    weird spot to put the whistle could of put it next to the NA whistle like 7A

      The 5 chime isn't compatable with the fittings on the steam dome, so instead it was screwed into the boiler where one of the washout plugs can be found

      5 chimes are rarely fitted to NAs these days, if ever minus this one occasion. 8A had one fitted in the 80s but it was stolen (the holes in the tank strap which secures the tanks to the boiler where it was fitted are still there) It was only fitted for the ANZAC Dawn Service which used to use 861 but as it was and still is stored dry in the Menzies Creek museum a servicable loco was used instead) ONSRR ruling can make it difficult to swap warning devices (whistles) on locos willynilly without a lot of paperwork, committees and tests

    U sure its of 163? as 163 has never had its whistle removed. It could be 861 whistle as its the only loco i know that puff has with a five chimer on it

      Yeah it was 163's... they borrowed it while it was having an overhaul I believe.
