Maybe if they had an actual reward for winning like money in the in season tournament they’d try but they don’t. It’s not that they’re bummy it’s that the NBA isn’t trying to get them to try and it’s not the players fault makes total sense to try and not get hurt

Even at AAU and college showcase we were taught to have a plan for skills challenges. This is becoming like soccer in Europe, young kids are paid too much money too soon and literally drop the ball.
