Forgot to mention 1) you can use sucrose with his melt teams because the EM sharing is very good. The grouping isn’t as nice which is one of the main reasons to use kazuha but especially against enemies where strong CC isn’t as improtant , sucrose would be a great choice 2) for freeze be careful when you NA or he will shatter 3) to use with wrio try sac sword Chong with benent/xiangling
a big thing i think you missed is lavawalker on his reverse melt teams, since he always hits pyro affected ennemies, but also for the burn-melt teams the 40% resistance to pyro from lavawalker will actually be usefull in surviving the burn damage
@@bahriceylan5199 you can run freeze comp: furina-chongyun-cryo flex-anemo flex. One of the flexes has to be a healer: jean, sayu, Charlotte, mika etc. The other flex is doing damage like kaeya, rosaria, ayaka or grouping like sucrose, kazuha, venti. You can also run dendro comp with kuki or raiden and baizhu or yaoyao. But basic comp is chongyun furina healer+someone who provides either utility or dps
I can still remember my early days playing him with snowtombed silver and water sword boi. To this day he is still one of my favorite characters even though i dont use him a lot anymore.

That's the team I use 😁 Chongyun, Kaeya, Kazuha, Kokomi. Even if I have Ayaka and Rosaria, too, I use Kaeya as my main in the freeze team, and Chongyun is my sub dps
Not just charge attack. Kaeya still has the highest NA multiplier in the game for sword users... I'm pretty sure for all weapons excluding claymores but I can't remember that as clearly.

I remember the time when Chongyun was my only cryo dps. I used him for a good while. Thereafter I pulled ayaka, and I made chongyun her support with sacrificial and noblesse oblige. After that I pulled shenhe and now I can switch between both of them to have fun with whoever I want at a time. And now I pulled wrio..... I'm a sucker for cryo LOL. I can make 2 cryo teams by now.
Since the dawn of time in Gesnhin, Chongyun has been my cryo DPS, not by meta reasons obviously, but for how fun he is for me with the CD reduction and cryo infusion.
I think claymore characters in general are so fun. Chongyun/Diluc/Sayu/beidou.... Really a lot of fun characters people miss out on for ''best dps''. Chongyun can clearly 36 star abyss. There is not even a contest between characters for the endgame lol. As long as they can clear.
@@artaleasham4105 I recently started playing and have been having so much fun with permafrezze team of rosaria, xingqiu, sucrose and chongyun/kaeya. This has been a lot more fun than when I tried building the national team (with diona instead of Bennet as i don't have him) which everyone says is one of the strongest 4 star comps.
Chongyun literally is a special case, like in-paper he just have that originality going on for him which looks strong; free Cryo infusion, ATK speed bonus, Cryo-res shred, low energy burst nuke with no ICD in every hit, and the rarest decrease skill CD inside his skill via constellation, he sounds that all what he offers for a support are great but is "too unique" for the standards of today's META or in short everything that he gives from his skill is irrelevant because the units who can Buff numbers or Damage alone are much more valuable unfortunately and his burst is a scream nuke which is unfortunate for Cryo's reactions for which most of the units are persistent for driving reactions with exceptions of Aloy and Wriothesley bursts, as Chongyun's burst can only take advantage on Melt reaction. But honestly, after everything what going on with him, his such a fun character to mess around.
As a Chongyun main, I can say I've tried a lot of his teams and I can assure anyone reading this that Burning Melt, Melt and National are indeed his best 3 teams, but he is still usable in all the other teams you've mentioned Honestly, I've watched (almost) every Chongyun guide to see if they're good, and this one is the best one by a landslide. Really appreciate the research and effort put into this!
I personally love Chongyun. His character design is one of the best, his idle animations are cute and fun, his voice is sweet (being voiced by one of my favorite jp vas), his personality overall is way too adorable, his relationship with Xingqiu is wholesome, his interaction with his aunt is also wholesome, etc. I have more reasons to play him than the "he is not meta" logic. Just build him well. Any character can be good as long as you invest into them and give them their best teams.
Chongyun's burst is one of my favorite burst in the game because of how low-cost it is, quick animation, and burst dmg. With my own Chongyun build, his burst is actually stronger than my Zhongli's burst but minus the crowd control and long animation.
Chongyun was the first lvl 90 I had. Triple crowned him and gave him the best artifacts. I still use Chongyun as my main DPS and was trying to update him recently. Thank you!
100% agree!! Once I discovered Chong, I INSTANTLY loved his ultra smooth animations and quick elemental/burst moves. IMO he feels like one of the most smoothly designed characters in the game, so its a shame that he doesn't get more life. So many of the other original 4 stars are still broken today (or in Fischl's case, even more broken than ever) but Chong is just out there alone fighting evil spirits with his pure yang
I use a lot of old-school national with Chongyun as my on fielder. I care little about meta or spiral abyss so I typically just stick with characters I like and Chongyun is probably one of the coolest characters IMO, his animations are sleek and stylish whether form an idle or burst animation, even his skill though simple just look so cool when you string it together into a combo.
So chonyun. Fun little combat trick you can do with him an the battle pass crit bow: have him use his alt frerzing eneiemes mid air an then pop the bow, an then pop his alt again. By doing this his alt causes the eneimes to pop back up in the air creating double fall damage for the enemies. Its something very few characters in the game can reliably do effectively an efficiently. An chonyun is the perfect character for this. His alt is low cost an comes back fast, an more importantly it literally targets a enemy of your choice cause you can target with it an pops them back up onto the air while also freezing them while taking fall damaage as well. Quicly unfreeze an they get fall damage again. Not the easiet weapon skill combo to pull off granted, it takes practice. But once you see the potential an figure out the best rotations an combos an teams for it, theres no going back. I read thtough alot of the comments an im not completely sure, but i didnt see anyone eles mention the benefits of chonyun an this weapon skill combo rotation that hes basically the best at doing, for freeze anyway. So i figured I'd mention it. Hope that helps peeps.
My un-built chongyun just helped me 36star abyss for the very first time on my 3rd account today. I cleared abyss before on 2 other accounts which i gave away more than a year ago. This is the first time i cleared, let alone 36starred abyss on this account.
On the topic of Freeze teams, you gotta keep in mind that as a Claymore user he Shatters, so you need to he careful with that. Or just be a based Shatter Chongyun player
I used to play shatter chongyun back in the day with xingqiu because I wanted them to stay together. I still slap him into my Kaeya freeze team sometimes. It’s sad older characters are often getting ignored nowadays :(
Chongyun was my main back in the days just because I love him and loved the idea of playing a „non-DPS“! Plus him being a 4* made me more determined of making it work. I got a couple of other DPSs now but Chongyun is and will forever be my main Cryo dps (as Kaeya is my physical main)
I have Rosaria and Kaeya, but never built them because i don't really find them "cool" enough. Now I have finally grabbed Chongyun from the lantern Rite and built him as my Cryo DPS. He is so fun to play!
it's not an OR, it's an AND. if you haven't got meta characters, chongyun and rosaria/kaeya form a great freeze team (still using it on floor 12 when the content asks for it)
Ah, Chongyun, after getting Shenhe I got him on standered. Mono cryo was really fun in Inazuma, agains electro charatcers it was pretty amazing. And his family synergy is the rare wholesome team-building options in the game.
3:34 I don't think he's the same level as Rosaria. At low investment she provides up to 15% crit rate to her team. At higher investment she does a respectable amount of damage. She also deals 2 instances of damage on both skill and burst making her a great fav procker, especially since you already want to build her with high crit rate. And with fav being all the er you really need she's cheap to build too. Adding to that, cryo really only has freeze in terms of meta viability. When it works, Chongyun doesn't. His claymore attacks shatter enemies and him giving an elemental infusion isn't really something that's useful unless you have a c6 shenhe.
I think chongyun has a very fun kit. I enjoy using him even with all the 5 stars i have now. My favorite team is Yae, Kokomi and Kazuha the fourth slot if flexible and i like to use him there, allowing kazuha to apply cryo and giving him more on field value despite not beeing build as a dps. I can highly recommend using him and i'm grateful that you draw attention to him with thus video again.
For me, this is the team i use: Chongyun - Shenhe - Kazuha - Bennett.. Since chongyun here is mainly used as a burst dps, because of his high burst dmg & low energy cost, i can get his burst every rotation.. Since his burst can melt every swords.. and Bennett burst has high elemental gauge.. I always use Bennett burst to chongyun burst to fully melt his burst..
chongyun, the only version 1.0 4* that was balanced as a 4*. his normal attacks being so low scaling truly showed how he was supposed to be a skill/burst oriented support. love this kid, triple crowned him and never looked back cause the melts were too good 🤟🏾 - edit: Emblem or Lavawalker chongyun if you have a c6 bennett is a great option
Xiangling, Xinqiu, and Chongyun are the first National team . Bennett is also included in the team. Xiangling is the on-field , because she is a polearm type character and when she is on the field with Chongyun's e-skill, she can apply Cryo element faster through her normal attacks. This will help with the Melt of Xiangling's burst and the Freeze of Xingqiu's burst. Bennett serves as a buffer and healer in the team.

