This band is essentially the definition of diverse. Just before this album, they released a poppy folk album. Later this month, they're releasing a progressive techno album. Just about anything you want, they have it. If you want a real show of their diversity, Gumboot Soup shows that fairly well. It was their last of _5_ albums in 2017 alone. It's not story driven, just a bunch of songs that didn't fit on other albums, but not really a "rejected songs" album. It also has vocals from the other members.
Yo I literally just listened to this yesterday Recs: Sigur ros-() Spiritualized-Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space Built to spill-Perfect from now on
YOOOOOO finally we got to KGLW, I hope this is just the start of a full discography reaction, the best thing about King Gizz is discovering how much genres they explore, if you ask me I'll say a few recomendations: Polygondwanaland if you want a progressive experience full of polyrhythms Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava for a full jammy rock with a lot of fusion jazz record Flying Microtonal Banana for getting into microtonal music Murder of the Universe/I'm In Your Mind Fuzz if you still want more psych/surf rock (if you enjoy the lyrics, you'll love the first one of those) Petrodragonic Apocalypse if you want Thrash Metal Omnium Gatherum if you want variety, it's a record of songs that didn't fit into other albums' concepts
If you want one of my fave Gizz, go for Murder of the Universe (2016). It's like three little low budget short film vignettes back-to-back, Horror, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, but in auditory form. They released 5 albums that year, 3 of which are certified hood classics, Murder of the Universe, Flying Microtonal Banana, and Polygondwanaland.
Been listening to gizz for almost a decade now and saw them live in Stockholm for the first time ever in march this year, got goosebumps as soon as they started evil death roll and still think about the whole set today
I know I already commented when this was first uploaded, but in my experience Spotify ALWAYS fucks the transition from Road Train to Robot Stop. RUclips Music does as well, but only when I actually press the loop button. I have to queue up the entire album for the loop to be seamless instead of pressing the loop button. Not sure if its the same on Spotify though.
If you make a poll for another King Gizzard album, I'd suggest their 2014 album called Paper Mâché Dream Balloon. It's so fun and one of their best :) (But I'd understand if other people pick another one by them)
Your spotify lagged a bit I think but yes it transitions back perfectly into the first track, making it an infinite loop of 9 nine songs: Nonagon Infinity
Probably one of their fuzziest and distorted albums but it is a great entry point to the Gizz rabbit hole. Some good follow-ups I believe would be "I'm in Your Mind Fuzz" which was kind of like a precursor to Nonagon, their newest album "PetroDragonic Apocalypse", progressive heavy metal, and "Gumboot Soup", an album consisting of various genres that highlights their versatility and musicianship. Some honorable mentions would be "Infest The Rat's Nest"' their thrash album, "Flying Microtonal Banana" their first foray into microtonal desert rock, and "Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava", psychedelic rock and fusion jazz.
nice, you should continue chronologically with their 2017 albums and then go back to their earlier albums like paper mache dream balloon or im in your mind fuzz
Super sound and energy, thanks for the tip! And if you want to follow up with some great guitars (but a bit more calm, sometimes with strings and piano)➤ Suede - Dog Man Star.
In my personal opinion, this is one of KGATLW’s most OVERRATED albums. Now I don’t use overrated much because I can always see why an album would be popular, but this album is just so repetitive to me. I think “I’m In Your Mind Fuzz” is a much better album overall, same with “Float Along - Fill Your Lungs” and Ice Death. Thanks for this review though homie but I’m my honest opinion I think you’ll connect to their other albums 🙏🙏💯💯
Fun fact: They have two drummers not just with this album, but most of their earlier work. One of the drummers owns the record label they are under. Can I recommend either Polygondwanaland, Murder of the Universe, Flying Microtonal Banana, or I'm In Your Mind Fuzz for your next listen? Infest the Rat's Nest if you're into metal tribute. Yeah.
This is no longer true. Eric left the band about 4 years ago, and the band have since moved on from Flightless. For a few years they self-released everything, and earlier this year they started a new record label; p(doom) records.
If people vultures was one of your favorites, I recommend the second disk of their album Murder of the Universe. That consists of the songs 'Some Context' through 'The Acrid Corpse' and everything in-between. Its 6 songs total. That album is my personal favorite
It does transition back to the first song! 9 songs = nonagon, and the infinity is the infinite loop of the songs going into one another without stopping.
