- Update: I can’t believe I actually have to write this, but I guess some out of touch boomer types found my videos and are incapable of understanding hyperbole and taking the piss so let me be clear to the next person who is confused: I’m not actually afraid of anything in the unintentionally terrifying series. What you are seeing is something called:

I'm not sure what happened with the audio of my face cam, I tried to clean it the best I could. I considered redoing it but I liked some of the takes too much and didn't think I could reenact them. I apologize, I should be better at this editing thing but...
Also, I love that I somehow managed to match lip flaps from the flute with my voice multiple times on accident.

My mother and father grew up with this, and both had the same reaction of "Who came up with this?" Because even as kids, they thought this was weird and disturbing. Also, look up the Mr. Show parody of this series. It had my parents in tears of laughter.

This just unlocked a deeeeeep memory of my Nana singing the words "HR Pufnstuf" to herself and to this very moment I had no idea what she was singing about. And now I thank my childhood stars that I never questioned it.

This is one of those things that definitely needed to be covered on your 'Unintentionally Terrifying" series, so I'm happy to see the Krofft brothers show up finally! Honestly you could've done lots of their stuff... they're like Gerry Anderson (all those British puppet shows like Fireball XL5, SuperCar, Thunderbirds, Terrahawks, Captain Scarlet, etc.). They just couldn't help that most of their output is creepy due to various factors, but they sure were prolific and actually innovated quite a bit. It's just that innovating in the '70s was.... really ugly and weird.
Can't wait to see more entries in this series! You always find some amazing things to talk about!

Children's entertainment back then was definitely a weird and sorta unnerving time, but eh I'd take that over whatever the hell all the kids are watching today. (I.E RUclips Kids)

I could be very wrong, but at some point in the mid-2000s and early 2010s, Universal (who, along with Warner Bros, own almost everything Sid and Marty have made) and Sony Pictures legit tried to make a remake of this movie. First 2000 and in 2008, they announced they were officially working on it, but as of now, there's nothing. No leaked script or concept art. No confirmation if it was going to be practical, fully animated, or a mixture of the two. No actors or writers were announced. Nothing.
Maybe it's for the best, maybe not. Imagine if it was made and did come out when Gen Z kids like myself could've experienced this psychedelic salamander fever dream, just like our Gen X parents and relatives did.
Plus, if they went fully animated, it would've given the characters a wider range of movement and, importantly, facial expressions.
Would it be a bomb? Probably. But it would've gained a cult following and a few memes.
I believe I read the same thing while researching for the video. I mean, if you get the right script writer and director, you can make anything good. But I doubt they’d put effort in it and I would be just another nostalgic cash grab. Amazon released a new series of the sea monsters, it looked like it could be cute but it never survived after the first season..
@genyfear perhaps they could've made up some logical reasons for why the island and the characters are the way they are. The living objects and anthro trees and animals were once human but cursed to be this way by the once benevolent witch council, who are now greedy irredeemable corporate bigwigs. HR could be like a dragon-like salamander totem whose species was hunted by the witches to be used in their potions and spells. Maybe HR's cave is underwater in a coastal marsh, and Witchy is severely allergic to saltwater. Or maybe the salamander slime he coats the cave mouth with is magic proof. Have like a redemption arc for Witchy for she and her goons compared to the other witches are not evil in the slightest and simply groomed into this ideology. Maybe Freddie the Flute could be centuries old and possess great, almost God-like powers the lead witch desperately wants.
Perhaps the main lesson is that family doesn't mean you have to be related or even look alike to be considered a family. Like James and the Giant Peach.
@@isaacthemonke233 you just put together a more thought out story than the original creators ever did haha. I was thinking earlier Disney remade Pete’s dragon and it was a great reimagining and the dragon wasn’t annoying like the cartoon dragon was.