@@blastzd Dude there's the reason why everyone says Sucrose is a good unit while ppl very rarely use her. She is good on paper, while in practice she is a pain to use. Chongyun is much more forgiving and easy to use. And Chongyun national is not the worst national team, when Heizou exists
I love using Chongyun. His teams are rather flexible. My favorite team is Him, Shenhe, Lynette, and Dehya. If you time your rotations correctly you can melt all of Chongyun's burst right when Dehya's skill hits at the same time. It's so much fun. Plus if you use Lynette's burst as cryo you can immediately swap to Dehya after Chongyun's burst to use her burst to get melts from her as well. Proper rotations also allow you to just rely on Dehya and Lynette to heal themselves so you can repeatedly burst with Chongyun and Shenhe
5:46 Amber is a substitute for Nahida. Going Amber burst -> Chongyun burst should rev melt all of Chongyun's burst hits. Obviously she's not as strong as Nahida since no EM buff unless you're whaled out with stuff like Elegy Bow or c6 Amber. Also, Nahida is 1.5U Dendro, not 2U, but the point still stands that she offers more Dendro.
Yup, all other off-field dendro only applies 1U. The exception is Kirara's burst with 2U (and 1U mini bombs), although i don't think it's more reliable than a refreshed Nahida's skill (2x 1.5U) on the first triggered Melt.
honestly i used to use chongyun a TON when i first started, and even now I use him sometimes like if i want to play an on-field shenhe team it just feels crazy how slept on he is in the general community for how fun and easy he feels
Chongyun is actually pretty good with Sacrificial Greatsword- it lets you control his second passive to some extent. When his E expires, he drops another blade that deals 200%+ damage, and only one of his frost fields can exist at a time. So, if you use his E twice in a row, you get the field and deal the damage.
Bennett is my main DPS and I always pair him with Chongyun because their synergy is so good: Chongyun's C2 for cd-reduction with his skill. Add that with (not C6) Benny's very shortened cd with his skill (+cryo infusion from Chongyun's skill), and Benny becomes a quick melt machine gun. Then for even additional boost, Kazuha and/or another cryo character for the resonance.
been my main for years, he hits like a truck and makes hydro shields obsolete. i use him as an on-fielder and normal attack with him, and am able to melt his normals. i could talk about this boy all day. one of two triple-crowned characters i currently have (kazuha being the other one, will triple crown wrio as well), and he has such a special place in my heart. hes not any more worth it than other cryo characters like kaeya and rosaria, but if youre looking for a change of pace or are looking for a cryo dps hes an excellent choice
Chongyun was a mainstay in my earliest teams, and was the first two four-star characters I got off of Standard Banner. He yet _remained_ at C1 until these banners. I got him around 2.8! Something like one-and-a-quarter years, and he's finally hit C2, my white whale. Time to build and reintroduce... Well, if I could tear myself away from the comfort of Hyperbloom+Shield.
Another thing is that Chongyun is pretty much the only character who can make full use of sunfire Jean. The pyro application is so good it basically guarantee melt on every hit of his burst, with VV buff.
He was my main DPS for a long time through the early game. Ran him with Rainslasher until I finally got a Sac, lol. Second character I levelled to 90 after MC, and I still love playing him...especially now with the current banner I now have him C6 :)
What I have accepted with genshin is that if you build any character Correctly and have good CV that character can be good no matter role they have because player can mix match artifact, healer can be DPS and DPS can be support The only beauty i keep reminding myself because artifact farming is hell
This abyss w the seahorse, chongyun was my reason for 36 stars, idk if I'm lucky to have the team and artifacts he needed but that seahorse shield, my god
I used chongyun through first and second patches, only just now learning that his skill converts attacks into cryo. i clearly never read the skills properly.
TO everyone who says "Just use Ayaka" or "Just use Rosaria" have you ever considered people dont use those characters bc 1) they dont have them or 2) they dont want them? There is absolutely no point in comparing characters. Zero. Zilch. Unless you are a collector who wants every character in the game or a person who specifically pulls the strongest character of every element, comparisons add nothing to the game. Guides like these are extremely useful and helpful! Personally I am a cryo main and have been running around Teyvat with Kaeya, Chongyun, Mika, etc. (Frem and Wrio now too) and YES I havent seen any Chongyun guides on this platform. So THANK YOU for actually building and testing every character. These are helpful for those who play our forgotten heroes >>>>>> Meta :)

