Sidney Toiler or Warner Oland?
I'm good with either
They are both great
Warner Oland, read the credits, or look at the movie.
@@EJP286CRSKW yes but the question is Who's your favourite, not who is in it.
@@warg2122 Sidney Toler is my favorite.
I haven't seen a Charlie Chan movie that I did not like they are all equally outstanding and the great stars that play Charlie Chan including the sons and daughters and the rest of the cast members.....I have spent hours and hours being entertained by these movies watching them over and over again.
I am 90 years old and still watching Chariie Chan Movies every chance I get. THANKS SO MUCH
The same here.I have been watching since 1953 on tv. Loved them all.
Don't forget me! Ditto here ...
I absolutely Love the old Charlie Chan movies! I thank you for sharing them! I grew up watching them when I was a little girl! I'm 65 and still Love them today
We stayed at the Royal Hawaiiam Hotel in Honolulu. I know so.e of the old Charlie Chan movies were made there. Can I find out a by more info on them please. Let me know.
Yes,, I'm 76 and still watch those .movies and own so.e of them . My favorite character CF ter go play. Him was Sidney Toler.

Luv these Charlie Chan CLASSIC FILMS! Classic Films just sounds BETTER. Take care.
@@MichaelGunner123 Finally,a positive comment from you.Good form.
They sure don't make movies like they used to . I love the great classics .
I'm tired of today's movies and I've been enjoying the mystery comedies of the 30's and 40's as of lately. Entertaining with no special effects and relying on the story and acting abilities to make it happen
They never did make movies the way they used to. Why would they?

Always great entertainment. I am very glad that I found these movies.
I was expecting the beggar to be Sherlock Holmes.
No, it was Neville St Clair of course.

Yea man,you never knew what disguise Basil Rathbone would come busting out of.

The best about this episode was charlie really used and needed and appreciated his sons way of detecting it was nice to see the cooperation of all of the people working together to get case solved with justice and a bit of romance, too!!!!!!

Warner Oland became Charlie Chan in real life. The character grew on him!
ACTORS are the GREAT PRETENDERS which give the audience much pleasure.
Excellent Charlie Chan movie! 👍👍🦂🥂
Fabulous! Hello from Australia.....Thank you so much for this wonderful movie . I am a big fan of Charlie Chan movies and the high definition of this movie made it a real pleasure to watch. Best wishes to you!

ANOTHER WARM NIGHT HERE SO I LOVE THIS 1935 CLASSIC WITH A GREAT CAST TO ENJOY AND GREAT ACTORS WITH A GREAT STORY LINE............HE'S THE BEST...
Everyone has such beautiful manners in these old films.
Classic films!
I would rather watch old then 90% of the new ,movies they are lame
this movie is a great dramatic movie for a cold night. this is the first time i had the chance to view it ...it's great and i love the cast...
I agree with you totally, perfect movie for a cold October night. Enjoyed it immensely
So good. Quentessential Charli Chan. Tolier was not as personable for the role.
Opium peddlers! And they thought they could outwit Charlie Chan and the law!
Nobody can mess with the Chan Man! Loved this movie
I dare claim to be a distant relative of Warner Oland. My great grandfather was born 1882 in the same area in northern Sweden and was called Volmer Ölund. Warner Oland's real name was Verner Ölund and he was a few years older, they were not brothers, but cousins I think. The "vaguely asian" appearance runs in our family. When I was a kid other kids often asked my if I was "en jävla japan eller?" - "a bloody japanese or what?" Maybe it was meant as an insult, but I mostly just laughed it off.
This is the first full Charlie Chan movie I've watched, and it was actually pretty entertaining. Can't understand how Warner could get away with that accent, it's CLEARLY swedish, not chinese. Especially when he sings it's super obvious. Back in the day it was probably enough with just a foreign accent to be believable. Great audio btw.
I'm proud of Warner being my kin and him succeeding as one of the first swedish Hollywood stars. He took the role seriously and portrays Charlie in a sympathetic way, but maybe a bit too stereotypically asian. It's sad they couldn't cast a chinese actor for the role, but I think Warner did a very good job. I don't know if chinese people find these movies insulting and racialist, hope not.
TBlackDouglas: If you were really a relative of Warner you would have seen many of Charlie Chan movies not just suddenly now!
You need to withdraw...and learn the definition of racialist/racist.
The is no immense dislike or hate in this movie.
Warner Oland is the best Charlie Chan. The other one was kind of stuffy.
Chan had a nice singing voice!!!

I am 86 and still love all the Chariie Chan movies
Im 46 and these old movies interest me!
I wish you happiness and great health
Irony he just mentioned Fu Manchu in the dragon-slaying song. There is a theory the Insidious doctor is Chan's father.
Irene Hervey was one darn good looking young lady with a very captivating personality.
Glad to finally get to see it to the end was pretty good, for 2yrs it had so many intertuptions never saw the ending!!!!!!
What is this about

Of the 3 Vintage Movie Charlie Chan's my Preference is Sidney Toler.
These old shows/movies are far more healthy than the 'reality' garbage that we see on TV today. It shows how far our morals, use of language and spiritual development has fallen when compared together.
You have the choice of movies and shows from every period. Why are you looking at reality shows?
@@653j521 I do not watch the reality tv shows but my wife does so I end up getting introduced to that garbage and she has the right to watch whatever she wants so I am familiar with it. She knows how I feel about it so we have no problems over it and never argue the point. I do think she is wasting her time on it. As concerns your comment, it is a good example of assuming something based on very little information. I hope this clarifies things for you.
Earl Derr Biggers loosely based Charlie Chan on Hawaiian detective Chang Apana. Keye Luke played Master Po in the television series Kung Fu (1972-1975). Thank you for posting, enjoyable watching talent that is no longer with us. Las Vegas, NV Dec. 12, 2021

