They siphoned with a hose but I've never heard of anyone dumb enough to suck gas through a straw or hose into their mouth and then spit it out to fill a container. Back in the day people had enough street smarts and common sense not to do something that stupid.

For me it's not gasoline that I love the smell of, it's the smell of burnt rubber.
I used to love the smell of gasoline, until one day while working as a gas jockey, I instinctively took a whiff of a Jerry can (to make certain it wasn't used for diesel, or full of water)
just after pulling it out of a hot trailer, and just got absolutely obliterated by the fumes of pure racing fuel.
I was high as tits at work for an hour!
Petrol is highly carcinogenic and will kill you if you ingest enough of it so a really dumb idea to suck it into your mouth

If he was really smart he wouldn't be filtering at that speed. I don't blame the cars in most of these California highway filtering vids. A lot probably did check before they pull out but the bike is going so fast that its not there when they check but is by the time they pull out.
He had good accident avoidance in this clip but many don't and will be hit by the car and then try to blame the car when the car has no chance of being able to see them.
@@kurtisnelson78 seems like he was able to predict that someone was gonna switch into that lane. He noticed that there was an open gap and you could hear him roll off the throttle way before the car came out.
@@drewmoskal9878 yeah he did well in this one and I guess I'm not picking on him. It's more all the other clips you see where they get hit and then blame the car and get super mad. No defensive riding skills in most cases

The beauty of the old bikes in the seventies and eighties is that they has a tap under the tank, straight down for closed, forward for fuel, back for reserve. One of us always ran out of petrol at some point, simply take the hose off the tap, put it to forward and fill a bottle.
"I'm out of gas". You sir, are also out of protective equipment.
He did have a motorcycle jacket on. Please excuse his Bermuda Shorts and tennis shoes.

Unless someone is injured at the scene UK cops aren't needed. It's just a civil matter to be sorted through insurance. You could submit the footage to the police and hope for a careless driving charge.

There’s a small gas can the size of a water bottle I carry with me so if my tank runs out I have an extra 10 miles plus my reserve tank that should give me another 5 miles to get to a gas station. The can is aluminum so it can take a hit but I only recommend filling it half way since it could explode.

There is always a very small amount of water in gasoline, even from the gas stations.
This is simply unavoidable, but normally causes no harm, except when you pause your bike during a winter stop and the fuel tank of your bike is made of iron.
An iron fuel tank could rust inside.

6:41 that whole clip ended well. The guy was kind of mad at first. I think he thought he was in the right until you pointed out the 3 lanes & the one he was in kept going around. I think he started second guessing himself & calmed down after that. Hope he made good on paying for replacing the foot peg. Usually those situations end up with the at fault person backing out on the damage when you don't go through insurance.

I'll never forget the first time I tried siphoning gas using a hose as you probably guessed it did not end well and for the first and last time I knew what gas felt like passing into my stomach.