I specifically haven't activated the C6 for my Bennett because I main Chongyun and I know Bennett's burst would override Chongyun's skill which would absolutely screw me personally. I've found Chongyun to be my go-to Cryo character since I started, he's the only character who I've used any crowns on (yes I am hoarding crowns for no reason). So glad to finally see a video putting some respect on my main's name. I have him, Xingqiu, Bennett and Kazuha all built to 90 and they're a go-to abyss team if I don't feel like using my brain. Works pretty well for me lol. I've also been experimenting with a team utilizing him, Freminet, Fischl and Xingqiu for some Shatter reaction fun in overworld. I did 3☆ floor 9 with that team actually lmao. If you wanna build him for a "Burst Build" definitely give him r5 Luxurious Sealord if you have it. He works quite well in quick-swap and as a sub-dps or support. (C6 isn't necessary but is a definite perk if you're doing Burst Build) Honestly if I get Nahida on her next banner I'll have to try a variation of the Burn/Melt team, it looks lowkey super fun.
i just came back to the game after a very long time away and as a casual f2p player i don't have a lot of characters or a lot of constellations. but for some reason, my chongyun is way ahead of everyone else: he's c4, no one else is even c2. so i've been running him as a sub-dps for an Ayaka i got a lucky pull on last time i played and he's been doing well for himself. even with just a casual player's investment, his burst is almost always ready on cooldown and he hits like a truck. and once i get my brand new bennet and xingqui leveled up, they'll open up a lot of options for him
I stopped using Chongyun way back in 1.4 when Rosaria was released. He is built though. I used him the other day in old school national for kicks. Dude is still strong.
I think Chongyun suffers 2 curses: replaceability and being a claymore user. There are so many options for cryo damage between Ayaka, Ganyu, Shenhe, Kaeya, and Rosaria. Recently Wriothesley got added to that list as well. That's not to mention that you can be meta without the cryo element (I love my Ayaka too much to do that though). Add to that lower damage output (although the frontloading may compensate for that in some cases) and a weapon that feels slow and I can see why Chongyun is slept on. I'm personally going for Ayaka and Rosaria for my cryo damage (I may pull for Shenhe when she reruns), but I think this video may convince others to give our pure-yang buddy a shot
I got my Chongyun built with wolf gravestone, 4 pc blizzard, 30/170 crit, almost 3k attack, and I use Diona, Xingnqiu, and Kazuha for his team. (I'm slowly working on Shenhe for him). He clears that new artifact domain quickly with minimum dmg. He's c4 now too :D I love my bby yunyun.
Bennent is replaceable with Thoma for more consistant pyro application in burn-melt teams, C1 Shenhe lets you hold e and auto with Chonyun after burst rotation
I'm so glad to see Chongyun videos pop up because of the recent poetry event. he had a lot of screentime since he wasn't just Xingqiu's shadow. anyone think we'll get revelations about his yang energy in the future? hope so. Chongyun main here since the Noelle banner. he's my only cryo dps and has cleared the Abyss for me several times. Love him so much that I might even get his Auntie to buff him. his 40 energy cost is just *chef's kiss* i gave the Redhorn to him and only him. Always nice to see fellow Chongyun mains out here!
A friend of mine built him with full Guilded and he can do some big burst DMG on melts. His energy is also not a huge problem, especially if you run an ER weapon. I do Spiral Abyss for her, and Chongyun carried during that one cycle where Baizhu/Kirara's boss was in 12-3. Still a very fun character to play, even if he's not "meta."
my biggest bummer is c6 Bennett I never thought I would never be able to reuse Chong nor I would want to. I really want to deactivate c6 Bennett now, I wanna make the original national team for fun

