I’ve been scouring RUclips for videos on single-coil-sized humbuckers recently, I have to say that this is by far the best video of the Little 59, it’s so thorough. I’ve watched it a few times now, thank you Kris. Just got to decide whether I put one of these in my Strat, or change the whole pickguard and go with something a little heavier.
This video helped convince me to put a lil 59 in my SRV strat (kept the Texas Specials in neck and middle). Stayed with 250k pot, but added a push pull to split it back to a single coil. Love the bridge pu now and my guitar is much more versatile in a gig situation. Thanks for your video.
You can't really compare them (59 in an LP and lil 59 in a strat). A strat will still sound "straty" no matter what PU you put in it. That's exactly what i love about this combination: it has the character of the guitar (spanky) but sounds way rounder than a single coil in the bridge position. Give it a try. ;-)
It did sound great and made the strat more versatile. However I've since sold the strat and bought something else. Great pickup though, give you some beef for loud solos that a single coil doesn't quite have.
I have a treble bleed and when I roll the volume off on the lil 59 it goes to single coil vibes.....ao much so I don't need or have a split option. Great pickup.
So much versatility from just 1 amp setting on your Mark III! I have a Mark IV, and have been only using it for metal, but now I want to try to dial it in close to what you've got for more variety! Let me know if you have any tips for the Mark IV, there are soo many knobs and switches lol!
I was hoping for someone to ask this to be perfectly honest. lol Well... if your comment gets a couple of thumbs up I might actually think about making one. And thank's for the nice words man, i appreciate it! cheers!
Hello kris, I asked you once to select the amplifier. finally bought BUGERA 6260 and it realy rocks. Well I need to replace pickups. What do you recomend to play metal? Passive/Active? Emg, SD, Gibson, Tesla, or some what? BTW: I am not a big fun of statto ;)
Kris, can you explain your wiring? I'm an amateur at wiring up my guitar. I just installed this same exact set of PUPs in my partscaster. From what I understand the treble bleed wirning has a cap and resistor on the volume pot. So you just added a cap to the volume pot. What value cap do you have on your volume and tone pots? Thanks man. You are a great player, and your tone is killer....
Man that thing sounds good! Most excellent job of tuneage to show it off. I hope it’s cool to comment on old vids like this.... I wouldn’t want to upset the “kid” playing.... oh wait! Later
TeMpiSSeD haha! Don’t worry about him. He’s 6 years older now and chilled out. 🤣 By the way this my strat before the all the mods. Haha! It has still the old neck, factory finish instead of thin nitro, other pickups, etc. It’s funny to see it in that state now after all these years. And the video / speech quality. Omg. Very vintage. 😁
I have a lil 59 in my Squier tele and it sounds amazing.. especially for metal..surprising! That strat sounds so good... the tones you get don't get much better than that..
Hey man, thanks! I don’t use diagrams, sorry to disappoint (I’m a luthier at Thomann, I don’t use diagrams anymore for most regular wirings). But it’s really not that complicated don’t worry. You’ll find tons of good diagrams if you search for hss strat auto split wiring. 👍🏻 I’ll have regular uploads of interesting stuff from april here on my channel. Hit the subscribe botton if you like. Thanks man!
Hello Kris, dispite of this being a kind of old video of yours its awsome, and I'd like to know if you can help me with an info. It's about the pots that you used on this guitar. Did you keep them all 250k? Exchenged everything into 500k? Or made any kind of other combination? Thank you so!!!!
Hey Hugo, I tried a 500k volume on the guitar and the single coils sounded way too harsh with it. So I went back to 250k and I sticked with that. So all three pots were 250k. Fun fact: this is the same strat I still use, just before refinishing it and before swapping the trem, the neck and the tele bridge pickup. :) Cheers!
Hey man that is great . But a lot of your fans here including me want to know what pot you are using . 500k or 250 k . It is not so kind not to answer ... Thanks for video
Do you have you tone knob wired to the middle or bridge pickup. Love the lil 59 in the bridge position. Wondering if Ill need a tone on this bridge pickup. Thoughts?
Really enjoyed this video, pretty much liked all the tones. Do you know what the value of the capacitor you used for the treble bleed? I am thinking of running this same pickup combo.
That’s exactly what I’m using it for. Sounds much fuller with overdriven stuff than the stock bridge. Recently he installed a tele bridge pickup though so now I wonder how that compares.
Fantastic Tone and sound! you that your Little '59 auto-splits in position 2. Is that something you have to set up with a guitar tech or are the pickups set up like that?
+Angel Martinez It's a 4 wire humbucker (+ & - for each bobbin) so you can wire it up to ground one of the two halves of the pickup for position 2. There are wiring diagrams on the seymour duncan website for various combos (1 vol 1 tone, 1 vol 2 tone, etc). It is a very handy way to keep that position 2 sound.
Hello, Kris! First of all, congratulations... you're a great player and your tones are awesome! Then, I would like to ask you about the wiring diagram you used, since, because of your video, I bought a SD Little '59 (bridge) to install on my Fender Stratocaster. Can you send me the schematics (via message) or post a link so I can download it? Thanks! Keep rockin'!

