Sydney is 72 here. It is to be his last film. It was filmed in July and August of 1946. It, "The Trap," opened in November of '46. Sydney, born Hooper G. Toler Jr., died February 12, 1947, from a prolonged bout with intestinal cancer.
Just looked this one up - it was Toler's 22nd and final appearance as Chan, and his final film of any kind. He had cancer during his last few films and was often so weak that he could hardly walk or say his lines coherently. No wonder he seems more gruff and moves so slow in this one. Rest in Peace Sidney, and thanks for all the movies.
Toler made the best Chan for me. Look up how many films Mantan Moreland was in......through the roof. Mary Kornman of Our Gang was the niece of one of the other two Chan actors ( Warner Oland ?). She went on to be quite the actress in other later films with big name actors like John Wayne.

Sydney is 72 here and dying. He looks great for 72 though, right? Sadly, it is to be his last film. It was produced in July and August of 1946. "The Trap," opened in theaters in November of '46. Three months later, Sydney, born Hooper G. Toler Jr., died February 12, 1947, from a prolonged bout with intestinal cancer. Victor Sen Yung, Jimmy, Charlie Chan's son in this one, had an unusual life. He of course had his extensive film and TV career, but also, in 1972, he was on a hijacked plane. During that incident, he was inadvertently shot in the back by an FBI agent, as they stormed the plane to apprehend its hijackers. In 1975, he stumped the panel on To Tell the Truth, with his life story. His death too was unusual. He died from a gas leak from a kiln he used to fire his pottery creations. His body wasn't discovered for 9 days. He was 65.

The US movie industry has always been a reflection of US racially segregated society. Blacks, Latino and Asian descent people continue to fight ridicule and condescension.
Oh they still do the same characters on occassion often through their own chose. Whats really sad us the underwesr still hanging out in public and the horrible mysogynistic and drug hyping rap music just to be rich. Even the female rappers often humiliate themselves and others by association. Sad. Moreland was a funny comic.
Sigh. You need to watch more old movies, Paul Robeson movies.
What a tremendous BLACK actor and a singing voice like no other!
Boohoo cry some more
Like this guy play Charlie
That woman was awfully talky for a dying person. Still, it gave the highway patrol a chance to almost get there in time! Enjoyable, especially if you like girlish shrieking.🤷♀️
Por favor, consegue legendados ou dubladores, obrigado pela atenção vou ficar esperando.
Superman is in this one !
I like the intro music
What is it that is being blurred at the top right?
Some kind of logo I assume.
A normal sized car, usually able to hold three passengers in the back and two or three in the front, pulls up at a house, the car's doors open and 12 persons (at least!) troop out! In fact, an endless amount of people get out!!!
i did that in a vw bug: a girl scout troope out to rescue a stuck in mud american monster 1973...
okala natl forest lake four thank you, ladies
I counted 10 from car entering house.....That looks like a 3 bench seat station wagon of the day, so film continuity not too bad.....
Cars of the era where massive, you could seat 4 to five people per seat so the group could easily fit. That was true even in the fifties.
Just a tad bit of overacting by some of the girls. Otherwise, I love Charlie Chan!
Too many ads, this is why I no longer watch TV....so long!
Add block is available
WAY TOO MANY ADS!
Too many commercials I asked you
Between 43.14 and 43.43 the letter appears to gain a stamp.
Say, looks like they laid a trap for ol' Chan. But I have a feeling he'll find his way out, as only Chan can.
Not enough commercials!!!
WHOOPS , I LEFT THIS REVIEW FOR THE MOVIE, DANGEROUS MONEY, BY MISTAKE. I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS ONE YET.
It's a great one too.
too many adverts
(Where is Warner Oland and Bruce Humberstone when you need them?)
Sydney Toler, 1946? Is this Sydney Toler's last film?
Has anybody taken up the mantle of our favorite detective since then? It's long overdue for another iteration of Earl Derr Biggers character. Don't you agree? Eight minutes in and I'm bored to tears!
(This had to be Toler's last Chan, it wasn't cancer that took him from us, it was shame. This is lame.) SMH...
much evidence of "emotional basket cases"
that one woman going hysterical all the time was way over the top.
From what I read sgt was first Superman.
yes Kirk alyn
and now a word from our movie, I do enjoy the movie but having to hang next to Computer just to click on skip ads is not fun.
Mr King I don't know if you're interested (and I mean no disrespect to anyone by mentioning this), but there are free apps available that will block ads on youtube. You can use them at your discretion. If this is unhelpful or in any way offensive to you, please excuse me.
