Obviously they raced at a lot of other places besides Le Mans. The point I'm making is that for all the high speeds they reached there, they still had to be able to race competitively on circuits like Brands Hatch or Dijon to Spa to Fuji and Sandown. Think for a minute about the differences and yet the car needed to be able to be adapted to all of them. For sure the power and speed of the thing is probably the most impressive aspect but the agility and the fact that Southgate was able to design such a small chassis around such a huge engine will always amaze me.
What an iconic car, what a good beginning to a new series! If the other episodes are anything like this, I will start watching this channel more again!
I work there and was literally stood looking at it with eyes like saucepans for about 15 minutes today. Awesome car, at the moment it's sat next to the original concept car and to see them both together is phenomenal
I don't think Rupert Murdoch, Jeremy Clarkson etc are willing to pump much more money into the channel. I'm guessing they thought that Jethro and Henry's videos would launch it with a bang but people soon disappeared once they were let go. I like this video but I won't hold my breath waiting for regular, decent content...
My favorite race car ever built.....ever! I watched the Castrol GTP Big Cats at the Camel GT when I was a kid. That’s when my love started. Now I have a shrine for them in my sim racing simulator room. They represent everything cool about motorsports, endurance racing and Group C.
This video shows the personal connection we all share with cars. A toy from childhood nurturing a love for a vehicle which, 30 years later, you finally get the chance to see in person. More like this please.
This is at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon. Well worth a visit. When I was there in the summer they got the D type out and revved it up - that was loud!
My favourite toy car growing up is the one behind you at the start - the XJ220. You're at the British Motor Museum - there is such a great collection there.
The XJR-9 is easily one of my all-time favourite Le Mans winning cars alongside Mazda's 787B, Peugeot's mighty 905 and the thundering Sauber Mercedes C9
I was at the 1000km of Brands Hatch in 1988,and I recall two of these driving past me together at Clearways. Martin Brundle,Andy Wallace and John Nielsen were the drivers of the No 1 and winning car,and Jan Lammers and Johnny Dumfries were the drivers of the No 2 XJR-9. They were so loud,I thought my ears were going to bleed !
Just awesome. Fantastic piece of kit from the best era of endurance racing, in my opinion. Lots of info in only 8 minutes but I could watch a video on this car's history for 8 hours!
Yup...I had a bunch of 16th scale model car that I literally played with all day, every day when I was a kid...an F40, an older classic Ferrari, a Porsche GT1, etc. My parents also got me an epic Tamiya RC car for my 8th birthday...the body it came with was the Mercedes C11 (which I just found out they RE-RELEASED!!!) and, after it got beat to death, I got another body for it that I THINK was this. This generation and class of car will ALWAYS be some of the most gorgeous cars ever made as far as I'm concerned.
Great video. Looking forward to this series! Gran Turismo taught me about this car and even with such little car knowledge at the time you could tell it was something special
The rear wing on the Le Mans version was set the way it was so that it could interact with the flow of air from under the car. In this position, it almost worked like a two element wing with the flow of air over the bodywork and under the wing causing undertray to become more efficient and improving the L/D. It was basically a different way of making a low drag package for Le Mans. Others like Porsche and Sauber used longer tails with less wing camber to achieve that. It was an extremely clever piece of design.
Allen Saunders like a 5speed Maunel transmission sitck shift transmission model wroon engine sound 50l V12 engine so you beautiful car design and engine sound like a 4cyllder engine sound
At LeMans all Jag fans loved the Mazda when it went past you you could feel your eardrums actually move inwards! Happy days. Imagine falling asleep in the camp site in the middle of the circuit hearing all these different cars ( you could tell a Porsche from a Jag or Mazda) going down the Mulsanne straight with no chicanes in 88
Great video, (in episode 2) would be awesome to see this car on a lift to see the magic that goes on underneath. Sod Ferrari, we make better V12s, that's proper British beef right there and still with the iconic cigarette livery looking timeless. Hope you guys keep making good content instead of really short almost teaser videos that leave you wanting more.
The Group C / GTP cars will, I think, forever be my favorite racecars. I'd be really interested in a video on the Toyota Gurney Eagle II or Nissan GTP ZX cars.
fw1421 bro! I just received from the widow of a man named Robert O’Brien Jr., a private investor in this car. for an Xmas gift, a poster from the 1985 lemans with the car on it, chip driving it, and signed all over the place by Bob Tullius and Chip, and one inscription reads “to Robert, 225 down the Mulsanne Straight was easy after a scary ride in your 120!” It was a gift he left to me after I worked on their house, and we got to know each other shortly before his death.