Nice Mesa, my Mark 3 has a blue LED. wonder if your amp is 2c+ and used Mark3 faceplate for say maybe GEQ upgrade and 2C to 2C+. Either way let's hear your bad boy with the Gibson Custom! Like if you agree too!
This damn stupid new comment system doesn't let me reply to older comments. Sorry guys, I gotta do it this way. -jonw82 + Piotr Kochanek: The Capacitor's value is 220pF and it's installed on the volume pot. -banda high society: I didn't install the seymour (because of the auto-split function which i couldn't have made by myself) so i don't have a wiring diagram. Sorry to disappoint. -hadley101: as far as i know my amp is clearly a Mark 3 (i even have the blue stripe above the power cord entry) But you know what? I wouldn't cry if it came out to be a 2c+. haha! -nick burman: you're totally right, it's not called a mini humbucker officially. I kinda call it that anyways since i don't have a shorter and better fitting name to it. ;-)
hmmm tough call but I think 6 is going too far - it sounded like you had a low battery first 9 minutes - might as well switch to clean/dirty channel Rollback at 7 sounded excellent though.

Just asking, when you split the SD Lil' 59 what part of coil that is activated - is that coil towards bridge or coil towards neck? I also want to retain and achieve that sparkly/glassy/quack tone of strat. Thank you.
9 years old and this video is still one of the best pickup demos I've ever seen
One of the best tone in all the videos that i've see/listen in last year.

This is an old video but i just wanted to drop by and say great tone and great playing.
@@scottycunningham1413 Much appreciated man! Yeah this video feels like it’s from a former life of mine, haha!
Best demo for the Lil 59 on You Tube - extremely helpful!!! Great playing and tone!!!
thank's bro! It means a lot!
No problem! Keep rocking and if you have a chance sometime let's hear some more of that cool strat!!
Awesome man !! Best demo of the lil 59 period !! You have convinced me to go ahead with it for my bridge pup..Keep rockin '
I'm happy it was helpful. That's exactly why I made the vid. Take care and enjoy your strat!
That's EXACTLY my pickups now, Texas Special. Do you think they blend well with Lil 59?
Loving the AC/DC cover!!! 😉😉😃😃👌🏻👌🏻🤘🤘🤘
Thanks! Best review of the Little 59 I've heard. Just ordered one.
Glen Rappold Ordered it. Got it. Installed. Sounds killer thanks for the great review!
Always awesome to see another video from you! Your demos rock!
Hei man, even though I came here for the lil 59 originally, I keep coming back for the entertainment .. love to listen to all the riffs and tones :)
me too! SD should have this linked - personal favorite "pickup demo"!
You can't really compare them (59 in an LP and lil 59 in a strat).

This review persuaded me to get a little 59 for my new ltd strat! Nice playing :)
How do you like it?
It did sound great and made the strat more versatile. However I've since sold the strat and bought something else. Great pickup though, give you some beef for loud solos that a single coil doesn't quite have.
I like how, when you turn the volume down on the 59, it starts to sound like a traditional single coil again, that's pretty sweet
I can listen to you play all day. Color me subscribed!
Covering money talks is A+ bro, sweet.
Best review of SD Little 59 Yet!!!!! Thanks
Yes it sounds great! I’m still trying to decided between the lil 59 and the jb jr..
great sound. can you please post the wiring (which cable goes to volume, which one to selector and how to get the auto split). tnx...
Excellent demo
Yeah sorry about the long break... Awesome to hear that you liked it!
I'll try to be more active.
Rock on buddy!
Awesome tones Kris!!! Congrats.
I've installed a Capacitor so that I don't lose presence when I roll back the volume pot.
Amazing sound on Little Wing. (Eargasm) Really Good job! ;)
This of all guitars I’ve seen you play so far is the one you look so twinned with. It’s like an extension of your arm. 😊
Very cool vids, keep on rockin my friend! \m/
Hey dude, welcome back, been a long time since you made a video. And awesome video too!!
The mark III is awesome! Could you do a video about this fantastic amp? I really like your style!
You have great tone my friend and are a great player 👍
Great demo & playing👍🎸
'Bout time we got another video from you! :D
I have a treble bleed and when I roll the volume off on the lil 59 it goes to single coil vibes.....ao much so I don't need or have a split option. Great pickup.
Great review sounds awesome!! What a tone!
Gran demostración. Felicitaciones.
Do you think it would make a good combination
with stock mid dle and neck Fenddr Texas Special
pickups?
What is the difference between mini humbuckers Seymour Duncan (JB Jr), (Little 59), (Little Scramin Demon) and (Hot Rails) for the bridge pickup?
Mostly the sound profile, magnet types and output levels.
Great suond Kris. Can You tell me exactly what kind of Capacitor You put into Your guitar and where to install it, Volume knob?
Sounds amazing but I don't know if I should put a lil 59 in my Strat since I got one in my Les Paul.
@Gábor Major: talált! Damn sure I'm hungarian. ;-)

