I like how, as time goes on, bans become less about controlling women/"protecting" men, and more about actual health an environmental concerns. Small victories, ladies.
For the 1920's, they should have mentioned the infamous "Radium Girls" and how they were told to put radium on their teeth, hair, and skin to give off a glow in the dark effect. Of course it being radium you probably know what happened.....
They licked the end of a paint brush to get it to a point then dipped it into paint mixed with radium to pain over watch faces so they glowed. They'd relive the brush over and over and the radium stayed on their teeth which would glow after a while. Years later they developed cancer, jaw rot or both. The men who made the radium paint were in full containment suits but the girls handled it with no protection at all.
@Olivia SUN I was saying that the person above said lipstick once contained these ingredients but they no longer do so your comment of, "is wearing red lipstick" makes no sense. Most lipstick is considered safe (not all, mind you, but most. particularly western brands). My apologies for coming off blunt but I tend to have that nature. Hindsight is 2020. At the time we didn’t know mercury was a bad for health. Just like many chemicals and products that get recalled and banned. If anything makeup and different chemicals are more everyday now. And so we get exposed to more than we used to. 🤷🏼♀️
Saw some horror stories on the injectible silicones. People had to get pieces of their bodies removed because of it, and almost died of course. So scary!😲
Yes I knew some people who had some terrible breast implants. It is a very sketchy and dangerous thing to do. Even if it's just Saline the saline leaks out sometimes I you have to keep getting them injected with more saline. It's best just to have a God gave you having said that I can see implants in cancer patients excetera
It's scarily common in Brazil. Every now and then you see a story on the news: already hella pretty, wants to have bigger boobies, does it with someone untrustworthy, they use iNDUSTRIAL SILICONE, she dies of poisoning.
At 0:50, I don’t think they necessarily put in straight up rat poison, but ingredients that are a large component used in rat poison. A huge one was arsenic, it was used in a lot of beauty products as well as medicine (could be wrong) it also had a green color like the lighting suggested.
Ive learned about the CFS in biology that come from aerosol. (They can be find in spray bottles, air conditioners and even the air of the old fridges in that time.) ABCDEFG T They should be! I read an interview with one woman who uses them regularly, who said she didn't care if she died from skin cancer as long as she had a tan. Seems like a slow and painful way of committing suicide to me, if not a terrible form of self harm.

I remember watching the episode of Victorious where Trina ended up getting everyone, including herself sick for doing the fish treatment. In the episode they said it was illegal but i didn't know that was real 😮.
This is extremely interesting! I am personally not into beauty or makeup and normally use it out necessity, but learning history about the dangerous lengths women would go to to make them look nicer, and the ridiculous thoughts authorities had about some products, is very rewarding
"out of necessity" when is makeup ever necessary? Why is it that somehow only girls and women think expensive and as this video points out often dangerous products are "necessary" but never boys or men? Do female babies pop out if the womb wanting to put on makeup but somehow not male babies or is maybe something else at play here making you think makeup could ever possibly be "necessary" 🤔
Molly Sheehan ...no? I just mean that I, personally, sometimes put foundation on to cover up pimples, or bags under my eyes, to make me feel better, and that’s all. I didn’t mean that makeup is a necessary product, I completely agree with you on that point, I think everyone is naturally beautiful 😂
@@PinkApocalypse fair point, and I get that and respect that, but maybe think about how many boys or men you know who feel compelled to put concealer on if they have pimples or bags under their eyes just to make themselves feel better, and compare that to how many girls and women you know who do. I used to feel compelled to put on concealer if I had pimples or bags under my eyes and felt better, but then one day I stopped and realized I knew maybe only one guy who did but more girls and women than I could name who did and questioned why that was and questioned why I felt compelled but guys don't.

To be fair, make-up often was way more obvious back then. A man today might not spot foundation or concealer. Maybe not even eyebrows and mascara if done Well. But eye-make-up and rouge definately could be spotted way back then and now.