Put an R5 Wolf’s Gravestone and my Ganyu Artifacts and now he hits harder than most of my 5 stars. Burst hits for 300k+ and its constantly available on refresh. Hypercarry Chongyun hits like a freight train.
My main!! Chongyun will never be the “best” in Genshin but despite that I’ve always found myself coming back to him. He’s just fun to play. My only wish is that we’ll get a cryo set that is better utilized on him because his build (4pc Gladiators for main DPS Chongyun) basically hasn’t changed since 2020
@@ZabKoughingbecause he's bad. That's all. He got low damage, low support and etc. All he does is giving cryo infusion (which rn is not needed at all). Tho, there may be a character that will be insane with cryo infusion, and chongyun will be really useful. Right now, this character is useless, other cryo damagers like Ayaka, That Fontaine guy (I won't spell his name), Ganyu are better a lot. Also supports like Layla, Diona and etc got so much potential. With such competition, this character is useless.
@@ZabKoughing no. According to the law of China, this game can't nerf characters stats. But they can buff them. And unfortunately only 1 character got buffed, Zhongli, because he was too weak, rn he's insanely good. I don't think they are going to buff anyone
@@ZabKoughing mainly because he is a claymore user. Claymores perform poorly in timed-events such as Abyss because of slow attack speed and hit-lag. Not sure how Hoyo could buff big sword users, maybe increase the AoE of their normal and charged attacks more?
One team I really want to try is Chongyun and Bennett, with the idea that Benny can rapidly fire off his E while using his cryo infused sword to apply cryo for the melt. If it was ever built properly with some good supports, it might actually be kinda ok 😅 Note that his ascension passives reduce his E cooldown while inside his burst, and Chongyun also decreases the E cooldown of the character in his circle by 15% (don't quote me). Maybe a different character also has a similar passive which could reduce it further
built a national melt team with kazuha and it has developed really good, just needing to dust off xiangling with skyward spine and rebuild her artifacts
Main reason I don't use him in Abyss anymore is the long ass windup animation on his skill. A lot of people recommended subbing him in as a ringer vs. lector gangbangs to cheese their shields with team infused cryo normals. So I tried that, but it was way too frustrating constantly getting knocked out of his skill midair right before he could actually plant the circle. I don't know if anyone has ever compared frame data like in fighting games, but gut feel based on personal play is that his cryo competitors complete their skill casts faster, reducing this issue.
All my freeze/ cryo carrying teams I use Layla with the key r4 and I never turned back she’s just sooo good and I can save zhong li for a different team the newest 4star HP sword is solid too tho I haven’t tested much it’s still worth a thought if you are a Layla lover
I like the guy a lot, but I didn't get any copies until very late (had Ayaka already), and he doesn't fit as a support like Rosaria or Kaeya so I can't justify building him right now. And I just got a monster c1 Wrio lol
I admit, I've slept on Chongyun. I have three go to cryo characters that I use that I got after him. But he plays great in his test runs, I think I'll put some effort into him once I finish working on Furina.
I don't know, I feel like Chongyun esp at C6 has always been a decent sub dps esp on the melt team, my favorite team with him is Benny, XL, Rosaria, and Chungus Easily destroy anything that is not resistant to fire or ice but I do find them to be very squishy since there is only Benny as healer and all of these chara are paper. XQ is a good alternative for Rosaria but that means you build Chongyun as support and not melt DPS. His burst easily hit for 40-60k/sword and since I'm using Sac sword his skill deal about 30-60k 4 times which mean on average I can hit 200-300k on each rotation which is not much compared to the 5-star meta but it isn't low either since Xiangling and Rosaria also deal massive dmg on top of that edit: I think his only downfall is being an ice chara where Ayaka, Shenhe, and Ganyu exist
When it comes to Chongyun there are a bunch of things to consider in all directions. The biggest misconception is that he is meant as a burst support. His skill is dedicated to Normals. His Normal multipliers are pretty decent even. Obviously Normal attack Chongyun is impossible with a C6 Benny because Burst > Skill infusion. That brings us to Shatter, the reaction from hitting a frozen object with a Claymore. 4 Piece Blizzard does not work on a main DPS Chongyun because you are Shattering your frozen enemies so are not getting the frozen enemy crit rate over half the time. In a melt comp, Thoma tends to be a good Xiangling replacement because it gives more consistent reactions on Normal attacks. C6 Thoma also brings a Normal attack bonus to the table. Xiangling applies too much Pyro for there to be consistent Cryo to balance it. In any comp, just remember to do Shenhe's skill on Bennett's burst. Double Pyro and Benny specifically is all to buff Shenhe's attack for her skill, to then be transferred. Shenhe's buff is based on her overall attack, not just base attack. For the fullest buff, buff your supports the highest first.

