Aloha Patrick and Stuart, thank you for sharing this video. I only want to say positive things so I don’t know what to say about that Chateau except maybe, the inside did not match the exterior of the chateau. I’m so glad you chose Chateau de Colombe. You’ve both done and are doing a remarkable job making it functional and also keeping that authentic 1600, 1700 and 1800’s look and feel. I’m trying to find your video of first looking at Chateau de Colombe and deciding that this was the Chateau of your dreams. It really is gorgeous 🏰.
Beautiful building but definitely agree, the staircase was not grand at all and has to be the centre piece of the entrance, plus the ceilings are very low. Loved the green bedroom 😍😍🏰
Spot on! Thank you for watching. You guys are such an inspiration to us with Anna and Philipp at Le Fleur. Love your property and Tracy and Tony and of course Ash. We followed you from the start. Actually waited after we saw the teaser. Thank you for sharing your adventure
Hello Patrick & Stewart, buying property is a big investment as well as dramatic. You need as much information as you possibly can obtain, you have to get your priorities right, what you like,, what is acceptable and is there potential. If this is not to your liking, good, you have not lost out financially only time. That you have to do, take time to see what is on offer and iis the price right. I am sure, you will find the most suitable chateau and when you see it, you will know. In about one week, you are stepping onto French soil and a complete new life challenge. Can't wait I am sure you have the gem you were looking for. Have a great day.
Just revisiting vlogs and saw your comment. We didn’t talk about it but we had the chateau and outbuildings inspected for wood worm and termites as well as dry rot. All good. As you said, it’s a huge investment, money and time as well as emotions. Thank you so much for the input and all your care. 💖😘💖

Hi, I'm with you, the stairs are pretty pokey. V disappointing. The chateau looked so nice outside. You will find that generally the kitchens are a complete letdown. Way too small which is surprising seeing that the French are such foodies. I think this chateau needs a lot of work even if the staircase was mor grandiose. Good luck. I so hope you find your dream chateau or manor house very soon. My husband and I think you explain things so clearly.
Hi Penny. Thank you for your wonderful comment. We have a huge kitchen now and i couldn't imagine going to the one in this chateau! We both totally agree with you that often French kitchen are surprising. Small and basic and then they create such amazing food. I just found your channel. What fun. My hubs and I went chateaux shopping a couple of years ago and completely understand how deceptive the photos and information (or lack there of) from the estate agents can be. I agree with you about the kitchen and lack of grand entrance. The grounds are lovely. Keep hunting.
Hello there and a Happy New Year! Glad you enjoy our vlogs. It was a bit frustrating at times. We didn't see quite a few properties because the realtors never responded to us. I always wrote them in French, so that couldn't have been the issue. 6-10 attempts and nothing. Other realtors are fantastic. May I ask if you found your chateau? We have two for an additional visit planned for early 2022, Covid permitting. Be safe and any input is very much appreciated. 🥂
@@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 I can completely relate. There was a fabulous chateau that we saw online and emailed the agent through their website portal in both English and French and nothing. I emailed multiple times and never once got a reply. Very frustrating. From what I've read on various social media groups, the French agents really don't respond with email. They prefer phone. Why have an email portal then? Anyhoo, no, we gave up on the search--for now. We still like the idea of owning something just a little bit fabulous and old but for now, we will be staying in our city digs. When I watch your videos so much of it brings back memories of our search. It's wonderful to see others experience the same thing. @@emiller1439 True, why even bother having an email. 😂 Cabinet LeNail and some other larger agencies are much better that way. The phone scares me (in French). Hello, just watched Ash and Terry's 12th day of Christmas (At Château De Lalacelle) where they showed the beautiful gift you sent them, This Chateau looked beautiful from the outside but sadly the inside was very small and dreary, loved how you showed all the layouts and the grounds. looking forward to following you both in your journey to owning your very own Chateau.