Ah man Spotify screwing up that loop from road train back to the first track was one of the most unsatisfying things ever! It is supposed to be a perfect loop, 9 tracks that endlessly loop: Nonagon Infinity. But loved this reaction/review and would love to see more KGLW reactions especially to PolygondWanaland or Petrodragonic Apocalypse!
I saw them while they were touring for this album in the courtyard of the Hardrock Hotel in Vegas. The lead singer, Stu, crowd surfed from the stage to the pool in the courtyard then crowd surfed back to the stage, very fun show. Also, its been suggested a few times already but here's another 'Please check out Yo La Tengo'. Almost everything they've released is great but And then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out, is probably the fan favorite album.
People Vultures is great, I don’t listen to it that much but that melody comes back occasionally and it’s really catchy. I think the non- part is 9, since there’s 9 tracks and 9 pointed star in the album cover. Id almost guarantee apocalypse is a theme of nonagon infinity. The end of the world, and environmentalist messaging is pretty common in their music. I’d definitely take a look at Polygondwanaland, maybe I’m in Your Mind Fuzz, and then K. G. or L. W.
you should check out Thee Oh Sees. My favorite band in the entire world and they're known to be somewhat similar to Gizz in a few ways. I personally recommend their albums Mutilator Defeated At Last or Orc, but Floating Coffin is normally a good place to start with them. Face Stabber is also amazing
"I love my Bongos" and "Is this 4/4?" lmao. Great reaction. These guys are incredible, and you started at their best, luckily all their other albums are in different genres all potentially being their best in that sound.
Definitely check out Infest The Rats Nest and PetroDragonic Apocalypse for their heavy sound. All their songs are repetitive and so catchy. Butterfly 3000 is their synthy dance poppy album, a blast to listen to as well. Enjoy!
These guys commonly use hell and/or the apocalypse as an allegory for global warming or other practices that generally hurt the environment, so any time you see that in their music (which will be often if you dive deeper into their catalog) then you’ll know that’s what they’re getting at
Gotta see a reaction to Ice, death, planets, lungs, mushrooms and lava next. Big ups with the channel, enhoyable reactions and personality. Heres to you Mrs Robinson
Baddest band in all the land. A must see live experience. Get on their mailing list and you can get the tickets cheap before the scalpers get them. Their shows are pretty much all selling out these days
I think that "Mr. Beat" is about tripping on acid for the first time, like missing a beat is "tripping up", and the verses are some of that lovely King Gizz psychedelic imagery
Joanna Newsom - Ys, Have One On Me , Divers Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues, Selftitled Father John Misty - Pure Comedy, I love you honeybear. The Microphones - Mount Eerie Swans - The Glowing Man, The Seer.
Sinner Get Ready by Lingua Ignota is such a fantastic experience. She's also releasing a new project under the name Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter called SAVED!
every gizz album is like completely different, the album they did right before nonagon was a folk album, and their last album was thrash metal, and the album before that was jazz rock/prog and their next album will be electronic(ish)
i just listened to this for the first time on the way home from thanksgiving dinner. your timing is insane. you should react to purple rain by prince if you haven't heard it. its easily one of my favorite albums.
Cool reactions, bro. From what I've seen now, you'd probably enjoy Polygondwanaland! Although I agree with people suggesting I'm in your mind fuzz as well. Can't go wrong with those. Cheers!
It is supposed to transition to the first track btw. And yeah, the album cover is a nonagon but notice there are also 9 tracks that infinitely loop. There’s definitely some occult themes on the album. They’re not a satanic band or anything, though. They just use vaguely fantastical/mythical lyrics for fun (and there are other mentions of Satan on some albums).
nothing like king gizz!! Here are the recs again Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it In People LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On
Oh man, the Gizz rabbit hole is vast. They’re about to release their 25th album this month. This is a great place to start in their discography.
Love gizz and love your pfp
you have great taste my friend, love that pfp
This entire album is an infinite loop which is sick af. And the title follow suit

25?!

Every album at least good all sound different 👍
And they’re still going, got one coming up later this month, the bootlegs keep coming, the tours keep coming, it’s good to be a gizz fan

great reaction as always! as your next album from these guys I'd recommend "I'm In Your Mind Fuzz". It's another one of their staple albums I'd say.
catching that the album loops before it even happens is crazy, tho spotify fucks it up frustratingly
I know I already commented when this was first uploaded, but in my experience Spotify ALWAYS fucks the transition from Road Train to Robot Stop.