Kaeya has a MASSIVE charge attack multiplier. Him + Chongun is a really fun freeze team.

I remember the time when Chongyun was my only cryo dps. I used him for a good while. Thereafter I pulled ayaka, and I made chongyun her support with sacrificial and noblesse oblige. After that I pulled shenhe and now I can switch between both of them to have fun with whoever I want at a time. And now I pulled wrio..... I'm a sucker for cryo LOL. I can make 2 cryo teams by now.

Chongyun was my first ever 4* from the banner, i got him even before Lisa. Definetly one of the most fun characters at release
Since the dawn of time in Gesnhin, Chongyun has been my cryo DPS, not by meta reasons obviously, but for how fun he is for me with the CD reduction and cryo infusion.
I think claymore characters in general are so fun. Chongyun/Diluc/Sayu/beidou.... Really a lot of fun characters people miss out on for ''best dps''. Chongyun can clearly 36 star abyss. There is not even a contest between characters for the endgame lol. As long as they can clear.
@@artaleasham4105 I recently started playing and have been having so much fun with permafrezze team of rosaria, xingqiu, sucrose and chongyun/kaeya. This has been a lot more fun than when I tried building the national team (with diona instead of Bennet as i don't have him) which everyone says is one of the strongest 4 star comps.
Chongyun literally is a special case, like in-paper he just have that originality going on for him which looks strong; free Cryo infusion, ATK speed bonus, Cryo-res shred, low energy burst nuke with no ICD in every hit, and the rarest decrease skill CD inside his skill via constellation, he sounds that all what he offers for a support are great but is "too unique" for the standards of today's META or in short everything that he gives from his skill is irrelevant because the units who can Buff numbers or Damage alone are much more valuable unfortunately and his burst is a scream nuke which is unfortunate for Cryo's reactions for which most of the units are persistent for driving reactions with exceptions of Aloy and Wriothesley bursts, as Chongyun's burst can only take advantage on Melt reaction.
But honestly, after everything what going on with him, his such a fun character to mess around.

As a Chongyun main, I can say I've tried a lot of his teams and I can assure anyone reading this that Burning Melt, Melt and National are indeed his best 3 teams, but he is still usable in all the other teams you've mentioned
Honestly, I've watched (almost) every Chongyun guide to see if they're good, and this one is the best one by a landslide. Really appreciate the research and effort put into this!
I personally love Chongyun. His character design is one of the best, his idle animations are cute and fun, his voice is sweet (being voiced by one of my favorite jp vas), his personality overall is way too adorable, his relationship with Xingqiu is wholesome, his interaction with his aunt is also wholesome, etc. I have more reasons to play him than the "he is not meta" logic. Just build him well. Any character can be good as long as you invest into them and give them their best teams.
Chongyun's burst is one of my favorite burst in the game because of how low-cost it is, quick animation, and burst dmg. With my own Chongyun build, his burst is actually stronger than my Zhongli's burst but minus the crowd control and long animation.
Chongyun was the first lvl 90 I had. Triple crowned him and gave him the best artifacts. I still use Chongyun as my main DPS and was trying to update him recently. Thank you!

100% agree!! Once I discovered Chong, I INSTANTLY loved his ultra smooth animations and quick elemental/burst moves. IMO he feels like one of the most smoothly designed characters in the game, so its a shame that he doesn't get more life. So many of the other original 4 stars are still broken today (or in Fischl's case, even more broken than ever) but Chong is just out there alone fighting evil spirits with his pure yang

I use a lot of old-school national with Chongyun as my on fielder. I care little about meta or spiral abyss so I typically just stick with characters I like and Chongyun is probably one of the coolest characters IMO, his animations are sleek and stylish whether form an idle or burst animation, even his skill though simple just look so cool when you string it together into a combo.
So chonyun. Fun little combat trick you can do with him an the battle pass crit bow: have him use his alt frerzing eneiemes mid air an then pop the bow, an then pop his alt again.
By doing this his alt causes the eneimes to pop back up in the air creating double fall damage for the enemies.
Its something very few characters in the game can reliably do effectively an efficiently.
An chonyun is the perfect character for this. His alt is low cost an comes back fast, an more importantly it literally targets a enemy of your choice cause you can target with it an pops them back up onto the air while also freezing them while taking fall damaage as well.
Quicly unfreeze an they get fall damage again.
Not the easiet weapon skill combo to pull off granted, it takes practice.
But once you see the potential an figure out the best rotations an combos an teams for it, theres no going back.
I read thtough alot of the comments an im not completely sure, but i didnt see anyone eles mention the benefits of chonyun an this weapon skill combo rotation that hes basically the best at doing, for freeze anyway.
So i figured I'd mention it.

My un-built chongyun just helped me 36star abyss for the very first time on my 3rd account today.
I cleared abyss before on 2 other accounts which i gave away more than a year ago. This is the first time i cleared, let alone 36starred abyss on this account.
On the topic of Freeze teams, you gotta keep in mind that as a Claymore user he Shatters, so you need to he careful with that.

