Thank you so much coach Lloyd, very helpful video, I have the off ice in-lines but I’m struggling to use them because I feel I’m trying to skate forwards on the 1st wheel and since the wheels are rockered I feel like I’m going to land face on the floor! Do you put your weight on the second and third wheel to skate forwards? I’m also scared of the last wheel that one doesn’t even touch the ground 🤣 sorry for lengthy question, loving your videos as always 🙏🏼💙⛸
Skating forwards on the 1st wheel is not a good idea! Think of how a speed boat moves through the water, the front is up and it's weighted towards the back. That's what your blade/wheels should be doing. How many wheels are on your skates? Weight Skating forwards should be on the middle - back of the blade/ wheels. If you are not confident that you won't slip backwards and fall, stick to the middle of the blade. I would struggle skating forwards on the first wheel, I actually discussed it on Patreon, I posted a video where I tried to do forward crossovers with the weight on the ball of the foot - they were awful 🤣
Ice Coach Online that makes perfect sense, the example with the boat really helped! I don’t know why I seem to keep putting the weight towards the front but I will keep practising my skates have 4 wheels, gotta get some protective pads 😅
I'm 63 and getting back into inline skating. I did it easily 30 years ago but am having an awful time trying to relearn in my kitchen which is huge. these are the absolute best tips I have seen yet. thank you!

The V position you were talking about with your feet an easy way to put it is third position it’s a ballet term but it’s a little bit easier to understand sometimes. It means that your foot is crossed halfway in front of you and not at ankle to ankle
Yes you are correct, but the only reason I don't tell complete beginners to stand in 3rd position (T position in skating) is I have seen people trip themselves up when they start to move. I like the skater to get a bit of balance in heel to heel open position before we move on to the 3rd position 🙂
That 3 seconds you saw me skating for, was actually a few minutes of footage, but I needed to cut it short for the pacing of the video to be quick. What I do on the ice is what I can do on inlines though. In future videos I will have more of myself skating.
@icecoachonline I started ice skating 2 months ago and I progressed very quickly watching your videos - recently I pinned down backward crossover and one foot 3 turn (yay!). I plan to buy inline skates to practice whenever I can't skate on ice. I wonder - which one you recommend most for figure skaters? I don't plan to do any jumps on concrete but it would be nice to skate on something that mimics rockered blade? Or am I wrong and I should go for simple urban skates?
I completely lost it with the third tip. The number of times I've seen people do this in rinks always had me wondering why... like why is that happening? Now I know. This is hilarious
I wanna get into figure skating, but because of the pandemic I’m trying to teach myself the basics at home and work on flexibility+balance. Should I buy inline skates so I can learn how to move on the ice?
Buying inline skates will certainly help. I have great success teaching people just starting out on inline inline skates. I find that when the get into the ice rink, they can everything on ice straight away. Also taking some off ice training classes can help too! There is more information on my website! Feel free to email me if you have any questions 🙂

@@pat_6430 it depends on the skates u get, the skates I got when I initially wrote this comment and still use are more like hockey skates then figure skates and the have rubber wheels so I can’t really do any turns. A great roller skate I can think of and that I want to buy that’s just like a figure skate is a PIC skate. U can turn smoothly on those and even do jumps. Though they are very expensive so u don’t need to get them now, especially if ur just starting. Are you comfortable with the plastic buckles on those boots? As an ice skater and artistic roller skater, I never wore plastic boots and/or buckles. I've seen recreational inlines with laces which I think are intended for hockey.
Yeah they were fine, probably the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. But I suspect on the ice I would break those buckles off quite quickly when I started to skate flat out! The boots are carbon fibre though, so are very strong. The ones with the laces might have been for roller hockey.
I really want to try inline skates because I can't skate at my rink right now, but I'm worried that it will change what I do on the ice, especially since I'm not very advanced (I'm still just doing single jumps.)
bubble wraps?? You are so innovative!! 🤣 BTW, I have a few questions. 1. How does skating on inline feels like? Does it have the same feeling as ice skate? 2. What about the weight, is it as heavy as off-ice skate or closer to ice skate? 3. Can we do tricks on ice using inline too? like some turns and spin (let's not ask for jumps cuz that's scary)
1)skating on inlines feel great, the sole is a little flatter, so I had to really get over it to get my weight more forwards when skating backwards (maybe 20 minutes to get used to it). They were very similar to hockey skates. 2) it's a lot lighter than off ice skates, these were maybe 40% lighter. 3) the only thing I couldn't do (and don't want to anyway) are jumps and spins. So either people might manage to but the feeling for those two elements are so different I didn't even bother. Spinning on off ice skates are very different too, I question whether it's worth doing if you are trying to helps learn spins on ice. For anyone wanting to do triple toe loop, you will need some off ice skates. For anyone wanting to do just crossover, 3 turn, rocker, choctaw, spread Eagle... Etc... Inline skates (rocketed) like this are fine.

Quad has 4 wheels and makes it harder to make turns. Inline has the same position of wheels same as the position of blade on ice skate so its closer to ice skate.
I have a friend who is a world champion in quad skates (Dario Betti) and he also competed at senior international level in singles skating on ice. He told me that Snow whites were the closet thing to skating on ice. I have not tested it for myself, but I'm hoping that one day I can!

I have a question to those who used ice skates or other skates, was it easy to stand on the skates when you first started? I am just asking this for fun so you don't have to answer it if you don't want to
Nice skates. Have you bothered much with stopping/slides? Unless you street skate they are not overly important, but fancy slides look cool and can be fun if you're able to master them. Can you do figures on them yet - for example holding an edge for a full circle? Change of edge is challenging too - to do the rise and fall but still stay over the skate. I find those things easy on figure skates, much harder on inlines. Obviously you're a much better skater than I am but curious to see how comfortable you are doing it.