Hi Paula. Glad you liked the plate Stuart designed. We love that whole family. They are in some ways a lot like us. We try to do as much as we can ourselves. Their 12 days of Christmas had a few episodes where I was a bit teary...... In a good sense. Agreed, the exterior was wonderful. For my own record and not to be shared with the public, i would use a hidden camera. Hard to remember everything you see. Looking at many chateaux can get confusing. It's a lot to think about and way more complicated than house shopping in the U.S. I do understand the owner's wish for privacy and not showing their possessions or house plan for thieves.
Living with a person who can draw up a floor plan from memory, I am with you - however, respecting the privacy of the owners is a bit easier with Stuart around
Hi guys, nice video. I can imagine you're looking for something else. This was more of a family home. 😀 videoshorts of the both of you were a bit shaky but I imagine you'll get the hang of it. Can't wait to see the next one.
Thanks Marco! Yes, I didn't realize the shakiness of those clips until I started editing. We are still working out all of the bugs with the video and audio quality.
Hey there Marco. Thanks. Yup, we don't know what happened to the selfie stick. It usually steadies everything. It clearly didn't..... Too funny. We'd be OK with a chateau from the 18the century that is not a grand old chateau - just considering there costs..... Please keep your comments coming. Very much appreciated
Pretty as a picture for sure, but I do share your observations. There where to many compromises. I do not think the chateau was the grand vision we often have of them, and neighbors so close was not the menu either. It is fascinating however.
I'd be worried about the water levels in this chateau, living here in the UK and I know in parts of France specially this last few years, have had horrendous flooding in parts. I hope whatever you choose takes this mind. As it is only going to get worse with the global warming unfortunately and seasons have changed, and weather has changed so much now 😢
the outside facade looked very nice and like a nice single family home should, the grounds look extensive offering sufficient space, privacy and potential for landscaping, wood for heating etc. That entry hall and staircase was very underwhelming. Ick!
Not really a Chateau more a manor house, looked great outside, the windows will always be single glazed that was the reason they had shutters inside and then curtains,
That Chateau’s kitchen was not very nice and like you said you can’t really make it bigger. The main entrance-staircase wasn’t very grand for a Chateau. It was good to view though thank you
My Lords!! Good day! Robert here... :} Never actually saw the first few episodes of your delightful vlog, so it's time. I agree. Eventhough I like this house - though it's more a manoir than a chateau, I understand why you didn't buy this one. First.... a really disappointing staircase... Very little interesting detailing. But the worst and really asking for disaster: floodrisk!!! Think of all your precious furniture and artifacts, let alone guests to stay... No, definitely not appropriate!

Will take some time till I will be that fluent. So they have to do email or I'm toast. 🤪 Chateau hunting is definitely not the same compared to a regular house hunt. That is such a great observation. It makes me smile to think that you, your hubby and many other people can relate to our experiences because you/they already had similar experiences. Hopefully, you will eventually jump back into search mode. If we already have our chateau, please stop by and have some wine with us!!!! 🍷🍷🍷 Love some of these wonderful exchanges like ours. Thank you!!! 🥰
@@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 We would LOVE to share a bottle (or 2) with you guys. We'll be in France in late June (if covid allows) this year. Can't wait. When are you planning on visiting?
I am really enjoying your channel and looking forward to following you on your journey! Thank you for sharing!
Awesome! Thank you!
Hey there. I love your YourTube handle. While in Cape Town I meditated almost every day sitting on the mountains looking at the ocean and it was so peaceful. Thanks for being with us on our journey. Stay tuned - Stuart is working on the next episode
I find you two so cute and nice, like seeing your journey to your chateau, can’t wait to see which one you will get ... ciao from Italy
Mille grazie. Thank you for being with us!
Can’t wait to see the next one. You guys are good at this!
Hi Wendy. You are so very kind. Thank you!
You are so very kind. I cannot take any credit. Music, editing, effects is all Stuart. He is very talented (I might be biased). Happy you take the journey with us.