Really good hard rock tone with volume on 6! Do you used 250 or 500k pot? I hear that you used treble bleed, what value (res, cap)?
Good ears! 👏 The treble bleed is just a cap, no resistor. It’s a 220pF
And I kept the original 250k pots. Cheers

Hey, thanks for your comment!
I use the original Fender 250k pot with a capacitor for treble bleed mod.
cheers!
Please... What the capacitor value? Your tone is very clean in lower volume. And is just a cap, or cap and resistor (parallel or series)?
Love your style of play, wish I could play like that but alas I'm just a hack.
My brother is the wizz on stringed instruments.
Do you know if the Tele lil 59 is the same in output and tone etc as the strat lil 59
Very cool, man!
Do you have you tone knob wired to the middle or bridge pickup. Love the lil 59 in the bridge position. Wondering if Ill need a tone on this bridge pickup. Thoughts?
Yes.. i want to know to..
Really enjoyed this video, pretty much liked all the tones. Do you know what the value of the capacitor you used for the treble bleed? I am thinking of running this same pickup combo.
This neck vs the Texas special neck ?
Any thoughts ?
That sounds great for Red Hot

14:01 is Rage Against The Machine -- Bombtrack
Sounds great! What size pots did you use? 250k or 500k?
Thank's man! 250k. I tried a 500k pot for volume but it sounded waaaay too bright.
I installed a Lil 59 on my strat a few months ago and love it. It was exactly what I was looking for. Left the 250k stock pot in place.
Yep did the same thing and love this pickup too !
Man you're just awesome, subscribed. If it's not hard for you, can you write a song list, please?
Happy new year by the way !
Hi, very nice demo! In bridge+middle position, is the little 59 splitted? Thx
Thank you, really nice to hear!
Yup, in position 2 (bridge+middle) the little 59 is splitted. I believe this wiring is called auto-split.
If you have a 500k pot for the lil 59 humbucker will that make the single coils too bright since they share the same volume pot?
yours truly ohh hell yes it will. I tried that too and didn’t like it at all. You’re better off with a 250k pot I think.
Kris great job and great pickup's and by the way, what is title from 7,06 to 7,55.
Thank's I appreciate that! The song is La Grange from ZZ Top.
Wow, Kris was a young boy too.... 🙄
Today I've got a 2004 American Standard strat too with a little 59 in the bridge. It is indeed awesome.
That’s such a good combination! Strat + little 59 🙌
Yeah, this video was made long ago. 😅
Nice video!
Have large differences in volume between singlecoil and humbucker? Thanks from Portugal..
thanks man! :-)
not really. It's a little louder, but that's OK. Perfect combination!
For the brightness of single coils you have 250k´s in the guitar. I think..
But are you sure that the cap is in the volume? Is usually in the neck tone
and this information is important to me. Can you answer me ?
Thank´s again my friend!
Hey Phill, I use 250k pot for volume just as you thought.
I'm absolutely sure about the capacitor being soldered on the volume pot. That's called a treble bleed modification. The capacitor on the tone pot has nothing to do with this. I hope I could help. ;-)
Kris Barocsi One more thing , you only have the condenser or also have resistance ? If you have resistance , what is the value ? You helped a lot! Thank you and good music !!

Kris Barocsi Thank´s my friend!
How does your lil 59 auto split in position 2? I have also installed the lil 59 in my Strat, does that also auto split?
I am unable to tell the difference.
Philip Crasto I had it wired for auto split but then I changed it to not split in pos. 2. It just sounded better that way.
@@KrisBarocsi what did u feel was wrong with it??
500K Volume Pot for the Lil59?

Do you have tone control bypass on bridge pickup?
Do you have treble bleed mod on your volume pot? It sounds nice and bright on 6.
