeat, and I felt it once like a pulse, and I said Lord please save me and I felt it again even stronger. It was like radiance. When I woke up the next morning, I had transformed everything felt brand new like I was a kid again. All my fears and all my racing thoughts everything was gone. I looked at my hands, and I said this can’t be real it’s impossible. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I saw a different person. I started praying, and the holy spirit became entirely real to me it was washing over me and inside of me. It was total love and peace, and I heard a voice but not an audible one, it was an inner voice. It said I am with you; I love you, I will never leave you, it’s done it’s finished. That was May 3rd, 2009, and ever since then I’ve followed God, I have seen many things change and many things I know wouldn’t have changed without faith and belief. I know what it’s like to be lost to feel you have no hope. Don’t ever think you’re stuck, or life can’t change because it can. My mom is a Christian now, Its night and day. Some of the things that went away during that period were severe anxiety and my addiction to alcohol. I’ve seen and experienced so many things that are miraculous and seen how God has worked in my life. When we ask God to forgive us for what we’ve done and turn away from our sins and wrongdoings and we believe in Christ's sacrifice everything changes. His word says if we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that he died and rose again we will have eternal life but not just life after death but abundant life in the present. Our sins are erased not only past, present, and future but our burdens and fears are lifted also. Our thoughts, our minds, our hearts, our souls are transformed and united with God and we know his spirit lives in us. If you seek, pray, and knock you will know JESUS IS KING!!! HE LIVES!
Martin Luther King Jr had such a way to speak and to write, I read most a lot of different of essays written by him, and wow i am so impress on the way he writes. He was such a admirable person.
If we had but listened to him at that time. The government would not be out of control today. And endless wars and Transnational corporations wouldn't be running out lives.
Everyone remembers "I have a dream" and "I've been to the mountaintop". The sermon he gave at Riverside Church in New York City on April 4, 1967 - one year to the day before he died - is the most important of his life. It marked the moment he came out publicly against the war in Vietnam. Here's a link to listen to it in its entirety: ruclips.net/video/b80Bsw0UG-U/видео.html
there was a time i would have responded to ignorance and hate with more ignorance and hate but over the years and after associating with people of moral fiber and listening to this MAN i have grown. i now realize that the good news is for all men! and i thank GOD for Christ. yes, the ignorant that stoop to name calling too!
Greatest speech i've ever heard and truly inspiring. The will of god is to love every human being regardless of any petty excuse one can come up with, and it seems that king is one of the people who truly understands that.
I am so glad youtube was created. I have learned more from watching youtube videos... then I have learned through all my years in school. Just today, I watched Martin Luther King, Ron Paul, Milton friedmon, and Thomas Sowell. An hour worth of videos that teach you more about Economics, Politics, and Liberty... then you will learn in a semester of College.
these are dark times in our history, when high level authorities, will seek to use every method to silence dissent, but something is happening, and people are not going to be silenced, the truth must be told. To all of you who were ridiculed and insulted, and none the less voted for change.
Martin would not take such a position . Why would a Righteous Black Man with such an celestial scope & influential platform , somehow find it feasible to sustain the Imperialistic nature of white supremacy/zionism . That would be anti Revolutionary .
Dr King made it perfectly clear, he wanted nothing to do with politics. I can’t say the same for his DEMOCRAT counterparts, who all became lifetime politicians. Needless to say, they served themselves, rather than the people. Up to an including John Lewis., they were all a waist of a March to Selma; They were all self serving and worthless!
@@6ix4our86 Well you really need people outside the system who can be a voice of conscience, a voice not compelled to enter the sometimes sordid compromises and double dealing that is part of political life
Obama is only a figurehead. Although I am not an American and I am an atheist, Dr. King's speeches bring tears into my eyes and encourage me to try to be a better person. He was truly one of the greatest men of the past century. People UNITE! Greetings from the Czech republic.