I used to play shatter chongyun back in the day with xingqiu because I wanted them to stay together. I still slap him into my Kaeya freeze team sometimes. It’s sad older characters are often getting ignored nowadays :(

Chongyun was my main back in the days just because I love him and loved the idea of playing a „non-DPS“! Plus him being a 4* made me more determined of making it work. I got a couple of other DPSs now but Chongyun is and will forever be my main Cryo dps (as Kaeya is my physical main)
I have Rosaria and Kaeya, but never built them because i don't really find them "cool" enough. Now I have finally grabbed Chongyun from the lantern Rite and built him as my Cryo DPS. He is so fun to play!
it's not an OR, it's an AND. if you haven't got meta characters, chongyun and rosaria/kaeya form a great freeze team (still using it on floor 12 when the content asks for it)

I met a lv 90 Chongyun in coop the other day for the first time ever. He was super fun to play with. Shenhe agrees.
Ah, Chongyun, after getting Shenhe I got him on standered. Mono cryo was really fun in Inazuma, agains electro charatcers it was pretty amazing. And his family synergy is the rare wholesome team-building options in the game.

the same level as Rosaria. At low investment she provides up to 15% crit rate to her team. At higher investment she does a respectable amount of damage. She also deals 2 instances of damage on both skill and burst making her a great fav procker, especially since you already want to build her with high crit rate. And with fav being all the er you really need she's cheap to build too. Adding to that, cryo really only has freeze in terms of meta viability. When it works, Chongyun doesn't. His claymore attacks shatter enemies and him giving an elemental infusion isn't really something that's useful unless you have a c6 shenhe.
Idk if building 100% crit rate is low investment lol, u need a 5* spear and good artifacts. She shares 15% of her crit rate, not 15% flat
Tbh I love using chongyun, his kit is so insanely fun and his animations have great movement
I think chongyun has a very fun kit. I enjoy using him even with all the 5 stars i have now. My favorite team is Yae, Kokomi and Kazuha the fourth slot if flexible and i like to use him there, allowing kazuha to apply cryo and giving him more on field value despite not beeing build as a dps. I can highly recommend using him and i'm grateful that you draw attention to him with thus video again.

Since chongyun here is mainly used as a burst dps, because of his high burst dmg & low energy cost, i can get his burst every rotation..
Since his burst can melt every swords.. and Bennett burst has high elemental gauge..
I always use Bennett burst to chongyun burst to fully melt his burst..
I love Chongus, he's super underrated

chongyun, the only version 1.0 4* that was balanced as a 4*. his normal attacks being so low scaling truly showed how he was supposed to be a skill/burst oriented support.

Xiangling, Xinqiu, and Chongyun are the first National team . Bennett is also included in the team. Xiangling is the on-field , because she is a polearm type character and when she is on the field with Chongyun's e-skill, she can apply Cryo element faster through her normal attacks. This will help with the Melt of Xiangling's burst and the Freeze of Xingqiu's burst. Bennett serves as a buffer and healer in the team.

Sucrose can both double swirl and ttds for xiangling while em buff help xingqui frontload his skill damage enough to make him irrelevant lmao
@@blastzd Dude there's the reason why everyone says Sucrose is a good unit while ppl very rarely use her. She is good on paper, while in practice she is a pain to use. Chongyun is much more forgiving and easy to use.
And Chongyun national is not the worst national team, when Heizou exists

Honestly, I think he has THE BEST character design in the entire game. It’s so clean and the abilities are very cool
I love using Chongyun. His teams are rather flexible. My favorite team is Him, Shenhe, Lynette, and Dehya. If you time your rotations correctly you can melt all of Chongyun's burst right when Dehya's skill hits at the same time. It's so much fun. Plus if you use Lynette's burst as cryo you can immediately swap to Dehya after Chongyun's burst to use her burst to get melts from her as well. Proper rotations also allow you to just rely on Dehya and Lynette to heal themselves so you can repeatedly burst with Chongyun and Shenhe
5:46 Amber is a substitute for Nahida. Going Amber burst -> Chongyun burst should rev melt all of Chongyun's burst hits. Obviously she's not as strong as Nahida since no EM buff unless you're whaled out with stuff like Elegy Bow or c6 Amber.
Also, Nahida is 1.5U Dendro, not 2U, but the point still stands that she offers more Dendro.

Yup, all other off-field dendro only applies 1U. The exception is Kirara's burst with 2U (and 1U mini bombs), although i don't think it's more reliable than a refreshed Nahida's skill (2x 1.5U) on the first triggered Melt.
honestly i used to use chongyun a TON when i first started, and even now I use him sometimes like if i want to play an on-field shenhe team

Chongyun is actually pretty good with Sacrificial Greatsword- it lets you control his second passive to some extent. When his E expires, he drops another blade that deals 200%+ damage, and only one of his frost fields can exist at a time. So, if you use his E twice in a row, you get the field and deal the damage.
Bennett is my main DPS and I always pair him with Chongyun because their synergy is so good: Chongyun's C2 for cd-reduction with his skill. Add that with (not C6) Benny's very shortened cd with his skill (+cryo infusion from Chongyun's skill), and Benny becomes a quick melt machine gun. Then for even additional boost, Kazuha and/or another cryo character for the resonance.

been my main for years, he hits like a truck and makes hydro shields obsolete. i use him as an on-fielder and normal attack with him, and am able to melt his normals. i could talk about this boy all day. one of two triple-crowned characters i currently have (kazuha being the other one, will triple crown wrio as well), and he has such a special place in my heart.
hes not any more worth it than other cryo characters like kaeya and rosaria, but if youre looking for a change of pace or are looking for a cryo dps hes an excellent choice

