A good distraction was the magazine in backwards on that AR frame
I had that happen to me while skiing. There is no feeling like looking down and seeing 3 inches of your own leg bone sticking out of your ski pants. Quite the rush.
Gnarly dude! As a ski patroller I hope you got some fentanyl
The last part of the video always inspires me. “You never know when you’re going to be the first responder.” Everyone should watch these videos, it could save someone’s life.
Had one of those. Just above my wrist. Radius and ulnar rode above the part below. I immediately grabbed my hand and stored to straight best I could. A friend made a splint out of my sweatshirt til I got to the ER. We stabilized it immediately. Had surgery and bones knitted perfectly back with the plate. But it was ugly with bones sticking up under the skin.
Great explanation of distracting injuries.
I would love to see a video of how you would splint this. I’ve never thought of splinting this low on the leg without it being the ankle.
According to all sources I can find - compound fractures are open fractures. They are not defined by the more than one bone being broken - its an opening in the skin.
I think you meant combined.
Great catch, I used the wrong terminology. I apologize!
Not to pick nits, but is that mag backwards in the lower left?
Glad someone else noticed it
1:07 Hang on, isn't a compound fracture just another term for an open fracture, where bone protrudes through the skin?
Shoot I was wrong on the terminology.
Great info. Want to get back down to see you and take another class with you. Hope the family is doing well.
That Thumbnail photo is cringe worthy! Ugh!! 😝
@SkinnyMedic amazing video, could you please make a video on different ways to carry patients whether it be an emergency in the wild or extracting someone from a vehicle, I see there is not a lot of demonstrations on this, have a good one 👍
Great video! Is the mag in backwards on the rifle in the left of the screen?!
I had open broke of my leg on the Battlefield, wery painful thnik.
Sorry if my question is too elementary. I do not understand why you would splint the knee and ankle if the tibia and fibula was broken. If anything, I would think "yes, I need 2 SAM splints, but for both sides of the break." Can you make a part 2 of this?
Hey mate. Have you heard of CellAED? I've just come across it, interesting product - a compact AED design and it's much cheaper than alternatives, although it is one-time-use and requires replacement after 2 years which I guess is why it's affordable. Of course not what you'd pick in a professional setting, but I'm very tempted given the size makes it genuinely EDC'able in a work bag. Seems to have the right certifications, would be interested in your take on it? Great or gimmick? Thanks!
When can we look forward to another podcast?
Thanks, very helpful.
FINALLY! something useful!! Enough with the constant tournequets and chest seals.... ....
Welcome …
Thanks!
I’ve seen my foot almost 90 degrees out of kilter folded to the inside before. This video made my blood run cold for a second. Good times.
Useful as always, thanks.
Good stuff SM.
