The musical has been running for 21 years, just because a couple of incidents has happened on stage the past TWENTY ONE YEARS doesn't mean something is cursed!
It's extremely obvious that the mindset of the wicked witch role being cursed was one fans thought only back in the immediate aftermath of Idina's injury and is not how they think today
@@krio. no. I do not. But I work in theatre and I know anything will, and can happen. In my 25 years of working theatre I have seen a lot. It's a dangerous industry. It does not mean it's cursed. Look at construction jobs (which I have also worked) are they cursed because we get injured? No. It's a dangerous profession. Anywhere that there is risk involved will also include injury. This is why we should respect those who work in these industries because they give us entertainment and infrastructure. But also most workplaces come with risk and injury. It just so happens a show about something mystical and evil that has a witch is "cursed". Look at Macbeth. It's a legend. Look at the facts instead of the feeling and you will see anyone, anywhere, can hurt themselves. Look both ways before crossing the street and have a nice day!
Also! Mila Kunis who played the Wicked Witch in the film “Oz, The Great and Powerful” had to undergo weeks of skin treatment because the green makeup she wore steeped into her pores and her skin looked green even after the film wrapped.
Real bad curse there. This role is probably why she was cast for Frozen. I really hope that they at least asked her if she was interested in doing the Wicked movie.
I remember watching a video with Idina talking about the night that she got hurt and when she was in the ambulance the EMTs didn’t know what to do with the dress and she’s just in such pain that she said something like “just cut the thing off” and they were told that the dress was worth like thousands of dollars and to do anything they could to save it. But she just kept yelling “cut it off!” Lol If I was Idina I would of said the same thing, like “send me the bill, now get to cutting god damnit!!!” Lol But they eventually got it off her without having to cut it or anything. Idina actually showed up for her very last show though. She refused to miss her very last show so at the end she walked out on stage in no makeup and a tracksuit and sang For Good with Kristin.
and Kerry Ellis ALMOST fell from the lift in defying gravity, we have audio. Apparently she accidentally made it rise with her arm instead of her back, causing her to not be secured properly. Luckily she made sure to stop the play and didn't try to make the show go on... Knowing Idina, she probably would have took the risk, since she performed tired (almost to a breaking point) and sick a few times 💀
They had to stop the show for 45 minutes to rush Idina to the hospital. And Idina’s understudy, Shoshona Bean had to be rushed into make-up to finish the last 2 minutes of the show.
Stephanie j block also had an incident prior to the 1st nat tour opening, she was rehearsing the no good deed flying sequence (it was cut after this) and she was thrown into a wall repeatedly she had some kind of back injury. it all happened the night prior to the tour opening but I do think they pushed it back until she recovered
I think Myra Ruiz (our Brazilian Elphaba) didn't suffer any injuring while Wicked was in theaters here in Brazil, so she broke the Wicked Witch Curse hahahaha

Zelena was iconic and her line "Wicked Always Wins" was so memorable. Lots of people (including myself) used to hate her which means Rebecca Madder did her job pretty well.

I was in a company and we wanted to do the wizard of oz twice and for some reason we couldn't, and then in drama school they wanted to do it, but again, they couldn't because of Pandemic. So, yes, I think its cursed
If there were multiple cases of bad luck in the musical that'd make sense sadly tho actors getting injured/sick because of the wizard of Oz movie is not new news alot of bad things happened to the whole cast

as an actress who has played the role of the wicked witch i will say: a lot of the stunts/special effects could be very dangerous if not handled/created properly it's not an easy role by any means, but it is so much fun and definitely my favorite role that i've ever played.
I don’t think the role is cursed it’s just a very challenging role when it comes to special effects.

And Margaret Hamilton’s stunt double Betty Danko was also thrown from the broom after a pipe on the broom exploded and left a deep wound to her leg