Not sure where this guys from, but he did a good job and made an enjoyable vid[he totally creamed his pants when firing up that beast] amazing car and sound.. more please!! 80's racing cars were crzy cool.. F1, rally and sports car.. all good to see!!
240+ MPH out of 700bhp and 615lbft...really goes to show you the power (pun intended) of minimizing weight and optimizing aero. Really is amazing. I have a GT-R that does over 800whp and ~660wtq on full tilt yet I don't see it going 240+ any time soon. Hahaha (Though, hearing the stats for this car DOES kinda make me wonder what it COULD do...hmmm...)
Holy hell! The sound of that V-12 when it fires up is no joke. That engine is ready to raise hell.
Haha if you activate the automatic subtitles, when the engine starts, it says "Music" ! Even the AI appreciates thouroughbred engines music :)
Yeah i didnt actually expect him to start it. Volume was quite up i found out.
I miss cars like that, you feel something when you fire that bad boy up
Group C cars are some of best looking cars to race Le Mans.
Obviously they raced at a lot of other places besides Le Mans. The point I'm making is that for all the high speeds they reached there, they still had to be able to race competitively on circuits like Brands Hatch or Dijon to Spa to Fuji and Sandown. For sure the power and speed of the thing is probably the most impressive aspect but the agility and the fact that Southgate was able to design such a small chassis around such a huge engine will always amaze me.
They're the best imo
100%...you seen the Superlite SL-C or the Ultima Evo? Basically street-legal versions of cars like this!!
Tom Walkinshaw was brilliant as a driver, as an engineer and as a team manager.
Look at that beautiful V12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder what would happened if you punched it? 🤔
Awesome video man, more pls!
Your hand would probably hurt.
Pls no puncherino jimmer.
Jimmy Broadbent I'm sure I saw you driving one of these round spa the other day....
Have you driven this one round the Nurburgring yet Jimmy? :-)
Rumour has it, it ripped your head off and threw you around in a rage before setting you on fire and eating you.
What an iconic car, what a good beginning to a new series! If the other episodes are anything like this, I will start watching this channel more again!
Keep your eyes peeled Jeremy...
That beast of a v12
Great video. Cannot stop looking at that XJ220 in the background though.
I work there and was literally stood looking at it with eyes like saucepans for about 15 minutes today. Awesome car, at the moment it's sat next to the original concept car and to see them both together is phenomenal
A great insight - I remember growing up and seeing this car in toy form... Mike grinning ear to ear - a childhood dream come true! 4:55
I like this series allready!
Are you planning to do the Sauber Mercedes C9? That would be awesome!
Keep up the good work 👍
*"Episode 01"*
Does this mean D_TRB will finally return to it's former glory? - releasing good, quality content on a regular basis.
I can't wait *:)*
Nice video and a nice presenter. His enthusiasm rubs off.
Excellent...! From our experience, we love the XJ220! Now feature that next.
My favorite race car ever built.....ever! I watched the Castrol GTP Big Cats at the Camel GT when I was a kid. That’s when my love started. Now I have a shrine for them in my sim racing simulator room. They represent everything cool about motorsports, endurance racing and Group C.

We didn’t know it at the time....but it was as good as it was ever going to get....in all arenas of Motorsport
Wonderful video!
This is at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon. Well worth a visit. When I was there in the summer they got the D type out and revved it up - that was loud!

Nice Video Drive tribe,, finally,,,
waiting for episode 2....
This was a historic moment, as a normally aspirated car took victory at Le Mans amongst turbocharged opposition.
ikr so cool
The beginning of Mikes car presenting journey, well done Mike.
An Eyewitness book - The Ultimate Race Car - brought me here.
The Jag XJR-9 is one of the most badass machine I've ever known about.
The XJR-9 is easily one of my all-time favourite Le Mans winning cars alongside Mazda's 787B, Peugeot's mighty 905 and the thundering Sauber Mercedes C9
What a great video. I was absolutely smitten with that thing the first time I saw it on ye olde fashioned telly box. What a machine.
I love that era of endurance racing
Bloody hell, that's noice!
Keep it up, guys!
Just awesome. Fantastic piece of kit from the best era of endurance racing, in my opinion. Lots of info in only 8 minutes but I could watch a video on this car's history for 8 hours!
Stunning production

What an era! What a car!
We were there at Le Mans when it won, fabulous machines.
That car is so Awesome
He did say "piss flaps" didn't he??😂
yep I had to rewind to make sure hehe
Awesome episode, Drivetribe is the absolute pinnacle of motoring journalism :)
What an awesome story and what an amazing looking car
And now, from every race fan who remembers those years. comes a heavy sigh.
quite simply,THE most gorgeous stunning group c car ever made, with the Le Mans win under it's belt to boot.