I think we all need to take a part and do all that we can do to fight for right peacefully, Only together can we make a difference. Black and white, Arab and Buddhist, we should all work together combining all that is good in our cultures and teachings, and work unitedly to solve the problems in the world. Dr. King's views on the war in Vietnam together with Ghandi's views on peaceful resistance are the kind of views that can change the world. We can fight for peace on the internet with info.
I wish I could hear this man speak. It is amazing to hear words from an honest man and among the greatest men in American history. I really wish I could have been there to hear him.
You must know that this video edited out the most powerful line of the whole speech. at 19:25 he actually says: (cut section marked by brackets) "Don't let anybody make you think that God made America as his divine Messianic force to be a sort of policeman for the whole world. God has a way of standing before the nations with judgment and it seems that I can hear God saying to America, you're too arrogrant [and if you don't change your ways, I will rise up and break the backbone of your power and place it in the hands of a nation that doesn't even know my name. Be still and know that I'm God.] Now it isn't easy..." smh.
He was a global intellectual. He will always be my hero. This is a lane that he was not supposed to be in? The power structure expected him to stay in his black preacher and civil rights lanes. Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael) stated that he did not know that Dr. King was going to speak out this strong regarding Vietnam. Dr. King listened to the young people expressing their concerns about America's hypocrisy when it came to Vietnam and black people's struggles in this country. When he stated that this government was the “greatest purveyor of violence in the world,” it made him public enemy #1 to the power structure in Washington. President LBJ reportedly remarked “What is that goddamned n word preacher doing to me?" Lastly, replace Vietnam in this speech for Iraq or Afghanistan and one will find how relevant this speech is today!
This was a man of peace, justice and true vision. This is my favorite of all his speeches. Dr. King, how I wish you were alive today. We need your wisdom morethan ever before.
Ho Chi Min was in Paris in 1919 an brought home with him thousands of copies of the US constitution translated into Vietnamese. Ho Chi Min loved America. He loved the idea of the American revolution. America, however, still did not love non-whites governed by whites (the French) and so when Ho Chi Min asked America for help getting independence from France he was told that Americans valued race more than principle. Ho Chi Min only turned to Moscow for the liberation of his people because they were the only world power willing to help him after America told him to go screw. On a side note ... there is nothing wrong with communism. Unless you own vast properties, resources and companies, being anti-communist is a synonym for the word fool.
Ho Chi Minh belonged to the French Communist Party in the 1920s. He got along well with his American assistants from the OSS. They liked him and each had mutual trust. To call Ho Chi Minh a democrat is false. He was a Marxist-Leninist. The US needed France in Europe. We sold out the Vietnamese.
"On a side note ... there is nothing wrong with communism. Unless you own vast properties, resources and companies, being anti-communist is a synonym for the word fool." Communism failed because building socialism failed. The Party abandoned its role as vanguard of the proletariat, took upon itself special privileges and prosperity. Leonid Brezhnev had a fleet of cars. Mao had a harem. The verdict on the USSR was rendered in 1991. The USSR signed off. China abandoned socialism in the 1980s. The only hold outs are Cuba and North Korea. Both are family governments. Nothing wrong with communism? Doesn't even exist.

The same people did him are the same ones behind the nwo and the rest of this police state type violence and mayhem going on now among the masses.
wow!.....this man died being non violent and telling the truth....
Today, based on what is going on both nationally and internationally we are bearing witness to the results of that situation.
You are right. The past does tend to repeat itself when the root of the problem is not dealt with. The past may take on a different form and may possibly look similar, but the root remains the same. It's sad and maddening to see.
Dr.King knew it as it was. His. heart was full of love. He saw the good.Blessings always.
Its been almost half a century...and this man's words are so RELEVENT to our world today...why has nothing changed
I am a grown man and cry like a little girl every time I listen to this man. I was 3 years old when he was assassinated.
I love his voice, it's so soothing. Thank you Mr King, we still have a lot to learn. x
I love this speech. I don't know how many times I've listened to it. Dr. King, you are my idol.
"There's something strangely inconsistent about a nation and a press that will praise you when you say, Be non-violent toward Jim Clark, but will curse and damn you when you say, "Be non-violent toward little brown Vietnamese children.""
