True Single coil pickups but with more balls, so expect some 60's cycle hum! RWRP neck pickup provides a noise cancelling operation in the middle position. Nice, chunky sounding pickups that retain that much loved single coil bite, twang and squelch.
I have the exact same pickups in my partscaster: QP/bridge, QP(RWRP)/neck with only master volume (250k pot with treble bleed) and a middle dummy pickup (Blackmore style). The sound is great! 👌🏼
It really is, they won't be leaving the guitar anytime soon !
Sounds great, very helpful video
Thank you
Great playing and great sound! :) I gotta be honest: my strat used to have these pickups, including the middle one. Since they came installed in the guitar when it was given to me (it was my first guitar ever), I found the sound to be great for everything, including metal and funk. After a while, let's say like 8 years later, I began noticing the pups' sound (especially the bridge's) was kinda strange, like they were pretending to be humbuckers but with a single coilish character, which was kinda annoying to me (positions 2 and 4 were really dark, so I ignored them). Then, I decided it was time for a change. I really wanted to get a vintage sound, so I had to say goodbye to those quarter pounds. Now, my Strat has two SSL-1s on neck and middle positions and a 59/Custom Hybrid on bridge: couldn't be more happy with that change. One thing that I really miss from the QPs is the neck one; it had a really good tone for hi-gain lead, especially with tone pot at 5. However, I don't regret about my decision. I hope you're happy with them :)
I have a couple of SSL1s knocking about, great pickups!
I'm still enjoying these pickups in this guitar, i tend to play more metal and i love the fatness from these guys i also like how it can retain a bit of stratocaster chime when needed!
@@DaveViner Great! That means you really know how to get the best from them! Maybe there was something I missed when I had them.
Different strokes for different folks.
Sounds really good, loved the neck especially. Are you using 500K pots? They sounds clearer than on some other demos.
Thanks man, using 250k pots.
I love how these pickups sound. I just ordered a set, but I'm thinking of cancelling the order now because I have an Epiphone SG that is perfect for heavier and darker styles. Kinda wish I had 2 Strats now lol.
Just get a second pickguard, that is why strats are so great in my opinion, you can easily swap out pickguards with different pickups in them for different sounds.
@@DaveViner sadly I have zero experience with soldering and I don't feel comfortable doing it.
@@DaveViner Yeah I'm gonna have to learn to solder and buy some tools from the sound of it. I do not feel comfortable soldering wires in my precious Strat though currently.
I get that but if you get a pickguard wired up by someone (professional, friend etc) you will only need to unsolder/solder 2 to 3 wires each time you want to change sounds. I bought a soldering iron, some solder and just practiced on really cheap parts (pots and wire can be bought in bulk very cheaply on eBay). Watch a few videos, you got this king.
No worries man, was just an suggestion.
Do the Quarter Pounder Seymour Duncan have 60 cycle hum? Noiseless?
They are true single coil pickups and as a result are susceptible to 60 cycle hum. If using under high gain use a noise gate!
or use in 2nd or 4th position as those are hum cancelling :)
why is your neck pu reverse wound?
Because theres only 2 pickups and a 3 way switch in this guitar so having one pickup reverse wound allows for the middle position to be hum-cancelling.
@@DaveViner gotcha
it sounds like tele bridge everywhere