Chongyun was a mainstay in my earliest teams, and was the first two four-star characters I got off of Standard Banner.
He yet _remained_ at C1 until these banners. I got him around 2.8! Something like one-and-a-quarter years, and he's finally hit C2, my white whale. Time to build and reintroduce... Well, if I could tear myself away from the comfort of Hyperbloom+Shield.
I am 1 constellation away from c6, will definitely build up using this info whenever I get c6, great video thanks.
Another thing is that Chongyun is pretty much the only character who can make full use of sunfire Jean.
The pyro application is so good it basically guarantee melt on every hit of his burst, with VV buff.
He was my main DPS for a long time through the early game. Ran him with Rainslasher until I finally got a Sac, lol. Second character I levelled to 90 after MC, and I still love playing him...especially now with the current banner I now have him C6 :)
What I have accepted with genshin is that if you build any character Correctly and have good CV that character can be good no matter role they have
because player can mix match artifact, healer can be DPS and DPS can be support
The only beauty i keep reminding myself because artifact farming is hell

I used chongyun through first and second patches, only just now learning that his skill converts attacks into cryo. i clearly never read the skills properly.
TO everyone who says "Just use Ayaka" or "Just use Rosaria" have you ever considered people dont use those characters bc 1) they dont have them or 2) they dont want them? There is absolutely no point in comparing characters. Zero. Zilch. Unless you are a collector who wants every character in the game or a person who specifically pulls the strongest character of every element, comparisons add nothing to the game. Guides like these are extremely useful and helpful! Personally I am a cryo main and have been running around Teyvat with Kaeya, Chongyun, Mika, etc. (Frem and Wrio now too) and YES I havent seen any Chongyun guides on this platform. So THANK YOU for actually building and testing every character. These are helpful for those who play our forgotten heroes >>>>>> Meta :)

I specifically haven't activated the C6 for my Bennett because I main Chongyun and I know Bennett's burst would override Chongyun's skill which would absolutely screw me personally.
I've found Chongyun to be my go-to Cryo character since I started, he's the only character who I've used any crowns on (yes I am hoarding crowns for no reason). So glad to finally see a video putting some respect on my main's name.
I have him, Xingqiu, Bennett and Kazuha all built to 90 and they're a go-to abyss team if I don't feel like using my brain. Works pretty well for me lol.
I've also been experimenting with a team utilizing him, Freminet, Fischl and Xingqiu for some Shatter reaction fun in overworld. I did 3☆ floor 9 with that team actually lmao.
If you wanna build him for a "Burst Build" definitely give him r5 Luxurious Sealord if you have it.
He works quite well in quick-swap and as a sub-dps or support. (C6 isn't necessary but is a definite perk if you're doing Burst Build)
Honestly if I get Nahida on her next banner I'll have to try a variation of the Burn/Melt team, it looks lowkey super fun.
Maxing chongyun only for the popsicle is also worth
i just came back to the game after a very long time away and as a casual f2p player i don't have a lot of characters or a lot of constellations. but for some reason, my chongyun is way ahead of everyone else: he's c4, no one else is even c2. so i've been running him as a sub-dps for an Ayaka i got a lucky pull on last time i played and he's been doing well for himself. even with just a casual player's investment, his burst is almost always ready on cooldown and he hits like a truck. and once i get my brand new bennet and xingqui leveled up, they'll open up a lot of options for him
Ive been using Shenhe as my On field Unit with Chongyun, Mona, and Yun Jin For a few weeks and Its become My favorite team.
Chongyun will always be C6 Shenhe’s best supporter.
I miss playing him. He was on my team from Mondstat to Inazuma.
I stopped using Chongyun way back in 1.4 when Rosaria was released. He is built though. I used him the other day in old school national for kicks. Dude is still strong.
I should definitely try Shenhe in my Chongyun team. At the moment I've leaned more on burn with both Nahida and Yao-Yao in his team.

I think Chongyun suffers 2 curses: replaceability and being a claymore user. There are so many options for cryo damage between Ayaka, Ganyu, Shenhe, Kaeya, and Rosaria. Recently Wriothesley got added to that list as well. That's not to mention that you can be meta without the cryo element (I love my Ayaka too much to do that though). Add to that lower damage output (although the frontloading may compensate for that in some cases) and a weapon that feels slow and I can see why Chongyun is slept on.
I'm personally going for Ayaka and Rosaria for my cryo damage (I may pull for Shenhe when she reruns), but I think this video may convince others to give our pure-yang buddy a shot
I got him about 2 months into my genshin experience and he almost immediately replaced diluc as my dps, still a proud chongyun main to this day
I got my Chongyun built with wolf gravestone, 4 pc blizzard, 30/170 crit, almost 3k attack, and I use Diona, Xingnqiu, and Kazuha for his team. (I'm slowly working on Shenhe for him). He clears that new artifact domain quickly with minimum dmg. He's c4 now too :D I love my bby yunyun.