What a great idea for a series. Thanks.
4:22 He's a happy chappie...!!
Great video. Looking forward to this series! Gran Turismo taught me about this car and even with such little car knowledge at the time you could tell it was something special
The Invisible Deity has blessed some of us with being alive during the time this car was racing. Thank you Mr Invisible Deity. Thank You!
My favorite car model when growing up? Anything with group c smells, especially 80's era
4:16 personal button
We need more episodes like this!
Awesome work by DT!
Oh man, that X306 racing livery XJR, though.
Wait... That's a fire car? Holy shit.
Silverstone Sid
Excellent presentation from Mike. That engine sound!
Excellent video. Never knew the car but seriously appreciate those machines.
Yes
Glorious sound. And at speed? Forget about it.
I remember sitting in that monster as an employee at Bloxham. Amazing vehicle
Awesome video. Can't wait for episode 2!
Super vid. Godlike car. Thanks for going in depth - fascinating the lengths they went to in that era.
What a beautiful machine!
Utter brilliance.

Oh yes. More please.
Great review many thanks
I love your work with the Racing Shed Boi I hope for more in the future! 🤘
Has this channel reinvented itself i hope started off great then died. Are you back or is this one good episode
Allen Saunders like a 5speed Maunel transmission sitck shift transmission model wroon engine sound 50l V12 engine so you beautiful car design and engine sound like a 4cyllder engine sound
I would love to see a breakdown like this on the Mazda 787B, probably a much harder thing to do considering it lives in Japan.
Yes. An absolute ripper of a car. This Mazda, Jaguar and this red Toyota are 3 of my all favourite cars ever
At LeMans all Jag fans loved the Mazda when it went past you you could feel your eardrums actually move inwards! Happy days. Imagine falling asleep in the camp site in the middle of the circuit hearing all these different cars ( you could tell a Porsche from a Jag or Mazda) going down the Mulsanne straight with no chicanes in 88
Loved this thank you.
1:41 Lol, mirrored video :P Forgot to get a reverse angle shot of the car, didja?
Yeah, that's pretty amateurish
That was quite good. Looking forward to more "In Detail" in the future.
It would be good to see someone dig deep into the XJR development, with things like the 'sprint' bodywork and short-lived 48v iterations
Watching this in my work car (smart car dont judge me) and as soon as he started the engine my speakers was about to explode 🤣🙈
Yes !! Let's get some content going then guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Wonderful video! Keep it up!
The Group C / GTP cars will, I think, forever be my favorite racecars. I'd be really interested in a video on the Toyota Gurney Eagle II or Nissan GTP ZX cars.
top vid , keep up the good work
Wonderful Monster
Awesome!! More like this please :)
3:22
"Piss flaps."
Top video. Top car. Gold Gold and Gold! 👍👍
One of my favorites! I wish Bob Tulius’s Group44 Group C racer would have done better too.
RIP Johnny D. My bro met him a few times....both are now in the next life.....miss you bro
please do a detail of the Panoz GTR-1
or Panoz's 'Sparky'
More of this, please. :)
Well done video, but why is the image mirrored at 1:42 ?
probably just looked wrong to have it spin in the other direction.
Great work Mikey. Wish I had a job like yours! Uncle Gary xx
I would be perfectly ok with this whole channel just being Jaguar Group C videos.
Not sure where this guys from, but he did a good job and made an enjoyable vid[he totally creamed his pants when firing up that beast]
amazing car and sound.. more please!! 80's racing cars were crzy cool.. F1, rally and sports car.. all good to see!!
Ive come here 5 times to hear that guy say imagine that for 24 hours!
Fantastic... Can you guys do more videos on classic motorsport?
Thanks for the great video but please share much more videos from Le Mans Legendaries for us. I hope this video is the beginning of this series
I want a CX75 with silk cut retro livery to go from point a to point b on a daily basis
Awesome
Great episode. One of those classic brutal Le Mans car & a car Gran Turismo helped make me a fan of.
P.S.6:34-6:35 weird effect. Was that intentional?
This has got to be at Don Law Racing
kernplace37 Nope, I think it’s the National Motor Museum at Gaydon in the workshop where they do all the classics up.
Great video. All lmp1's should now have V12's! Lol :)
1:41 mirror image; why? Great video!
Hahaha
(Though, hearing the stats for this car DOES kinda make me wonder what it COULD do...hmmm...)
Bravo....can we do one about the Sauber Mercedes C9?
how is that rear wing actually do anything since its the lower surface that actually produces downforce?
Nice color correction)
Can I suggest the Bentley Speed 8 as a future episode?
Valparaiso Indiana.
Never knew it got stuck in 4th!
