    Nice! I have some similar gear. The Silky saw, I don’t use the case so I can save a few ounces😀. One of my packs is the Zpacks ArcHaul, and I have had water get into it in a heavy rain, so I always put my quilts and clothes into a contractor bag. I have a new hammock being made to replace my warbonnet because I want one with pack hooks for the uq

      I haven’t been in any downpours yet with the zpacks yet. It holds up great to light rain so far. With that being said, everything that needs to stay dry is gonna stay in a bag lol. I used to have my saw out of the case until I switched to the zpacks. I keep the saw in the mesh pocket on the outside and I didn’t want to risk tearing the mesh on a corner of the saw. I’m 230 lbs I can probably handle the 2-3oz of the case lol

    I never picked up on or just maybe ignored the different designations for Mohican State Park and Forest. This does cause some issues when trying to find out information on the trails and sites. The sites by the way are still closed (as of 11/12/22) because of storm damage, found that out the hard way by driving all the way down there!
    I did contact the Forest Service asking them to maybe post this on the front page of their site, it would be nice to know. Hopefully these sites open back up but who knows when that will be. These sites are great for quick over nighters and winter camping/gear testing.
    Finally, I should have picked up on this already but Semper Fi and happy belated Veterans Day weekend to you!

      Yeah I feel ya there man. I knew about the tornado and the sites being down for quite a while. It blows my mind it’s not more apparent on the website. You’re not the first person I’ve heard from that showed up there only to find out they’re closed. Thanks for watching dude, SF.

      @@Bacon_N_Backpacking well a few emails later and the ODNR Forestry Service has now updated the website to indicate the sites are closed.
      They told me they will be working over the winter to get these sites cleaned up and safe.
      Thought I’d give an update.

    One thing that I think would be good to consider is to use trekking poles, especially for new hikers. Any kind of water crossing and steep inclines/declines, they are worth their weight in gold!! Great vid again!! 😎

    Hey man. Great video. I love those woobies. I have one from Savage Tacticians. I just wished they had a higher neck zipper to protect from the wind. Anyway, I'm from NE Ohio as well but live in the Columbus area. There's some decent hiking in SE Ohio. I used to backpack at Zakeski State Forest a lot back in the day. Overused but convenient. I'm with you on not being able to sleep on the ground anymore. Might have to look into a hammock setup if I decide to get back into the game. BTW, check out the Schill Brothers Outdoors channel. They are good local friends with a great channel. 🍻

      I’ve done quite a few trips in southern Ohio. All of the backpacking trails in the state are down there. I’ve done a few trips to Vesuvius, Zaleski and Wayne National Forest. I’ve actually tried to contact SBO and Bryce Newbold via instagram to see when they’re doing another RUclips meet up. Neither of them responded, probably because I have a new channel lol, but I’d definitely like to meet up with some of the other Ohio backpackers at some point.

      I love Mohican. It’s the only thing in the state that’s remotely close to me (2 hours) so I probably do 4-6 trips there per year.

    goretex is a meme on any trip over a day or two because when your feet get wet (and they will get wet at some point) your boots won't dry for the rest of the trip. good leather boots that have been greased are far better imo as they will breath way better meaning you will sweat less and they are about as waterproof unless you are standing around in a puddle. however if its over 50-60f i find any boots other than jungle boots are extremly hot and sweaty to the point where my feet are dryer if i wear jungle boots all day even if im crossing streams (out here in pa you practically trip over water) than if i wear goretex or greased leather boots just due to how much i sweat in those boots and they never dry out and thats only when water doesnt flow in over the top. also the fact that you spent $600 on two quilts is baffling to me but you do you. i will definitely have to check out those peak meals they look pretty good. overall pretty good video very interesting to see what others pack.

    • @Bacon_N_Backpacking
      @Bacon_N_Backpacking  2 года назад +1

      To be honest I haven’t had any issues with my feet being wet from the goretex boots soaking through. Not saying it can’t happen, just that it hasn’t. I like goretex for winter for the insulation and the fact I can step in water that’s about 6” deep without getting wet and don’t have to slow down. As far as the quilts, they’re 950 fill and 60” wide with a zipper foot box. Storage sacks came with them, pad attachments in the event I want to be a ground dweller, plus I got to custom select my colors for everything. About $350-400 is the going rate per quilt from what I’ve seen with those parameters.

      @@Bacon_N_Backpacking i have sweaty feet however i bet the fact that you are in ohio and i am in hilly pa probably has something to do with it i literly can not walk more than like 1km from my house in any direction without hitting a stream or river many of which are over 6inchs and many feet wide so unless i want to take 10 minutes to cross a river my boots are gonna get wet

    • @Bacon_N_Backpacking
      @Bacon_N_Backpacking  2 года назад +2

      Yeah man situation always dictates. In my Archer’s Fork video I had to cross a 12-16” deep creek. In that situation I just take my boots off and dry off with a towel. Idk I’ve been very happy with my goretex boots. I’ve used them on 20 trips the last year and never had wet feet. Not saying I’m “right” but they’ve served me pretty well thus far. I’ll probably rock trail runners in the summer this year and just take them off and towel dry if the need arises I guess lol

    • @Bacon_N_Backpacking
      @Bacon_N_Backpacking  Год назад

      Bad news. The park and pack sites have been closed over a year due to a tornado ripping through the area. There are a ton of trails there, including a 26 mile mountain bike loop that are still worth hiking. The campgrounds are still open, so that’s an option, but the backcountry sites are all down. Let me know if you want any alternatives. Thanks for watching!