Bennent is replaceable with Thoma for more consistant pyro application in burn-melt teams, C1 Shenhe lets you hold e and auto with Chonyun after burst rotation
Also with burnmelt you can also use Lavawalker on him

Chongyun main here since the Noelle banner. he's my only cryo dps and has cleared the Abyss for me several times. Love him so much that I might even get his Auntie to buff him. his 40 energy cost is just *chef's kiss* i gave the Redhorn to him and only him. Always nice to see fellow Chongyun mains out here!
Still using him to this day, going to crown him once i get his C6.
A friend of mine built him with full Guilded and he can do some big burst DMG on melts. His energy is also not a huge problem, especially if you run an ER weapon. I do Spiral Abyss for her, and Chongyun carried during that one cycle where Baizhu/Kirara's boss was in 12-3. Still a very fun character to play, even if he's not "meta."

Put an R5 Wolf’s Gravestone and my Ganyu Artifacts and now he hits harder than most of my 5 stars. Burst hits for 300k+ and its constantly available on refresh. Hypercarry Chongyun hits like a freight train.
My main!! Chongyun will never be the “best” in Genshin but despite that I’ve always found myself coming back to him. He’s just fun to play. My only wish is that we’ll get a cryo set that is better utilized on him because his build (4pc Gladiators for main DPS Chongyun) basically hasn’t changed since 2020

He got low damage, low support and etc. All he does is giving cryo infusion (which rn is not needed at all). Tho, there may be a character that will be insane with cryo infusion, and chongyun will be really useful. Right now, this character is useless, other cryo damagers like Ayaka, That Fontaine guy (I won't spell his name), Ganyu are better a lot. Also supports like Layla, Diona and etc got so much potential. With such competition, this character is useless.

@@ZabKoughing no. According to the law of China, this game can't nerf characters stats. But they can buff them. And unfortunately only 1 character got buffed, Zhongli, because he was too weak, rn he's insanely good. I don't think they are going to buff anyone
@@ZabKoughing mainly because he is a claymore user. Claymores perform poorly in timed-events such as Abyss because of slow attack speed and hit-lag. Not sure how Hoyo could buff big sword users, maybe increase the AoE of their normal and charged attacks more?
I finally got his C6. He will be built, sooner or later 🛐
One team I really want to try is Chongyun and Bennett, with the idea that Benny can rapidly fire off his E while using his cryo infused sword to apply cryo for the melt. If it was ever built properly with some good supports, it might actually be kinda ok 😅
Note that his ascension passives reduce his E cooldown while inside his burst, and Chongyun also decreases the E cooldown of the character in his circle by 15% (don't quote me). Maybe a different character also has a similar passive which could reduce it further
built a national melt team with kazuha and it has developed really good, just needing to dust off xiangling with skyward spine and rebuild her artifacts
Main reason I don't use him in Abyss anymore is the long ass windup animation on his skill.
A lot of people recommended subbing him in as a ringer vs. lector gangbangs to cheese their shields with team infused cryo normals.
So I tried that, but it was way too frustrating constantly getting knocked out of his skill midair right before he could actually plant the circle.
I don't know if anyone has ever compared frame data like in fighting games, but gut feel based on personal play is that his cryo competitors complete their skill casts faster, reducing this issue.
I got him as my first 4 star character,during 1.0 patch, I use him with xingqiu all the time.
All my freeze/ cryo carrying teams I use Layla with the key r4 and I never turned back she’s just sooo good and I can save zhong li for a different team the newest 4star HP sword is solid too tho I haven’t tested much it’s still worth a thought if you are a Layla lover

I like the guy a lot, but I didn't get any copies until very late (had Ayaka already), and he doesn't fit as a support like Rosaria or Kaeya so I can't justify building him right now. And I just got a monster c1 Wrio lol
I love Chongyun so much. He was the first character I ever pulled. But as a Razor main I am critically allergic to him so that makes me very sad.
I admit, I've slept on Chongyun. I have three go to cryo characters that I use that I got after him. But he plays great in his test runs, I think I'll put some effort into him once I finish working on Furina.
I don't know, I feel like Chongyun esp at C6 has always been a decent sub dps esp on the melt team, my favorite team with him is Benny, XL, Rosaria, and Chungus
Easily destroy anything that is not resistant to fire or ice but I do find them to be very squishy since there is only Benny as healer and all of these chara are paper. XQ is a good alternative for Rosaria but that means you build Chongyun as support and not melt DPS. His burst easily hit for 40-60k/sword and since I'm using Sac sword his skill deal about 30-60k 4 times which mean on average I can hit 200-300k on each rotation which is not much compared to the 5-star meta but it isn't low either since Xiangling and Rosaria also deal massive dmg on top of that
edit: I think his only downfall is being an ice chara where Ayaka, Shenhe, and Ganyu exist
When it comes to Chongyun there are a bunch of things to consider in all directions.
The biggest misconception is that he is meant as a burst support. His skill is dedicated to Normals. His Normal multipliers are pretty decent even.
Obviously Normal attack Chongyun is impossible with a C6 Benny because Burst > Skill infusion.
That brings us to Shatter, the reaction from hitting a frozen object with a Claymore.
4 Piece Blizzard does not work on a main DPS Chongyun because you are Shattering your frozen enemies so are not getting
the frozen enemy crit rate over half the time.
In a melt comp, Thoma tends to be a good Xiangling replacement because it gives more consistent reactions on Normal attacks.
C6 Thoma also brings a Normal attack bonus to the table. Xiangling applies too much Pyro for there to be consistent Cryo to balance it.
In any comp, just remember to do Shenhe's skill on Bennett's burst. Double Pyro and Benny specifically is all to buff Shenhe's attack for her skill, to then be transferred.
Shenhe's buff is based on her overall attack, not just base attack. For the fullest buff, buff your supports the highest first.