And which one are we taught in school today when we learn about MLK and the 60s - the view that was praised, or the view that was cursed?
JIM CROW NOT JIM CLARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@TroiJupiter Hey this guy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Clark_(sheriff)
Happy 83rd, had this great man lived. An incredible man. An incredible inspiration to me and to so many others. Please listen to this timeless speech. A senseless killing. But his words, his actions, and his example, will never die. Thank you Dr. King!
i've never heard words so powerfully moving before, this man is the greatest ever. God, he's so right and it matchs our world today so perfectly still.
thank you for this amazing speech, his kind of courage, the courage of Christ, surely elevated him to heavenly realms, thank you Dr. King, may you rest in peace...
2017 ...we still remember you martin....
You just made it boring. It's about cadence and sincerity
Thank you " Non-Corporate News " for sharing this post. God Bless You.
This is one of the most powerfull speeches ever given. In 1967, Dr King was already analyzing the war in south-east asia in a way that "official" history has not caught up with yet (and most likely never will). Truely inspirational. The only sad part is that he deemed it necessary to pack political and human truths in religious terms in order to get his message across.
i will always loveyou martin luther king you will always be powerful
Critical thinking has never been more important than it is now.
what a man, what a legend. we need more like him..especially today. RIP MLK, you still inspire.
Here's a link to listen to it in its entirety:

people remember one or two phrases from those speeches. They ignore most of the message in those speeches as well.
So true.
he did not just die he was murdered.
Preach Dr. King
there was a time i would have responded to ignorance and hate with more ignorance and hate but over the years and after associating with people of moral fiber and listening to this MAN i have grown. i now realize that the good news is for all men! and i thank GOD for Christ. yes, the ignorant that stoop to name calling too!
God Bless Martin Luther King Jr. With Graceful And Very Meaningful Words You Just Shared To Everyone. 💖
So powerful and such great, timeless truths come at the close of his speech!
Every time I hear him I tear up.
A master of words...
I wish the Cowards in Government, both in the US and Britain, had heeded this
YES AND IN THE SOVIET UNION, CUBA, NORTH VIETNAM, NORTH KOREA, EAST GERMANY, ANGOLA, ECT
would've been a great president
Martin would not take such a position . Why would a Righteous Black Man with such an celestial scope & influential platform , somehow find it feasible to sustain the Imperialistic nature of white supremacy/zionism . That would be anti Revolutionary .
Except that he wasn't a politician. He was too truthful in his speech to be a politician
@@keepthechange1 Like you would know
@@6ix4our86 Well you really need people outside the system who can be a voice of conscience, a voice not compelled to enter the sometimes sordid compromises and double dealing that is part of political life
Obama is only a figurehead.
It's an amazing speech. I especially love it from 19:00 to the end.
Sounds like nothing has really changed since this speech
nope.
The more things change, the more they stay the same, and in fact, worsen.
Thanks to whoever brought forth Dr Martin Luther King. his speeches any day any time, Its
I wish I could hear this man speak.
Please explain this missing line it sounds powerful but i dont quite understand

R.I.P Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ❤️🙏🏽
So disturbing and deeply upsetting that his words ring truer today than when he spoke them.
His rythm & tone of his voice alone make me tremble in my chair, a man amongst men.
We need you in 2021.The wisdom is needed…
Amazing!
Also i hope it's alright i used this speech for my ''Rising Storm: Vietnam'' video? :)
A true example to everyone who believes in love and justice.

The speech that mark dr. King for death from the government.
Fear not death for a righteous man will die but once, but the wicked shall suffer a thousand deaths.
Martin Luther King has great understanding, of Gods WILL!!!!!
toinette jones shut your mouth!
Unless you own vast properties, resources and companies, being anti-communist is a synonym for the word fool."
Communism failed because building socialism failed.
These words put me in awe. Thank you for all you stand for Dr. King.
Steve Hunter, thank you brother!! I could add to what you say, but why? You were on point!!! I personally get excited listening to this speech EVERY TIME I play it, for years now! Thank you brother! Shalom!
