Maguire goes and starts and I don’t think it’s that deep, yes he’s prone to a mistake and isn’t playing much atm but he played in a back 4 throughout the euros and made team of the tournament and was really good

as a liverpool fan i currently think it would be nuts to take gomez on current form, he's had a great 2 or 3 games yes, but i don't think that should warrant him a place over players like tomori. if gomez continues to play like this for the next 7 games then he should get the opportunity, but if the squad was picked right now i dont think he's done quite enough to make it in
Overall ok, but Tomori's been the best English CB in the last year and you have multiple CBs who haven't even started club football for a while over him. You mentioned Joe Gomez being in on form and he's been playing pretty poorly for nearly the whole year

I think Tomori should be starting let along a provisional option. He’s our best CB COMFORTABLY. People are judging him on his worst games arguably ever against Chelsea. Between those Chelsea games he was still in incredible form
Chalobah has been playing really well at both cb and cdm for Chelsea. He won't go but he should.

I think this shows how difficult it is for Southgate to actually pick a squad without being criticised. No matter what, someone quality has to miss out, that's just how it is

Because Coady has lots of experience in a back 3 and is a great leader. And trust me if Coady was as AC Milan and Tomori at Everton, you would prefer Coady

Overrated by chelsea fans, plays in a poor league and gets sent off/plays poor when he’s up against top opposition.
Serie A is deceiving especially when it comes to defenders. Tomori isn’t as good as most prem defenders, same applies to Smalling too, there’s a reason they were loaned out in the first place

So yes there are better prem CBs Bit Most of them arent english. I think tomori should at least make the squad as he will bring alot of confidence from being in great form which isnt given with most other english defenders

Just taking Tomori on provisional is criminal, he should be starting. He’s arguably been the best English cb this whole year
Eric Dier has performed better in my opinion. For Chalobah to not be in conversation is the most criminal for me. he hasn't lost a premier League game in the 24 he has played for Chelsea... And has had 5/5 clean sheets under Potter. He's in ridiculous form and has played at every level of the England youth system so isn't an unrealistic choice

Chris Smalling is so underrated. Any other manager, and him and Tomori would start. Joe Gomez played a blinder v City. If Joe’s back, then he’s also a starter. Luke Shaw has United’s LB position back from Malacia.
This is just such an ignorant comment. Smalling does not fit England styles of play, he can’t pass out from the back and hasn’t been involved in an England squad for years. Tomori has been shaky this season for Milan, particularly against Chelsea. Southgate clearly rates experience, Maguire and Stones haven’t let him down!!

It’s the England system that he’s talking about. Southgate is more familiar with Stones, dier, white, Coady is a good leader, Walker ofc. Tomori is great don’t get me wrong, I think Southgate is going with the players that has more experience playing under the Southgate’s system

Gomez over Tomori is a joke. Tomori had 2 bad games against Chelsea. Gomez had only bad games and 1 good game against City. And remember at the World Cup you play against international players. Gomez was destroyed by the likes of Napoli who has players from different countries. Tomori is champion in Italy meanwhile.
Also even if Philips comes back from the injury he has no right to play because he didn't play at all for City this season. He's played just a couple of minutes of official football in the last 5 months or so. Again weird to even consider him tbh. And a similar argument is valid for Maguire. He only played in a couple of disaster classes and then got injured. And he was in just as worse form at the end of last season. Nothing warrants his place at the moment.

@@AhmedAli-1239 Loftus cheek makes more sense in southgates plans though. Gives him more versatilty in spaces we're weakest at (dm, and rwb). Not to mention that RLC starts every week and CG doesn't.
@@ethan_c223 RLC has been in top form for sure, i think JWP is very unlikely to go, hes playing in a Terrible Southampton team atm and isnt looking great himself either. I think 1 of the 2 chelsea boys go, maybe both. RLC would for me, not to mention hes played WB for chelsea a fair few times this season, with a lack of english RB's rn seems very smart.

I reckon loftus cheek will sneak into the squad, he's been fantastic this season and could prove useful considering his versatility.

Eze is missing on the list but I think you've got everyone else. He was close to going to the Euros before a late injury. In great form, could sneak in

Mark my word here, RLC will go if he is fit , he is the best option to rotate with Bellingham’s spot , hendo is the back up for Rice . RLC has been the best CM under potter arguably, performed better than kovacic and Jorginho. Southampton is not doing well this season and JWP is not comfortable on keeping the ball. RLC can dribbles break the line , physicality to protect the ball on his feet.
Tomori is genuinely better than every single English CB other than stones. It’s genuinely hilarious not having him in the squad 😂😂

The fact that Southgate will probably take 2, 5, 6, 7, 11 and 12 as his CB options says a lot about him as a manager and our likelihood of success at the WC
It never fails to amaze me how good our attacking options are. The quality of some of the players who will be left out is mental

Joe Gomez over tomori is one of the worst shouts I’ve ever seen. 4th choice cb at Liverpool over probably the 1st choice Milan cb makes no sense at all.
I don’t think it’s much of a doubt who he will take for the final squad, Southgate has favourites, form doesn’t seem to be part of southgates thinking, it will all depend on potential injuries whether people miss out
Lewis Dunk is literally a better defender than most of the centre backs Southgate will pick

I can't believe Eze is not getting a shout, personally he has the capability to be the 10 for England and provide the spark we desperately need in attack. He should be on that plane ahead of both Mount and Maddison (or one with Eze).
Tomori is one of our best centre back and starts all day. Ignored just because he plays in the Serie A.
Ben White is a must, only down side is that his back pocket might weigh him down too much with Son, Zaha, Diaz, Jota etc all being in there.

If I'm Tomori and Maguire takes my place at the world cup, I'd think about switching allegiances, because that would be outrageous. Maguire does play well in an England shirt but Tomori is the future and really should be playing. Also, I hope Gomez is fit and picked because I think without his injury troubles, he would be a nailed on starter for England at this point and be one of the best centre halves available to us.
I get what you mean about maguire and England but the euros was last year and since then he’s been a train wreck domestically and even for England in the friendlies (especially against Germany) there’s no reason he should go as a starter, maybe a back up at this point but tomori starts over maguire if anyone else was manager but Southgate’s too blinded by loyalty. Loyalty is a good thing until it goes too far to the point where it’s literally damaging the team😂😂

That’s the point. He may not be back for the wc. Spencer explained why it would be a risk to take him. They have Trent, who is a great alternative to James, and you can’t have 2 injury risks on the plane
