Rare to see such a good actor give so much of their own conviction to a speech, they end up slightly traumatised delivering it. Simon Rouse is one of our very best actors. Terrific performances over the years on The Bill. Rouse has many other TV credits, I recently saw him in an early role in Play for Today and as always he gives his best. One of the greats.

Bring back the Bill 👮 please as it was absolutely a great police tv drama. Or just a special one off return. My favourite characters were Sgt Callum Stone, inspector Dale Smith and Micky Webb 👍

In all honesty The Bill has had its time. It was to the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, what Z Cars was to the 60s and 70s and Dixon of Dock Green was to the mid to late 50s.
We need a fresh Police procedural for the 2020s. Its an obvious hole in the schedule, which, at the moment at least, neither the BBC ITV or ant other major TV company have a desire to fill, yet there is a potential in grabbing the public's imagination once again and forca success for a new bunch of creatives - writers, actors, directors and producers to make their mark on the genre.
Enough time has now passed for something new not to invite obvious comparisons. Though in terms of TV history, The Bill had a huge impact on the crime genre and certainly as the longest running Police series of all casts a long shadow on the genre.

I think it was really neat that they went full circle with the opening and closing line (across 27 years) being "Let's do it!".
Back in 1983's Woodentop, the line is the first words in the programme, said by young Jimmy Carver, played by Mark Wingett, to motivate himself to begin his day and his police career.
Although the actual context is very different in the final episode, Smithy suggesting a visit to the pub, it really resonates with those of us who've watched from the very start.
      A nice touch.

I’ve read it was the ratings that killed it...
That wouldn’t have happened if writers storyline’s had imagination.
    I believe that’s what killed it... !

Once Bob Cryer, June Ackland, Tony Stamp, George Garfield, Frank Burnside, Dave Quannan, Ted Roach, Polly Page, Derek Conway, Reg Hollis and Jim Carver went the Bill lost it''s soul. They should have stopped it when Bob Cryer left.
Reg Hollis was not given a good send off.

shame it had to end but I'm glad Jack Meadows was made a Supt again no one deserves to lead the officers of Sun hill more than him 1992 to 2010 that's Dam impressive here's to the guvnor of Sun hill always one of my top favourite coppers of the show always liked how his character like Burnside Roach and Cryer were so believable like they really had seen it all and put in the long yards in "the job"

My god that has got been tough to do The fair well bill documentary. I miss the bill really really badly. It was quintessentially British and it showed how police operate . My be some things where probably not quite spot on but to me I think real police have definitely got it really really tough especially with the cut of police men and police women. Since the ending of the tv series the bill.
