Needless to say I had road rash (I'll take the fractures over road rash any day! Having the ER nurses scrub the debris from my wounds was vomit inducing) from hell and fractures all over the place. My helmet, lawdy be that helmet is now resting in peace; and to those who don't wear helmets.... please please please start. Seeing bikers without them gives me major anxieties.
Lots of things. Basically something causes an instability in the front wheel (anything from road debris to angle of forks, to bad bearings) and the wheel turns one way. The bike naturally wants to go straight but often the wheel overshoots to the other side, then it overshoots even more to the other side, etc until you are at full lock back and forth. At that point just pray the wheel doesn't grip while at full lock. Fork angle plays a big role which is why you see these videos almost exclusively on R6s and other track oriented motorcycles. The more vertical your forcks are the quicker the turn in but they are very unstable.
a cheaply made bike or a really stupid too young of a rider going past the speed limit. there are reasons for speed limits. obey them and you may live longer. been riding since 1968, i may know something.

Many years ago I was wearing a fiberglass Bell helmet when I hit an oil patch on an offramp, ended up with my head slammed against the curb. Helmet was badly cracked, I didn't even have a concussion. I STILL have that shell on my shelf. Saved my life.
Yeah you ease off, ideally letting the bike slow without using the front brake. The only reason I can think why you'd speed up is if you have no idea what's happening or you just want to make a youtube video.
The safest thing is what you said - gradually let off the throttle, firmly grip the handlebars and try to steer straight ahead (but don't fight the bars aggressively by pushing too far / hard in the opposite direction of the oscillations), and slow down without using the brakes. Accelerating might work some of the time, because it takes load off the front tire, but if it doesn't, then you crash at a higher speed. Never use the front brakes, as a speed wobble is almost always intensified by heavily loading the front tire. I've been riding on the street since 1982 and have come out of at least a dozen high speed tank slappers by gradually closing the throttle without using the brakes, as I was taught by my motorcycle license training handbook.

I was wondering what saddlebag company made it so I can avoid it (looking at getting a Viking saddlebag pair) and lo and behold, it's not only plastic that is maybe 8mm thick BUT! also Harley-Davidson , GOOD JOB GUYS! Give all use newer riders who need to be informed before spending money MORE information to make us avoid you, top notch quality, right?
It's actually better to slow down by easing off the throttle when in a tank slapper.. Reason being your rear wheel acts like a very subtle brake when no throttle is applied and that stabilizes the entire bike like the drag caused by arrow feathers at the rear of an arrow. Secondly, it's far better and safer to lose control at slow speeds than to get ejected or ram something at high speed. Last but not least, if it's a result of a wheel alignment issue, speed is only going to make that problem worse as one wheel wants to go in a direction other than straight, and more speed can make that problem worse.

I just keep getting ads in Spanish on these videos. I don't understand Spanish and I'm confused on why RUclips wanted most of my ads to be in Spanish... The ads are mostly in Spanish when I watch these videos and I rarely get them in Spanish on any other videos.
Stop talking shit dude... Everyone in Europe has those exhausts on the moped.. It's a tuning exhaust for 2stroke scooters... Look up yasuni or gianelli, Hebo, Technigas, voca, roost etc.... 70cc and a reverse exhaust will get you around 120km/h easy

Sometimes designers don’t seem to really think things through, flaws like that manifest themselves later on. My own instances I attribute to my own 19 and 22 year old stupidity. lol
Watching these Euro videos makes me glad I ride in the US. Everyone in Europe is riding little 125s and we are lucky enough in the states to have easy access to ridiculous 1000CC monsters. Not to say 125s suck or anything. Small displacement bikes are a ton of fun. They just wouldn't make sense on US highways I guess.

Front tyre getting unsettled and a feedback loop causes it to get worse. Rough roads, high speeds, bad suspension setup, bad tyre pressures, accelerating fast... The way to get out of a speed wobble is 1) move/lean forwards over your fuel tank, this shifts more weight on your front tyre which should alleviate it. 2) don't hold the handlebars too tight, it will make everything worse. Where do you live? If you aren't living in 3rd world country like I do, then your survival chance is bigger than me. Also, maybe start with a smaller bike (125cc or 150cc), ride around your neighborhood. Then if you feel confident, you can get 250 or bigger bike. Trust me, riding a motorcycle is fun. I personally enjoy cruising around the city in the middle of the night.

"Kung Fu - Death Grip" on handlebars is the leading cause of speed wobbles...assuming no mechanical issues with bike. Use your core to support yourself and keep a light grip. It's just Motorcycling 101.

Happened to me a few times...I have always slowed down without breaking....then dug a 6 foot hole to,put my under pants in

It's actually better to slow down by easing off the throttle when in a tank slapper..
Reason being your rear wheel acts like a very subtle brake when no throttle is applied and that stabilizes the entire bike like the drag caused by arrow feathers at the rear of an arrow. Secondly, it's far better and safer to lose control at slow speeds than to get ejected or ram something at high speed. Last but not least, if it's a result of a wheel alignment issue, speed is only going to make that problem worse as one wheel wants to go in a direction other than straight, and more speed can make that problem worse.

Stop talking shit dude... Everyone in Europe has those exhausts on the moped.. It's a tuning exhaust for 2stroke scooters... Look up yasuni or gianelli, Hebo, Technigas, voca, roost etc.... 70cc and a reverse exhaust will get you around 120km/h easy

Sometimes designers don’t seem to really think things through, flaws like that manifest themselves later on. My own instances I attribute to my own 19 and 22 year old stupidity. lol

Watching these Euro videos makes me glad I ride in the US. Everyone in Europe is riding little 125s and we are lucky enough in the states to have easy access to ridiculous 1000CC monsters. Not to say 125s suck or anything. Small displacement bikes are a ton of fun. They just wouldn't make sense on US highways I guess.

Why speed wobble happens and what to do to avoid it?
Front tyre getting unsettled and a feedback loop causes it to get worse. Rough roads, high speeds, bad suspension setup, bad tyre pressures, accelerating fast...
The way to get out of a speed wobble is
1) move/lean forwards over your fuel tank, this shifts more weight on your front tyre which should alleviate it.
2) don't hold the handlebars too tight, it will make everything worse. Try to relax
3) ease off on the throttle as usual higher speeds make it worse.Last thing you should do is to speed up since that's just a big gamble.

Where do you live? If you aren't living in 3rd world country like I do, then your survival chance is bigger than me. Also, maybe start with a smaller bike (125cc or 150cc), ride around your neighborhood. Then if you feel confident, you can get 250 or bigger bike. Trust me, riding a motorcycle is fun. I personally enjoy cruising around the city in the middle of the night.

"Kung Fu - Death Grip" on handlebars is the leading cause of speed wobbles...assuming no mechanical issues with bike. Use your core to support yourself and keep a light grip.
