Hello dean! I am currently a nursing student planning on shifting this AY due to financial and personal issues, there are schools offering free tuition fees and I really want to choose the best pre-law major that would aid me best in law school, and if I ever am not able to go to law school it may be my career as well.
The two programs I deeply am troubled about taking is Communications and History. For starters, I really am passionate about history or anthropology as this has been my childhood dream and I think it would be something worthwhile of learning, although I have been told that my career opportunities if I do not enter law school or engage in higher degrees, would be limited. Next is Communication or Speech Comm, I am really great at public speaking. I have won debates and other categories of public speaking in my high school that has aided me in gaining confidence and knowledge when speaking in front of a crowd. I love public speaking because I know this is one thing that I am good at especially that I know that I am able to hone my confidence in a way that I could project my talent more. I both love these programs and I think I could grow either way. Then again I have this fear that since I am shifting I don't know if I should go for which as I am afraid to make the same mistake as I did in my previous program.
I am greatly thankful to have seen your channel as it further inspired me to pursue law

Hi Valerie. You are at a crossroads now in selecting a college course. It is wise to think also of your future outside of law school. It is also encouraging that you want to be a lawyer. My best thoughts on the matter is to take the course where you will enjoy learning. Having a memorable and happy college experience will help you adjust to the rigors of law school. At this point, I would recommend to take Communication. If you don't go to law school, a communications degree will get you job in Human Resources, advertising and social media management. I wish you the best of luck!

Hello, Dean! I hope you notice this.
I am currently a Grade 12 ABM student who's stuck with choices AB Legal Management, AB English Language Studies, and AB Sociology for my pre-law course (I didn't include BSA because I really do not enjoy the subject).
I personally like AB Sociology the most but my personality calls for LegMa because it already covers many business law topics and I want to have a foretaste of law school. On the other hand, the reason why AB ELS occupies my least preferred choice is because I believe that one's English skills needed in law school can be honed in any pre-law. Both AB ELS & AB SCL are included on account of my 2nd dream, which is to be a professor.
Moreover, I already put AB Legal Management as my main program choice but I can still change it. If I choose this course, I am afraid I'd find it hard to land a job after college.
What are the pros and cons of LegMa? Is this a good pre-law?

    • @TheDeanLawChannel
      @TheDeanLawChannel  3 года назад +1

So the specific question is on legal management... The pros:
      1. You will definitely have prior knowledge (at least for freshman year) on the laws that is taken up in law school
      2. If the law subjects are taught by lawyers, they might teach the way they do in law school, so you will have a taste in that.
      3. Law schools won't question your degree and wonder why you went to law school.
      Cons:
      1. The job market is indeed thin if you don't go to law school.
      2. Law professors might have higher expectations on you to perform better in class.
      Hope this helps.

      Ok, here we go:
      Engineering:
Pro - you can practice patent law. Very lucrative payouts. US law firms pay about $180K annually as a starting salary!
Cons - Too rigid in formula and concepts. Law is about interpreting words and not too much on data unless you are in patent law 😎
      Accounting:
Pro - You can practice tax law. Very few lawyers go into tax law which means you have little competition to look for jobs or clients
Cons - Tax, no one likes tax.

That's a good question. The pros is that you will be able to argue using skills you learned in college. Hi Dean! I’m currently a grade 12 STEM student and planning to pursue law in the future. I am really not satisfied in the STEM field since I really don’t enjoy it, but chose it anyways since one of my options was to be in the medical field. But since high school, the discipline that I am proficient with was Social Sciences and Philosophy. So I am planning to take up a Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Social Studies degree and hopefully, if given the chance to get a Minor in English (practically to satisfy the required English Units).
