I didn't know the main actress SunLi joined the star search contest 2001 in Singapore. A talented actress but the judge were blinded not to choose her. Now she's so popular international.
It's a great drama. I recommend watching the full-length drama in Chinese with English sub. Furthermore, I recommend watching its sequel, Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace starring Zhou Xun as Qing Ying/Ruyi/Ula-nara Step-empress (but in reality, it's Hoifa-nara Step-empress).

Chinese language is much better through, the words goes much deeper then English can translate.

@@Ramonafloyd nope, there's a netflix version of empresses in the palace that only has 6 episodes. I've watched both versions, and the full drama is definitely much better. We love actual plot development lol

Now you must understand why Empress Dowager Niohuru Zhen Huan in Ruyi's Royal became hard to Ruyi. Zhen Huan suffered here a lot.

Hello. I have only recently discovered Chinese historical costume dramas. WOW! Now I'm addicted. I am currently watching Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace, after first watching The Story of Yanxi Palace. I can't wait to watch this one.

This is one of the greatest tv series I've seen. This trailer doesn't do it justice.
You might want to check out "Nothing Gold Can Stay" and "The Legend Of Mi Yue" the subtitles of the latter are much gibberish but using your intuition you'll be able to make sense of it. The drama to me was so interesting and captivating that I stuck with it to the end!
I’m gonna watch this next I also wanted to recommend the series The Princess Weiyoung it’s the best yet and it’s on Netflix so watch it! Also watch The Story of Yanxi Palace that’s another amazing series! I watch a lot of historical Chinese and Korean dramas they are the best in my opinion so after I finish the one I’m watching now which is called Legend of Hao Lan I’ll watch Empresses in the Palace and just so you guys know the one I’m watching now Legend of Hao Lan is very good so far so I recommend it as well!

Me and my wife , has been watching since , legend of Miyue . After episode 36 there is no more English subtitles. We do wish you can add some episodes in English . I am also learning mandarin language. I think that if you have English subtitles, it would help us a lot . Thank you.😃

I have seen snippets photo of what i assume to be some "deleted scenes" since i dont see those scenes in any of the 76 episodes. Its the very very old version of Zhen huan. But no where in the 76 episodes showing that clip

Also I can’t understand Chinese or Korean or Mandarin language I only know English language but it’s ok I just put on English captions and it works perfectly for me especially since I’m half deaf so I need captions regardless so I can read the captions and watch the show at the same time😀

Different version. Director version
The 76 episodes version is the full version. Netflix ordered a 6 episodes cut down from 76. So a lot of scenes were deleted, you'll find that some of the scenes don't make a lot of sense sometimes.

It’s because the drama is based of a book series but the books don’t have a specific time period at all though if it did then it would probably be either the Tang Dynasty or Ming dynasty based of the rankings named in the books. However the books did mention nian genyao for some reason so the directors probably just decided to go off of that and set the story in yongzhen’s reign

What is the whole concept of the drama
It’s all about the love story between an empresses and his emperor, and the fraud and fights between the concubines. It’s a pretty well plotted story, and ppl will highly recommend to watch the full version (76 ep) instead of Netflix 6 ep version.

Not sure where you left of but basically the emperor suspected (correctly) that she and his 17th brother had a affair he forced her to kill him with poisoned wine to prove her innocence. She tried to kill herself instead but 17th saw through the plot and ended up killing himself anyway which made Zhen Huan decide to kill the emperor. So then she conspired with Ning Ping and the drama ended with the emperor dead, zhen huan’s adopted son the 4th prince as the new emperor, and zhen huan became the empress dowager. If you haven’t watched everything before around episode 50 then it might be a little confusing how the storyline progressed to this point.
You should watch the empress of China, it’s really good.
I have never been made so uncomfortable by the sound of English. I was waiting for the subs to come up and it was nothing like that

@@jonsart5643 I would say yes, although certain plot of the drama kinda not that logic but it def will make you cry, no plot armor or any cliche. Also its quality is on par with some of the greatest movie. It is a must watch, periodt
@Jonah's Art Ruyi’s plots were easier to see through than Zhen Huan’s for me personally. The language is also less colorful than Zhen Huan’s but that won’t really matter if you rely on subs. The sets and costumes are less colorful then Zhen Huan’s but it’s all more detailed and historically accurate, though some of the hairstyles didn’t really work well. Zhou Xun and Wallace Huo’s acting is what really makes the drama worth a watch.