True to your word you edited and posted your first chateau visit pretty quickly! The setting was stunning but have to agree that the stair entry way really isn't grand enough. From your past projects you have shared I think you are looking for GRAND, inspiring architecture. Thank you taking the time to share with us your search through France.
Thank you, Debra! It takes quite a lot of time to put this type of a vlog together, so I hope we can keep it going on a regular schedule.
@@JourneytotheChateau As long as it brings you joy. And your subscribers will wait and won't be going anywhere because we are hungry for the Chateau adventure ourselves! Have fun for all of us. And again, thank you for sharing!
Good decision to look further gentleman
One of you has to be a virgo Hahahaha (like me) I loved the drawing with arrows to explain the layout of the land Very clarifying Gonna follow your journey Good Luck 👊🍀
Thank you! We are actually both Cancerians. 😀
Actually, we are both Cancer. But we love order and I need visual aids (I actually need them). Thank you for following us and please keep your comments coming. Love it.
Thank you, Paula!
Hi Paula. Glad you liked the plate Stuart designed. We love that whole family. They are in some ways a lot like us. We try to do as much as we can ourselves. Their 12 days of Christmas had a few episodes where I was a bit teary...... In a good sense. Agreed, the exterior was wonderful. I guess I was not looking too closely at the listing's interior photos. But it was well worth viewing the property. Can't wait to get my hands dirty in our own chateau. Thank you for watching and joining our journey!
@@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 Hiya, I agree they are a lovely down to earth family an love their Vlogs, I am sure your perfect Chateau is in sight... your welcome x
I really enjoyed your content! You guys presented your visit to the first property very succinctly and in a perfect time frame. I can’t wait to see more of your adventures and as Terriers are the best dogs in the world I’d enjoy seeing them too. Great work!
Thank you for your great comment. We do appreciate feedback. Stay tuned!

@@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 aaahw thx that's so sweet of you.. hugs from a cloudy holland... 🥰😍
Just found your channel, love it. I usually skip the intro’s after seeing once but yours is fabulous, it builds excitement for what is to come. Only comment I have is would you share the realtor for each of the château?
Hi Jo. Thank you so much. I love the music of the intro that Stuart found. Young composer who gave us permission to use it. We have been using Cabinet LeNail and Barnes International as point realtors. They are both all over France and we had good luck with their network.
I have not seen your vlogs before so have now subscribed to your channel. You explain everything in detail which I love. Keep up the great work, I love it, I just need to catch up with your previous vlogs 🥰
Thank you, Laurann!
Onward & Upward.
Exactly!
right you are
😉😉
So true. Every point you make is spot in. Love it..
Is there any undercroft remaining of the abbey?
No. There was a cave for wine storage, etc., but nothing that remained of the abbey.
I rewatched this vlog, and this property is still beautiful from the outside.
I'd be worried about the water levels in this chateau, living here in the UK and I know in parts of France specially this last few years, have had horrendous flooding in parts. I hope whatever you choose takes this mind. As it is only going to get worse with the global warming unfortunately and seasons have changed, and weather has changed so much now 😢
New to the Chanel.....what would someone expect to pay for the chateau in your video??. What realtors did you use??... thanks
That was several years ago, but I think that one was between 400K and 500K euros. Realtors we used when searching were Leggett and LeNail.
I enjoyed the video, I found that the chateau was not so grand.
Thank you, Joed. We agree with you.
Agreed. It was pretty and the facade was so pleasant. Grand it was not. We may settle for a nice not so grand chateau is it's the right fit.
the outside facade looked very nice and like a nice single family home should, the grounds look extensive offering sufficient space, privacy and potential for landscaping, wood for heating etc. That entry hall and staircase was very underwhelming. Ick!
We agree, Robert. Thanks for watching!
The grounds and the outside of the château was beautiful, the inside not so much.
That was exactly our feeling. I'm glad you have the same feeling.
Too small
So many beautiful features but some deceiving surprises 👎
Glad that didn’t suit you💕
I don't like it.
Thank you, Raynona. We knew after we visited that it was not for us.