Amazing Warner Oland sang in Chinese melody so naturally. He was great performer !
I agree warner Orlando was the best I love all the movies even so
An antique but a very enjoyable one.
Although filmed many many years ago, those Charlie Chan movies are still fun to watch.
A very entertaining movie. Thank you for sharing it.
Glad you enjoyed it
In the 60's I watched Toler as Chan, I didn't even know of Oland, now that I've seen him I like his portrayal also, they both do great job, although Toler is who I think of when I picture CChan.
45:59 What could be more Chinese than a rickshaw? Well, pretty much anything actually invented in China. They are actually a late 19th-century innovation from Japan and "rickshaw" is a corruption of "jinrikisha" which means literally "man pulled vehicle". The Tokugawa Dynasty banned wheeled vehicles for most of its three-centuries of rule. The Meiiji Restoration which replaced it in 1868 lifted the ban, and the first jinrikishas appeared the next year. They rapidly spread to China, India, Southeast Asia, and even South Africa.
When my ship made a port call in Hong Kong in 1979, I saw only one rickshaw. It was part of a memorial. Rickshaws were illegal by there by then.
Thomas Sewell - Thank you for the history.

Very enjoyable movie to the very end !! Really need to set an hour or so when can watch entirety without disruption.....All the clues & intrigue come together well at very end !!
I wrote KEYE Luke. NOT KEYED Luke. Every time I hit the space bar it changes the letter as well as the entire word. i'm getting another phone, cuz I can't stand going through this any longer !!!!!!!
Keep typing past it....then go back and delete that portion.
Love the classics. After the end of the 60's everything started down hill fast. Nothing clean nothing wholesome. Those days are gone forever. At least we still have them in memory and movies.
You miss censorship, I see.
SeplFilmDhamaka👍🏼👍🏼 wonderful thank you for sharing I enjoyed this movie very much number one son didn't get in the way too much very good story thank you so much I love Charlie Chan🤗🙋🏼🇨🇦💕💕👍🏼👏🏼

Key Luke really is an action star in this one. He's a natural at acting, action and comedy. So funny to see the Westernization of his Chinese girlfriend on telephone call, too. I think the scene where Andrews socks the tied up man in chair gave Charlie Chan suspicion of him, least he had a surprised look. Sadly, Today, world still has drug smuggling problem as depicted in this movie. Thoroughly enjoyed every Charlie Chan film so far. Thank you for posting these !!
Chan’s hat would make a good feed bag for a horse
I love Sidney Toler but Warner is my Charlie Chan.
Nice film only spoiled by continual adverts breaking in. I make it a determined point not to purchase anything they are trying to sell.
Great movie!!! Thanks for posting!!!

A nice breeze on the balconey and a Gin Rickie sounds good. Love all Charlie Chan movies. They are very comfortable as if I belong to the era.
I totally agree!
Irene Hervey and singer Allan Jones were the parents of singer Jack Jones.
to many damn adds for me cant enjoy the movie
Early Rita Hayworth here then still known at Rita Cansino
Here where? She's in Charlie Chan in Egypt, not this one.
Hard to believe she was 16 when making this picture
Where in film? What role? Character's name?
Reminds me of being a kid we didn't have a cinema, used to love abbot and castello too
According to Wikipedia, Charlie Chan movies are mystery.
My mother love these. I can’t remember what actor who played Charlie she didn’t like but I enjoy all the movies
It was probably Roland WInters. He played Charlie Chan in The Golden Eye, which I saw recently. He was not up to the standard set by Toler and Oland, and was probably the last Chan movie made. or should've been.

There were a couple more (not so good)
actors after that. I won't bother researching

They never made Charlie chan again because the hero of the film was a Chinese one. All the other franchises movie made again in last few decades with different actors and stories except Charlie chan

honorable son did good in this one too
Is Charlie Chan the only detective who has a loving and supportive family????
Nick and Nora Charles had a marriage with one child but I can't think of any other detectives who had large families.
On the thin man Nick & Nora has a son
Well my dad's not a detective. 21

You don't have to have a LARGE family to have a LOVING family.
@@MichaelGunner123 True but I thought it noteworthy that he had any family at all. It seems most detectives are portrayed as bachelors.

Around 28 min the guy was wearing a uniform, and in the next scene he wasn't.
So, what's your point?
Too many commercials !! I got bored waiting for the movie !!
I actually love the old Warner Oland version of Charlie Chan and this is because he made it his business to know Chinese before they did some of the filming in in fact Shanghai and he claimed he came from a Asian mother Mongolian to be exact and there's been disputes on that grandmother not mother but he really was loved by the people in China they thought he was one of them and they said he really understood them well enough that they considered him Chinese, the only reason that whether its fox or its Warner Brothers or whatever back then they had whites playing Asians is because they could not have a scene where an Asian either hugged or kissed a person who was white it was against code as far as they were concerned Warner Oland having come from Sweden as far as they were concerned he was white, therefore permissible to play an Asian who might have to hug or or comfort a white woman in some way because anything else would not be allowed, however I've noticed a few things Warner Bros must have Warner Brothers or Fox I forget which it is it's probably Fox the company that was doing the Charlie Chanmovies were probably partially convinced that he had some Asian blood because they actually allowed him in one of the movies to hug and even kiss on the cheek is Charlie Chan's daughter, they would never have allowed it had they had some doubts as to how white he was.
