if you don't have an insecurity they can't exploit it, and it's troubling because it's mostly gaslighting (self-love being 'crazy') but at best it's negging and they're warming people up to the same abusive treatment by individuals from normalizing it at a cultural level

Jessica, if I'm being honest, I've been in a HORRIBLE mood the past two weeks. My friend and I were really close and we have always wanted to date. Btw we are now both in college. Well, she finally met someone and just went out on her first date, and I was SO JEALOUS! I had always envied her so much and now her life had just gotten even better. Since then I had been terribly depressed and so insecure. I've never been asked out and every guy I had liked has NEVER liked me. I really thought there was something wrong with me. I can't tell you how happy I am that this came out NOW. My favorite RUclipsr helping me to improve my confidence. 💙💙 Jessica you have saved my life. ❤️❤️ I can't thank you enough

I would obsessively research concealers and how to get rid of dark circles because I had received comments from kids on “how I needed to sleep more”. Imagine my surprise when dark circles started to become “hot” on TikTok recently. It was validating but it was also like: really? Beauty standards are absolute bullshit.

Yeah the beauty trends in body type and skin tone is extremely weird and I think it's harmful for real. I had a much better confidence when I was a teen because having a skinny and straight up and down no curves body was considered beautiful. Now when big curves and a big butt and hourglass shape is what people say is beautiful I'm just "unfortunate looking" and I see training programs to get an hourglass body type. They don't work. I just get muscular and even more boyish looking when I work out.. So yeah. What can we do.. Just accept ourselves and focus on being healthy I think. I can't help to wish I had curves because pretty clothes are now made to fit and enhance that body type more. I sometimes think about shopping for men's clothes and give up trying to look feminine

This really resonated with me, because evolving beauty standards are a pervasive issue throughout our society. Ideals of beauty are the bane of female existence. They set us apart from one another, and create a capitalistic hierarchal structure where 'imperfect' women are made to feel insecure. Most women are trying so hard to become attractive enough to climb that beauty ladder, that they don't even realize the way the industry is exploiting female insecurities and making a profit. You definitely hit the nail on the head when you said, "you're not ugly, you're just not in season right now."
    --
I can also seriously relate to your commentary on body image. It's very confusing to receive positive feedback from one person about your body type, and then be met with a contradictory opinion from another. There's a weird disconnect between compliments and criticism. I can actually recall a negative experience at Macy's about 5 years back, when I was scrutinized by an elderly woman who walked up and said the back of the dress was too low. She even slapped my lower body as if to emphasize where the fullest part was. I'm quite curvy, and I was fuller at the time, so it occurred to me that people might think the low back dress was too risqué. However, I never expected someone to come up to me and do that. It's really unfortunate when people feel like they can openly comment on someone, and touch them. I don't really blame her personally, and with good reason. I think it's a societal issue of the normalization of public criticism, as well as being culturally influenced. This elderly woman was likely raised with these cultural norms. I considered this, and detached myself from the situation, as I had grown up in a largely Asian American community in California where people felt that open criticism was acceptable, and she was an older Asian woman. Whether it was telling someone to hide their stomach, narrow the nose, look as pale as possible, lose a few pounds, wear a push up bra, or cover acne, these were the cultural norms in my childhood community. I certainly thought that, as horrible as what she did was, she was likely the 'lethal' combination of cultural norms and dated values from her generation. Had I not grown up within a culture outside of my own, I probably would have broken down the moment this happened. I was just so aware of where she was likely coming from. Does this make it okay? Hell no! With that said, though, I still don't blame her because I understand the origin of her reasoning. ---- Contrary to this negative experience and many other uncomfortable moments, though, I've had many people say they wish they had my measurements and have been compared to Christina Hendricks (body-wise)/ Kate Beckinsale (facially). I've ultimately come to the conclusion that I can't please everyone within society, and I certainly can't keep up with the beauty industry, so i might as well attempt to embrace my body. As long as I'm physically healthy and content within my own skin, there's no valid reason to feed into beauty brainwashing.

True beauty (in my opinion) is within personality before appearance. You could be "gorgeous according to the CURRENT beauty standards) but if you have a rude, unattractive personality, that makes you overall unattractive in my personal opinion. fat deposition varies by sex and race so while I rarely call this it's definitely racist because women and especially black women are genetically predispositioned to a higher body fat percentage, so they're shaming women and gaslighting them for evolution
when a fat guy insults fat women, they're overlooking the fact BMI was a standard only intended and based on men in the military, who have a lower fat percentage, women genetically have more oestrogen and as dr berg videos mention oestrogen is the fat storing hormone. a man and woman at the same weight aren't the same fitness, the woman is healthier because she's supposed to have more fat than he is.

This is exactly what I took into mind once I unenrolled out of public school. I was so wrapped up on trying to be "popular" and "pretty" that I completely lost myself. Once there was time to think about the true meaning of beauty, I really started to understand that It. Doesn't. Matter. Like you said, I use to spend so much time looking the mirror telling myself that I was ugly based off of other's remarks. I've began to realize that if I say that I am beautiful then I am. That's for me to say. Not others.

Hey Isabelle! As someone who is also skinny and struggled with caring about people’s opinions in high school (I’m 20 now but it wasn’t so long ago), I’d say just wear those dresses! You’ll be much happier wearing what you love than settling for clothes that you’re not as passionate about. Don’t worry about what others think - as long as your outfits are dress code appropriate (lol gotta put that reminder in cause you still in school) people will get used to it. And who knows - you may even inspire some other girls in your shoes to start wearing dresses or what they love 👗 again too - I’m sure there’s others in your shoes 🤍

I am acting and a lot of my friends are actors and I feel like it's a mini-universe of what you described. Some of my friends are really good but they don't get certain roles and it makes them feel bad. But one has to realise that not getting a role mainly means one thing: you don't fit that role. It does NOT mean that you're a bad actor/actress and noone is ever going to employ you. We are depending so much on other people's opinion and we forget about what WE think of our own worth and that we have it in the first place..

As good as it may sound, it is also an indirect, crude way to say you are actually ugly. People get into relationships because they say they look cute together or they'll make a cute baby, etc, etc, b.s after b.s and then wonder why they're relationship doesnt work out. It's been 2 months after the break up that I have, and regardless of all these girls I'm attracting. I stay away! Idc if the girl looks like Scarlett Johansson.
