These movies were, dare I say it, progressive for their time. It's almost as though political correctness doesn't understand context or nuance.

In this film (which had a very unusual-for CC-twist), Charlie's vest was like Batman's utility belt. Let's see, he pulls out a pocketknife, a gun, a flashlight, AND a telescope! OK, so the pocketknife came from his pants pocket, but it COULD have come from his vest!
You have to love the writing for Chan's vintage axioms. The boat captain says "a man walks out on a fortune seven years ago, then all of a sudden he appears from nowhere to claim it, I'd say that's a little tough on the Colby heirs, if he's alive"- and Charlie Chan replies that it's a tough on Alan Colby, if dead"-too good.
There's always someone blaming poor old Charlie Chan for 'letting' someone get killed. Because the 17 cops and other assorted officials also on the scene and guarding the victim are totally blameless.
To bad there are no new detective movies The closest to me is Colombo but they play the repeats so manny times have seen all of them To bad Colombo always hooks on to a suspect and no other suspect to investigate for the crime !Charley has many suspects it makes for suspense !
Absolutely enjoy these old "who dunnits" they're dialog is wonderful! I cannot stand the filth they try to pass off as dialog these days now!! Thank so much y'alls!😄😃.
How perfectly horrible. The villain sat up smiling, everybody clapped, and the butler went on being hilarious for nearly breaking his neck, going without sleep, being sneered at and shot to the delight of the audience until he was forgotten two-thirds or so through the show. And the villain triumphed! I could cheerfully kick this film in the can! (Just this one, cuz I love Charlie Chan.)

Seriously, your daughter lost something of YOURS that she BORROWED. She shld 'WOMAN - UP' & replace them w a new set. That's what a REAL daughter would do. Enjoy & God Bless.
Warner Oland is so good as Charlie - just a bit of an accent - very respectful of the character. great comedic character, too.. they always do this so well in all the Charlie Chan pictures. miss Number One son though :) 😋🌷 I did know one thing at the end. just didn't fit Chan plots :)
Great. A Charlie Chan movie I had not seen before. Crisp footage and sound. Better yet the little comic relief was by Baxter the butler Not the annoying son or chauffeur who brought way to much and to long on comedy to Chan movies.
Interesting background trivia that most people today would not understand. Alan Colby was taken prisoner during The Rif War (1921 to 1926). France entered the war in 1924 after a massive attack by the Riffians that destroyed 40 of 66 French outposts in Morocco resulting in the French deployment of the famed French Foreign Legion.
These are the best Charlie Chan movies with good production values and starring Warner Oland, the best of all the Charlie Chans.

CLASSIC FILM!
~~~LOL~~~ perfectly put :) 🌷
So many good movies, yet so little time. 😕
We make time for those things we ENJOY/LIKE/DEEM IMPORTANT.
Man who say Charlie Chan is the man have big juicy steak for breaking fast.
You have to love the writing for Chan's vintage axioms. The boat captain says "a man walks out on a fortune seven years ago, then all of a sudden he appears from nowhere to claim it, I'd say that's a little tough on the Colby heirs, if he's alive"- and Charlie Chan replies that it's a tough on Alan Colby, if dead"-too good.
Charlie chan never needs help.feb2021.
Herbert Mundin as the butler, Baxter was really a gas! 😆
love Charlie Chan, Warner Oland was the first but not the last
The modesty of Chan is something one does not see in today's cops. Those pigs could learn something here.
I agree with u Cargo......change takes a little time so it does
There's always someone blaming poor old Charlie Chan for 'letting' someone get killed. Because the 17 cops and other assorted officials also on the scene and guarding the victim are totally blameless.
MrAlumni72 they are liberals
To bad there are no new detective movies The closest to me is Colombo but they play the repeats so manny times have seen all of them To bad Colombo always hooks on to a suspect and no other suspect to investigate for the crime !Charley has many suspects it makes for suspense !
Qué bien conservada están estas películas 🎥 antiguas 😮gracias por compartir y éxitos en todos vuestros proyectos y planes
Absolutely enjoy these old "who dunnits" they're dialog is wonderful! I cannot stand the filth they try to pass off as dialog these days now!!
Thank so much y'alls!😄😃.
That is Mr. Dithers from the later Blondie and Dagwood films
Not.
@@thomasokeefesr6022 what do you mean "not"
I love these movies. 😀
Great CLASSIC FILMS!
OMG this reminds me of the movie Murder by Death with peter sellers as Sydney wang.....sam spade is sam diamond....you catch the drift..
How perfectly horrible. The villain sat up smiling, everybody clapped, and the butler went on being hilarious for nearly breaking his neck, going without sleep, being sneered at and shot to the delight of the audience until he was forgotten two-thirds or so through the show. And the villain triumphed! I could cheerfully kick this film in the can! (Just this one, cuz I love Charlie Chan.)
I bought this series online via Walmart.com...my daughter borrowed them and lost them in a move. I may have to order again; but ever so thankful they have been uploaded and shared.
Your irresponsible daughter should replace them. She borrowed. She lost. She owes.
Seriously, your daughter lost something of YOURS that she BORROWED. She shld 'WOMAN - UP' & replace them w a new set. That's what a REAL daughter would do. Enjoy & God Bless.
I'm and old guy, I loved these back in the 60's, still like the old Charlie Chan
Thanks for sharing.
Warner Oland is so good as Charlie - just a bit of an accent - very respectful of the character. great comedic character, too.. they always do this so well in all the Charlie Chan pictures. miss Number One son though :) 😋🌷
I did know one thing at the end. just didn't fit Chan plots :)
Great. A Charlie Chan movie I had not seen before. Crisp footage and sound. Better yet the little comic relief was by Baxter the butler Not the annoying son or chauffeur who brought way to much and to long on comedy to Chan movies.
Excellent twist/ surprise ending
Wasn’t there another Alan Colby In a different Charlie Chan movie? How many times is this guy gonna get murdered?? Lol still love these who dunnits .
Alan Colby has a Siamese Twin, and they're joined at the script.
Lee Larson oh that explains everything. Lol
Black and white films are always more intriguing.
this is the last charllie chan movie that i have let escape me over the years,for good reason.oct2019.
the biggest secret Charlie Chan had, was half his kids looked like the milkman, Charlie was always out of town
I like it much better without Number 1, Number 2, or the daughter, or Birmingham. Here, the action was more to the point. Thank you for sharing.
Monique Cardell To tell the truth, I agree with you.
I always enjoyed it more with the sons.
Wise man once say, he who eat curry must not strike match
And man who eats many prunes gets good run for money.
Interesting background trivia that most people today would not understand. Alan Colby was taken prisoner during The Rif War (1921 to 1926). France entered the war in 1924 after a massive attack by the Riffians that destroyed 40 of 66 French outposts in Morocco resulting in the French deployment of the famed French Foreign Legion.
