  • 7 of my favorite rocks from this week! These are some my favorites yet!
A lot of these are unique examples (at least to me), where I haven’t found/seen many similar:
    1. Lahontan Wonderstone
    2. Picture Jasper / Landscape Jasper (even though it’s actually rhyolite)
    3. Picture Jasper / Landscape Jasper
    4. Banded Rhyolite
    5. Brecciated Rhyolite w/ vein
    6. Lahontan Wonderstone / Lahontan Jasper
    7. Brecciated Rhyolite with inclusions
All rocks self collected by me 🙂 Which one’s your favorite?

I have so many rocks that look like these… and I would love to see what they look like on the inside! I know what I’m asking Santa for Christmas!🤣

It’s been really cool to get to see what’s inside! I’ve been rockhounding a while but only recently got a saw, so I’m working through all the rocks I knew I wanted to cut if I got the chance!

Would be nice to learn what these are.

@@teresaplew7714 The rocks are almost all highly silicified rhyloite. “Wonderstone” is a term for gem grade rhyolite, typically ones with the rainbow banding and swirls. Other types of gem grade rhyolite are often sold as “jasper” because of the similarity in look and polish (ie Rainforest Jasper).
Like jaspers, these are often unique to the specific locale, and are generally named for the area. I use the word “Lahontan” to refer to the place, the former massive Lake Lahontan and surrounding areas, where I’ve found all of these. People call it Lahontan Jasper or Lahontanite. There are also a few claims in the general area that sell under various trade names.

Would be nice if you describe the Rock ,
    Where you found it
And the type that you see inside
